Only thing I read was that Uncharted 3 was better than Gears of War 3 (SCORES ARE LIKE TOTALLY THE BEST WAY OF COMPARING GAMES RIGHT!?).
In all seriousness I hope they make a trilogy box or something so I can pick it up for a nice price.
If Uncharted ever made any effort to make its environments FEEL different it would be one thing. Nothing I've seen in Uncharted thus far has managed to top the temple under Saint Francis's Folly in Tomb Raider: Anniversary. There, each wing of the temple was devoted to a different god or legend and had appropriately themed traps that all felt fresh. Swords of Damocles raining from the ceiling, water puzzles in Poseidon, Atlas's globe chasing you a la Indiana Jones. But in Uncharted, there are no traps whatsoever and rarely is anything new introduced. And the puzzles are so easy as to insult my intelligence.
Only two things really stand out in my memory from Uncharted 2: the helicopter roof chase and the fight during the blizzard. Because that was the only time that the game threw me a curveball, and the rest of the game seemed to just be window dressing to disguise the same gameplay being repeated over and over. The shifting of the train changed little for me despite how much I heard reviewers rave about it, and the fight in the back of trucks was just a cleverly disguised chest-high wall sequence. I realize on some level that any element of a game is smoke and mirrors, but it always felt so obvious in Uncharted.
What really gets to me about Uncharted (at least the singleplayer anyway) is how much it seems to be a game designed specifically for game reviewers and not necessarily the general public. Objectively, everything is great about the game, and for those who have long forgot what it's like to have fun playing a game, the graphics, inoffensive gameplay, and easy-to-get-by puzzles probably seems like an easy 10. But subjectively, little of it is challenging, inventive, varied, memorable, or even very good. Uncharted 2 flowed well but it was a B shooter at best and the platforming just seemed like it was wasting my time. It only stayed in my mind for a few days after playing and was quickly forgotten. But I guess a few days is enough to write a review.
I could be wrong, but doesn't Skyrim release the week after Uncharted 3? On the same day as MW3?
Stop legitimizing that waste of oxygen.
Perhaps that is expected,
I kind of agree, actually.
But, maybe that's because I don't like movies enough to understand on a personal level the vibe of the series.
Although, it has split screen co op, which is always a big plus for me.
@BomberJacket: I'd accuse you of just not liking basic game design, but then against all logic you liked a Tomb Raider game, and not the old ones when the idea was fresh and the simplistic design was forgivable, but one of the new ones that nobody remembers now. Would Eidos have to reinvent the series every few years if their new games were very interesting? I like the direction the new one is taking, and I hope it succeeds, but until then there is no Tomb Raider game that can compete on equal footing with an Uncharted game. All games have repetitive gameplay when you get down to it. What matters is wether a game remains fun to play until completion, and continues to impress throughout. Uncharted 2 was designed to be a action-adventure joyride, and a lack of excessive complexity lends itself to that goal. I don't understand what it is about Uncharted 2 that rubbed you the wrong way, given that all the complaints you levied at it all games of this genre perpetrate, but this one went out of it's way to do it in a more eventful, eye-catching manner. So would you prefer that they didn't take that effort and just had a series of bland hallways with cheap falls and traps, just so it wouldn't waste time being awesome?
I can't help but notice that the review is nearly devoid of any details on how it actually plays. I'm sure it's great, but the review presents the game more like it's an interactive movie.
I just find it funny how people are angry that uncharted actually has hollywood like qualities. Its pacing its superb. I've never played a game that flows the way uncharted does.
@redeemer, qtes in uncharted? Have you even played it?
And I'm sure JimmyX would love the shit out of the game if it was on Xbox ....In they end they're both video games, the consoles shouldn't matter; no matter how mutated your hands are for the controllers. >.< aggressive Fanboyism=DerpDerp.
I understand why you might think uncharted as an interactive movie, because in a way it is. But the thing is it actually doesn't feel like that at all. The way they implemented the cutscenes and the gameplay together felt so seamless.
If you disagree with him, say so. And then, if he's still being annoying, ignore him.
I think we can agree that uc3 is a good game without debasing someone for thinking differently.
People need to chill on the review scores. If you like Uncharted-type games, it's apparent you're going to love this. If you like Gears-type games, you'll probably like Gears 3. Bit.Trip Complete got a 10/10 as well - probably because it's the best rhythm game ever made - but not many people like rhythm games. That does not mean that it doesn't deserve 10/10. Comparing Uncharted to Gears to Kirby to Bit.Trip is comparing apples to oranges to pineapples to grapefruits.
So there.
Praise the Lord.
Well it looks like I'll have to pick up the first Uncharted again, figure out how to shoot-then-punch a lot better than I was so that I can actually GET somewhere in that game.
So that I can beat it and get Uncharted 2.
So I can beat Uncharted 2 and GET THIS GAME! WOOO!
I loved Uncharted 2 so much (SO MUCH!), hence my excitement for Uncharted 3. That's not to say that I am not also excited for other incredible-looking games this year, like the new Zelda and Skyrim. I can't wait to play those as well! :D
Good point! I don't have a 3D TV, but would have loved to try out (and comment on) the 3D feature in the game. Hopefully we will get to focus more on that in future reviews. Thanks for the input! :)
