Tomorrow better be Sunday, fuck Saturday.
"I don't see what the big deal around OoT is. It's pretty much the same as every 3D Legend of Zelda. But maybe it's a nostalgia thing, I mean it was made when I was 2 years old."
What's the big deal about the original Super Mario Bros. I mean, it's the most generic of the Mario Bros series, I don't get what the big deal is.
The reason Ocarina of Time is considered one of the greatest games of all time is because it changed the way people look at video games. There was nothing like it that was produced before its existence.
The original Super Mario Bros isn't the most generic Mario Bros game to exist because there was nothing like it before it was created, and every other Mario Bros. game built off of the formula the the original established. YOU may not see anything special about OoT, but anyone who was around when the game first came out can recognize that every single 3D Zelda game released since has built upon the formula that OoT established.
Hey, I understand that it's pretty revolutionary but it's annoying that you really can't see that since every LoZ is now a rehash of OoT. Surely hasn't OoT aged pretty badly since Ninten refuse to innovated the series?
And Majoras Mask remake for Wii-U! Called it first!!
The rehash argument is a fair one, but its an argument that leads nowhere. Regardless of the fact that the gameplay has remained largely the same, the games are largely praised and loved by the people who play them. Zelda fans love the Zelda games, I don't fault a developer who makes games that the fans of those games want to play. There was a time in the industry where reaching a wider audience wasnt really an issue.
Also, the CoD games are rehashes. The Zelda games, for the most part, have been well different enough to not fall too deep into that category. I think its just vogue to call Zelda games rehashes, there are dozens of examples of far more egregious rehashing in the industry. There has only been 3 console Zelda games since OoT. There has been a new CoD every year for going on 5 years now....
Supposedly the iron boots are easier to equip (can be hot-swapped on the bottom screen), and the water levels in the Temple are easier to read. In terms of the actual straight design, I'm not sure, as I haven't seen details.
Yeah, I'm going to stop posting any more comments in this thread. I've posted more than anyone else and am starting too sound like a troll. All I meant to say was that it's hard for gamers of my generation to understand the love OoT gets. I didn't mean to get into a big debate about the impact that the game had.
in b4 mobs of angry nintendrones telling me why I'm wrong and such a hater.
WiiU WiiU WiiU! It's the terminology police! A thing doesn't stop being a "masterpiece" because of time. Masterpieces are, by definition, timeless.
I'm just yanking your chain. I think the only thing people want to say is that playing that game for the first time (at its release) was completely mind-blowing. It's easy to take for granted now, but back then it was the first game to do what it did.
I think we can still all be friends! Yay!
Because that's all Nintendo does between lame gimmicks now, and its fans don't mind.
(I'm so sorry everyone, don't hate me).
Simple words... FUCK THE OWL!
I getting that kind of rating from Jim is an accomplishment, Nintendo.
Actually I was really expecting a 10/10
"If you're a stylus-only 3DS player, you'll find the lower screen's inventory more fiddly to navigate"
This is why I'm happy I have a finger stylus, wrap that thing around my figure and I never have to worry about needing to mess with going back and forth like that. Sure, it gets uncomfortable at times, but its far less annoying then constantly searching for the pen stylus I've somehow wiggled in between the couch cushions while I play.
Maybe I'll pick it up in 2 years when the 3DS Lite is out.
no that's not enough. Boss rush and master quest is recycled content, they aren't doing you any favors by including them.
as for the graphics, I'm sorry, but that isn't enough to justify rebuying a game for the price of an all new game created from scratch. There are already too many rehashes/remakes/ports on the 3DS, Nintendo of all people doesn't need to be the worst perpetrator. Just like how developers would lazily port old games to the wii because they had "enhanced motion controls!!!" no the same thing is going to happen with the 3DS and "the enhanced 3D graphics!!!"
I actually wrote a blog post about how I think that old games get more credit today than they deserve just because they were "the originals". So what if OoT laid the basis for all future Zelda games and many adventure games that followed? That doesn't particularly add merit to the game, it just gives it "cred". Back then, OoT may have gotten a perfect 10, but it's dated and if it were to be reviewed right now, today, it would have to be held to a different standard.
Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon HeartGold got a TON of extra content when they were remade, Kirby Super Star Ultra got a TON of extra content when it was remade, so I find it pretty disappointing that Nintendo would be so lazy with arguably their most popular game ever made. I think the fact that they handed it to a third party developer in the first place shows they didn't particularity care about the project, and only made it so the 3DS would have something that's guaranteed to sell.
