Well, there might also be "fans" like me, who would like to get into the series, having only been in the non-interactive fringe of it. I doubt there's many in that boat, though, but still. Regardless, I'mma wait for this to get 'round $20 to consider it (heck, got God of War 1+2 for $10, back on Black Friday).
Wait, all three of these were already on 360 right? Like, long before this? So does that mean not a single one of these is atually a HD upgrade but rather a package of three already HD games?
Anniversary is rather good, imo. Legend is rather bad. Underworld was brilliant, just too short:(

i picked up few months ago Tomb Raider Ultimate Collection for PC - all TR games released to this day and all expansions for 10$. they want me to pay 40$ for inferior versions of the titles that even on 360 combined cost less.

Isn't Anniversary itself an updated version of the original Tomb Raider? So that would make this... an update of an update?

lol, aside from the fact that both main characters are looking for artifacts and are in 3rd person there's nothing simillar.
Uncharted is basically Sony's copy of Gears of War, but with completely scripted corridor campaign(Call of Duty style). there's no puzzles and all the things that made TR games so good - it's straight up shooter and that's it. not to mention Underworld was still a much better game than both Uncharted titles - i will take those huge puzzles over another 3rd person CoD from Naughty Dog anyday.

Ugggh. I have Tomb raider legend for the PS2. Never even got past the 4/5th level it's so boring and archaic. I still maintain that the only good PS1 worth having were crash bandicoot/spyron (that's just me though)
If you've never played a Tomb Raider game, and you've wanted to see why Tomb Raider is to 3D exploration adventure games what Black Sabbath is to metal, it is probably fair to say this is probably the one to start with.
This collection actually started with the 360 versions (you can tell by some of the water in Peru in Legend and Anniversary) and improved upon the graphics further, especially in Anniversary. As Jim said, the gameplay was left as-is, though there is a section of Anniversary's Egypt with some noticeable differences. (At least if you remember the smash door traps, you'll notice ;) It is, after all, a collection of some classic Tomb Raider titles that gave the series its second wind, not a totally redone Dude Raider clone.
Plus each game has a full set of trophies per title, as opposed to a full set of trophies across each game. Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection being another Collection-style title I have and all games share the same trophy "pool". Also there are some pretty neat Trophy references in TRT. Chain of Command episode 2 reference? :awwwyeahhh:

The one thing I'm STILL waiting to hear from a review is whether the Trilogy versions of Legend and Anniversary look better than the 360 versions. I seem to recall an interview with a Crystal Dynamics guy saying they would. I can't be the only person wondering whether I should ditch my three 360 discs and replace them with one PS3 disc.
Does this collection have the DLC for Underworld on it already? If I was going to re-purchase Underworld for any reason (maybe for the PS3 Home theme and gear to convince me to go back there sooner than anticipated. In addition to that,Trophies),I'd need to know that the version of Underworld on the disc is the most up-to-date version out there. What else would be the point of an updated re-release if it doesn't have all of the post-release content added in?
I love how pretty much every article on this collection gets stuff wrong. All three games were in "HD" on the Xbox, and certainly on the PC, long before this collection came out.

All three of these were pretty damn fun, in my opinion. Any fan of adventure games should grab this up.
I don't know if I'll buy this but it's on the rental list for sure. I'll save me dough for the new Tomb Raider starring Natalie Drake.

I honestly loved Anniversary. It's sluggish compared to Prince, definitely, but it was a solid and well paced game.
Underworld made me want to stomp on children. That game sucked hardcore.
Granted, I see where you're going. When you can get one of these for $15 and it is essentially the same thing, why spend the money?

Why does everyone compare Tomb Raider to Uncharted? Sure they both involve treasure hunting, but they are very different games/series.
Uncharted is nice and all, but it has way too much shooting for me. The puzzles and climbing in Tomb Raider are miles ahead.

Rofl. No. These games are much better than modern shitty do everything for you QTE platformers. Especially Anniversary. Unless you want to compare it to the PoP games that came out BEFORE these games.

Don't hate on Croft. She's the thinking man's Prince/Drake. Hope the umpteenth reboot fixes the gun play. Other than that, Underworld was perfect.

The "water snake" was indeed bullshit. The biker/jungle level in Underworld was bullshit. Parts of the Egyptian level in Anniversary was bullshit. But I adore the rets of 'em. I think it's just law that every Tomb Raider game has to have one ten minute section that takes you to breaking point.

I'm playing this fine collection of games right now, i like all of them especially Underworld is a gem, but i feel i'm ready for the potientally amazing reboot now! Bring it Lara, bring the pain!
I wanted to get back on this. I was a wuss back then - the moment I read the word "Tomb" I went OHMYGODHORRORDONOTWANT.
Jim you are aware that both Legend and Anniversary both were released on the Xbox 360 and so the supposed "upgrade" that you are seeing is probably just a port of the 360 version? It just seems weird (for you) since you harped on the graphics in comparison to what? The Ps2 and original Xbox versions? Anyway your usually spot on in your reviews especially so it's odd. Either I am misunderstanding or you made an oversight either way, cheers mate!

What I do in situations like this is I weigh the games and/or DLC's in the collection against the one I already have. If the "must have" factor of those things are higher then the price of all the parts if I were to purchases them separately (usually, specially the ones that include DLC's make the entire package cheaper then if you were to buy it all in pieces) I'll take the already owned game and trade it in for whatever I can get towards the collection, this way, at best, I might only really be paying for the games/DLC's I don't have, which is usually lower then if I were to nab them individually.
I just realized that all of that might make no sense : /

I don't have Gears 2 or any of the DLC's but the "must-have" factor is high enough to make me consider it a fair trade off. With Gears 2 being around $20 right now itself and god knows what the DLC's are sitting at right now each, getting maybe even $7 off (from trading in the first gears) the $30 triple pack makes whole thing come out to be cheaper at around $23 then if I were to say screw it and just buy them separate. It might come off as a matter of chump change in the end but every little bit counts right now.

Anni and Legend were almost UNPLAYABLE on the 360 due to some horrible framerates and low low res gameplay. Some of the geometry is even improved on the PC version as that version was almost merely a port for Legend and they added somethings to Anni as well as eliminated some bugs for this release of Underworld. These are all stellar games at their best. The combat is average the puzzles ARE WAY WAY above Uncharted level.
They are some of the best in the business and don't let anyone else tell you know. Anniversary is a reason enough to own this collection with its higher res audio and great port. Do remember that all these releases now have better audio than even the PC versions! I'd say wait until it hits 20 or 30 and then buy. Jim is doing this an injustice in parts.
