Tetsuya Mizuguchi fans, your week has come: Rez HD (800 Microsoft Points) is finally upon us. It seems like it's been an eternity since the game was announced for Live Arcade, but our patience ultimately paid off, and we'll be putting the vibrating functionality to good use come Wednesday. Additionally, Ubisoft's Chessmaster Live (800 Microsoft Points) will also see release this week.
If you haven't already played Rez on the Dreamcast (or PlayStation 2), then you should be pleasantly surprised. You can expect to find an on-rails shooter that incorporates cool music, stylish visuals, and heavy controller vibration to create an unforgettable experience. As the title suggests, Rez HD will be in high-definition, as well as 5.1 surround sound.
Although Chessmaster Live isn't the first chess game to hit XBLA, it does carry the popular series' name, if that sort of thing makes a difference to you. Besides the option to play on a 2D or 3D chess board (exciting, huh?), there are various modes to be found, and as you'd expect, online play.
Dtoiders, are you planning on getting either of these games?
Now that this is finally coming out, where the fuck is my Ikaruga? D:
No Shit. Where is Ikaruga?! I want it so bad.
Rez is not a FPS...
....
God I can't lie. It just makes me ill to think I'd lie about such things. Come on Wednesday...
Oh yeah, Rez. Sure. I mean, why not, right?
It's just a rail shooter and you don't even have to avoid things or anything. You just move the cursor over the enemies and press A.
Can someone tell me what I'm missing?
You're missing everything.
Rez is a must purchase for me this week, but come on, 800 points for Chessmaster? Really?
I already have Spyglass Board Games (w/ Chess) so unless this more EXPENSIVE version offers something the other one doesn't, I'll pass.
Can't wait for REZ though.
I've was playing it all last week. Yes, the xbox version. I still don't get whats so special about it. Ikuruga is far more appealing in my opinion.
Well you are entitled to your opinions. Rez is more about the experience than balls-to-the-wall difficulty or complexity. The fact that you seem too concerned on having to dodge things instead of letting yourself go in the game world shows that it really isn't the game for you.
Doesn't mean it's not an amazing game, though.
And wait, Xbox version? Unless you have exclusive access to the game before everyone else, I think you're playing the wrong game.
Honestly, I'd rather buy a 360 and download the game than pay outrageous sums of money on the interwebs.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's a terrible game, it's obvious that some people worked hard on it and it's obviously a quality game. I just don't understand why people were THIS excited about what seemed to me to be almost an interactive visualization. I figured I must be missing something.

I do want a good chess game but 800 points for a game thats been out over a 1000 years and has so many free online versions. NO.
...what the fuck is Rez anyways?
Technophile, you're very correct in that there's not much to the actual gameplay. It's not bad, but it's nothing special as shooter game mechanics go. The real point of Rez is the total experience, and the gameplay is just a hook to drag you into the experience. I'll admit that after finishing the main mode, I thought it was neat but didn't quite see what all the fuss was about. After a few days, however, I found myself thinking about the game and playing it over-- it really sticks with you after you're done, especially area 5.
There is some challenge to be had in the gameplay, though, and when playing for a high score it's not all that dissimilar to Ikaruga, except that it's easier in terms of not dying all the time.
It's cool if it's not your thing, but that's what people see in it. It's one of those games that really gets inside of people and refuses to leave.
I'm being totally serious.
Yeah, right. :P
I don't want to be repeating repeating repeating.
but seriously, I have the 800 for Rez. I'm getting this on.
I would love to get that game, but I can't :(.
I see. I guess I understand a little better. I played up to area 2 today and it was more difficult but I still was getting a little sleepy playing it.
Oh well, maybe it will be a good game to just zone out on.
