My friend has deleted it to save space after we played it for a bit, don't blame him to be honest. Is the XBLA/PSN version the same level design? Or should I resume excitement?
I think I've finished Sonic 3 and Knuckles at least once a year when there's a gaming lull <3
What are you whining about? This has nothing to do with the console versions. You think somehow this affects the console reviews? I don't get what you're complaining about.
I just hope his legs are longer in HD, as well as his eye's being greener.
This won't affect what you call the "superior" console version. I anticipate getting a console code some time this weekend and it shall be judged entirely on its own merits.
I'll just point out here that anyone who didn't find the original Sonic games to be at least somewhat enjoyable is a souless monster.
I found an easy way o demo it, just follow these steps!*
Step 1) Tell someone to try this great new free app on their iPhone (it can be any free app)
Step 2) Make them go out of the room
Step 3) Purchase the game on their iPhone, it won't ask for a password this time
Step 4) Free Demo
*Disclaimer: Don't do this.
Now, if you'll excuse me I'm going to burn down a rain-forest and make billions.
And their game reviews aren't much better.
Anyway, 7/10 suggests "get it if you're a sonic fan"
I've played this game up to Lost Labyrinth Zone act 2. I don't want to play anymore since I want to save the experience for the PS3 version. I haven't played the levels that Jim says are troubling yet, save for LLZ Act 1, which isn't all that bad.
But this game does suffer from some bad level design. It's a shame, because the level designs are great except for any of the parts that involve bottomless pits and homing attack chains. It's just stupid level design, slapping you in the face when you fail to do something right. They should put you at the lower part of the level and make you work your way back up. Play classic Sonic and you'll notice almost no bottomless pits. This game has way too many for what it's trying to imitate.
They picked some bad levels to imitate though. Metropolis and Labyrinth zone? Really? Those levels sucked. Why not Ice Cap Zone and Hydrocity Zone or Chemical Plan Zone? So many good levels and they picked two of the most difficult and awful ones in Sonic history. They may have improved on them in some aspects but still
The games were decent and somewhat fun in my eyes. I recently downloaded Sonic 2 on XBLA and it's really not that much fun anymore. It's decent, but not as good as I remembered it, which was only as a pretty good game to begin with.
Jim, how many episodes is this game supposed to be? Cause I would be slightly interested in buying it for the 360 if it's 4 acts. But I'm not paying 75 to have the entire (probably 4 hour) game. That would just be a rip off. Even Mario couldn't get away with that.
Ok, maybe he could......
I like my iPhone, but come on. Any game with a virtual joystick are ruined.
Games like Mirros Edge are hot, though.
You have to tilt left, and right, and of course there are segments in the game that call for precise platforming, and tapping on the screen randomly makes sonic either jump, or spin dash, I mean what the fuck? If this game strictly had these tilt controls, I'd give it a generous but unplayable 4. As it stands, a 7 is just about the right score for the ipod version atleast.
As for people slating Sonic 1, it doesn't stand up well compared to the early sequels, but at the time it was one of the better platformers around, it introduced an iconic character and timeless music. It was a BIG, successful, highly regarded title.
4 seems a bit of retro fan service so I'm thankful, and I'm not even that much of a fan.
Laters
You can choose any level after you complete the very first level, but in order to fight the boss for a certain zone you have to have completed each of the three acts of that zone.

I look forward to the review, too. Regardless, from what I've already heard, I'm sure I will love this game. Sonic is finally back, baby!
