Now as long as NOA has released Xenoblade and Last Story on the Wii by the time I have finished SS, them everything will be mostly forgiven (never forgotten but forgiven for now). Else it will be time to mod my Wii, Import the games and be damned if I buy another Nintendo product through the next generation (WiiU/3DS).
You think you're the only one who has gamed with a regular gamepad his whole life? I have as well. And while some of the lesser third-party Wii games have done a poor job of implementing the motion control, every first-party Nintendo game does it superbly and this is obviously the best execution yet.
Every single motion control complaint (outside of lolwaggle trolling) comes down to "it's too much work" or something about not wanting to look stupid. The only Wii games I've played that might induce arm fatigue would be something like Mario Party.
I think it's really depressing that you're going to pass on this game (which you say you want to play just because you're so shortsighted and don't want to try a new type of control style that you MIGHT actually find fun. You also mention the Wii's "casual" appeal, which is indefensible. That is purely an asshat point of view and I hope you enjoy being miserable.
Probably because he's too busy being a hardcore gamer.
Considering the SNES has the best library of games ever, and they're still more fun to play than most of what comes out these days, I don't really know what you're saying here... Also, I can't help but look at new "old" games like Cave Story and Mega Man 9 and think about how incredibly popular they are.
Seriously, man. That's like ask to do a port of Spirit Tracks to the PSP. The game was made to be played with Motion Control. If you don't like, DON'T PLAY IT.
Or play the terrible HD port of NMH on the PS3.

"I like how Commander x202x clearly didn't bother to read a single word of this review.
Probably because he's too busy being a hardcore gamer."
??? What the hell are you talking about. I read the review. What does that have to do with me disliking the motion controls?? I'm sure it will be a great game, I didn't say anything about Skyward Sword! Being a more serious gamer does not make me some CoD blind "Hard Core" Gamer. The Wii is, infact geared toward the crowd who are not involved in games 4 - 8 hours a day. Thats how it sold so well, because every day "non gamers" picked it up and found that the games we're relatively easy to play.
Have you ever thought about showing respect for the hard work and passion of all the people that made this game possible. Do you know that the cosmos doesn't revolve around you and your every desire?
Gamers should put value in what the developers had in mind and give it a fair shake. Funny how you haven't played the game yet, but you're so willing to bitch about what it ISN'T, as opposed to what it actually IS.
Adapt to the game. Don't expect the game to adapt to you. Apply this philosophy in many areas of life and you'll be happier and much wiser.
Anyway, I can't wait to try this out. I will try not to cry all over myself as I flick my controller around in my lap like I'm jerking off.
"do you know that the cosmos doesn't revolve around you and your every desire"
Chill out breh. I said I don't care. Just speaking for others here - as I said above, arrogant people like you helped facilitate the Nintendo fanboy mentality so many people loath.
Why wouldn't you want people to play Zelda more? Does it make you hard knowing only the elite motion control clan is allowed to play your game?
Basically, Tristrix's comment.

Look... I've used motion controls, from the Wii to Kinect, and I just do not like them. I would much rather focus on the game, then the gestures I have to use just to play the game. Its seems that it someone doesn't agree with you, they are obviously inferior to you. See how far that attitude will get you in life.
I'm incredibly excited for it, as Zelda is my favorite series, and I've already pre-ordered the gold wii-mote bundle. Unfortunately, I live in South America, so I'll have to wait a month or so after the release date, as the shipping takes fucking forever. Still, can't complain.
I think the series has finally found it's definitive 3D art style. I'd love to see them try new things, sure, but it just fits the tone of the series too well. Also, yay for a new interesting villain and a more present Zelda (though Spirit Tracks also did well with it's Zelda).
Anyway, I digress. Thanks for the review, Jonathan!
Actually, touch based games have been ported to the PSP with success - Knights in the Nightmare, Angry Birds, etc.
TLDR apparently choice is a bad thing.
BrainWasherAttendent is a real person.
Thanks for this amazing review, Holmes! It tells me everything I wanted to know and more. I'm also glad to hear the motion controls work. I had a really lackluster experience at the PAX demo, but it seems that may have been a result of the setting.
Great review though you certainly sold it to me.
Sure would be nice if people would stop telling me I can't have a preference, though.
I still say it's terribly depressing that the motion controls are what's keeping you from experiencing this game. You're only depriving yourself of an amazing gaming experience due to a shallow and narrow-minded stance that gaming must only involve mashing buttons.
Also, clever how you failed to comment on the fact that your overall refusal to buy a Wii because of the "casual" appeal. Because you know I'm right.
You are the scum of the Earth for wanting to enjoy this game. Controls are the only thing that matters - you can't enjoy the wonderful story, characters, music, settings and mechanics unless you play it the exact same way I want you to.
How was my mattroid impression? (lol)
I think the claim that Nintendo could have somehow implemented a classic control scheme is extremely presumptuous. It also ignores the fact that Nintendo designed this game from the ground up to be a motion-based game. The way Nintendo wants us to play the game is every bit a part of the product as the art direction or music. They want gamers to experience the game with the MotionPlus. They don't care about tacking on backwards-compatibility for the few naysayers, and they shouldn't.
I don't care how many other people play the game. If they want to miss out on a game for stupid reasons, it's their loss. Zelda is 25 years old. Skyward Sword isn't about trying to bring in new fans, it's about celebrating the anniversary and the legacy. I'm not concerned at all about the game somehow not selling well. This isn't a Suda51 game or some other niche and quirky Japanese title. It's Zelda. It will sell all of the copies.
I completely agree with the idea that those against motion controls are out and out fools.
You want holodeck gaming? You want it to evolve? This is where it begins.
THIS is the promise of motion controls realised, and anyone who doesn't see it as a step up is deluded.
I am VERY happy that Nintendo stuck to their guns and didn't end up with a half-hearted game, that would have been a real blow to the Wii and the Zelda franchise. The combat was like the weakest aspect of the series, and the best candidate for innovation.
For the record, I bought the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess and loved it. The half-hearted Wii version has been nothing but a thorn in Nintendo's side to be honest, especially considering it opened the system up to homebrew and had a gamebreaking bug. I'm not sure the very high sales were even really worth that...
Also annoying who wants voice acting is an utter moron, SHOULD TINGLE SPEAK? NO.
Shooting a bow and arrow in Resort is extremely fun. You aim with your outstretched arm and pull back with the other, like a real bow and arrow. I've spent probably 50 hours just playing the archery mini-game in Resort with friends, and all you do is shoot a bullseye. Imagine that level of control and satisfaction in the context of a full Zelda game, where you're shooting enemies in combat, or doing archery mini-games for hearts and larger quivers?
The same goes for Swordfighting in Resort. It's extremely, extremely fun. I'm talking about an on-rails game in Resort where your character walks automatically and all you do is the 1:1 sword swings. I've probably played it almost 50 hours as well. Striking and blocking feels extremely good and the motion + controls are light years ahead of the normal Wii controls here. Now, imagine that swordfighting in the context of a full Zelda game, against enemies who block vigorously. Also, now add a shield to the mix, and a counter block. Also, add full movement and dodges which weren't in Resort at all. Is it starting to sink in how amazing this game is?
The list continues. Skydiving is in Resort, and you do that in Zelda. Bowling has been obsessed about constantly by Wii Sports fans, and that's how you roll bombs in this game. Basketball is a fun Resort game, and that's how you do the overhead toss for bombs. You can fly a plane around in Resort, and that's how you control the Beetle item.
Seriously, this game is not made for regular controls.
