Rez and Ikaruga coming to XBLA, Topher tries to contain himself photo

This is best week ever material if ever there was any. As you may have read earlier tonight in our community blogs, it was announced at this year's pre-Tokyo Game Show press event that Rez is headed for XBLA early next year. Tentatively titled Rez HD, the game will feature updated HD graphics and 5.1 surround sound. Exciting news, no doubt, but there are those of us who are equally (if not more) excited about the story that this news may have overshadowed.

Not only are we being treated Testuya Mizuguchi's classic gaming zen that many of you might have missed on Dreamcast and PS2, but it was also announced that Treasure's Ikaruga is on the way as well, confirming the rumor we had been hearing a few months ago. I will try my best to refrain from using terms like "impossibly awesome" or "incomprehensibly delicious" and refer you to these videos of the original Dreamcast version to give you an idea of what you're in for. Word is, this one is getting a graphical update, too.

If neither of the above titles is enough to make your pants tight, you can instead look forward to some other Live Arcade-bound games like Every Extend Extra Extreme, Omega Five, Hudson's Exit, or Trigger Heart Exelica. You may also want to see your doctor immediately.

I really, really hope Ikaruga has online co-op. I think, I'd rather have that then a graphical update. But, even if it doesn't, I'll still be happy to have these two games on XBLA.

Ikaruga is beyond any and all positive words I could use to describe it.

I can not wait. I hope they do well and it leads to more from the glorious DC back catalogue that so many heathens never played.

YES, OH GOD, YES.

My two FAVORITE games from my FAVORITE system are soon to be available on my second FAVORITE system. Seriously, I gotta be fucking dreaming or something.

One thing though......are they only going to be on the Japanese marketplace? I'm tired and may being misreading something and I hope I am, because I desperately need these games. I NEED THEM.

Online multiplayer for either one of these and I will die on the spot.

Whatever happened with the rumor where Treasure was going to release the final chapter of the Radiant Silvergun/Ikaruga trilogy on Xbox 360? Could this be a prelude?

can somneone explain to me the appeal of rez? I had it when it came out for the ps2 but I never really "got" it I guess. It just seemed you had to mindlessly shoot things until the robot voice started counting down. Yea it looked and sounded cool but the gameplay felt pretty basic.

Ikaruga however! *breakdances* I've been playing this on my wii recently and it is feckin awesome still. God bless treasure - Dynamite Headdy, Gunstar Heroes and Ikaruga. And you know FOR SURE that the un-named 360 shooter title in development by them is the Ikaruga sequel.

Fuck

I've been in apoplexy ever since I read about this on Kotaku. Rez, by itself, I would celebrate. Rez and Ikaruga is pretty much WOW. Add in the other schmups (p.s. it's Omega FIVE, not Omega Drive. Sorry for the correction but I just had to!), Exit (which I'd like to try) and then hit me with a Squenix-TriAce-Microsoft project (Infinite Discovery) and some more trickled info about The Last Remnant (Kotaku spelt that incorrectly so I'll waggle my finger at them too) and Lost Odyssey? I'm meant to be working guys, could you keep announcements of this scale on the down-low until I get home and have my nets installed? I don't want to wake up, trousers-damp, fully spent, with my office companions crowded round me.

Again.

Ummm...not to sound like an ass, but Rez (the original game) isn't from Q Entertainment...it's from Sega. Tetsuya Mizuguchi used to work for IGA (part of Sega), which a while back was merged with Sonic Team. Which of course makes me nervous for Rez HD. Assuming that Tetsuya Mizuguchi has nothing to do with it, i'm afraid to see if the port will be handled by Sonic Team...who as I'm sure you all are aware, don't have the best track record as of recently.

Ahhh, Ikaruga. By far my most favorite top-down shooter. I am absolutely thrilled to get my hands on this again, and looking forward to XBL Co-op/leaderboards.

I have a feeling there is going to be a lot of competition among the Dtoid crew when it comes down to Ikaruga scores. Geometry Wars who?

Rez is quite possibly my favorite game of all time. I was lucky enough to find a copy on eBay for only like 30 bucks a few years ago. I cannot wait until I can play it in gorgeous HD with 5.1 surround. I am one happy lil gamer right now!

I never played Ikaruga but will certainly give it a chance as well just out of thanks for putting Rez on XBLA.
