I bought it on sale (23.99) and must say that I'm impressed. Tripwire is a small studio (20 guys more or less) and they did a great work. RO2 is realistic but very rewarding and the bugs can't take that away. It's a must buy if you are into PC multiplayer FPS's.
But, alas, it seems to be another WWII game that's a freakin' shooter. I want something more realistic, for exemple a survival game in occupied France, where you are not armed but trying to choose what's best between denouncing your jew friend or protecting the safety of your family. I want to feel real tension, real attention to the characters.
I want to shout VIDEOGAEMS! Instead of whispering "that's so cliché"....
At the same time it is really buggy. As he said the upgrade system/stats are completely broken which is a problem in a game of this type. It also seems to randomly crash after matches. Sometimes I'll play for a few hours and then when I play later I crash after playing one round.
Tripwire does seem to be on top of it though so I'm not too worried.
How exactly does the game plays out?
Like TF2, Counter-Strike or COD? Or realistic? If you get shot in the arm, can you shoot again? How realistic the game is? Details, we need details people.
It runs well enough for me and I love every minute of it though. Great to see a review on Dtoid for it!
if the bugs are fixed I would give the game a 9.5 as it is one of the best multiplayer shooters out there except the bugs I say one of the best as comparing this directly to battlefield would be a bit unfair as they are different kind of games. for now I would give it a 7 as it is far to buggy.
It's not like COD but it's not as realistic as ARMA.
If you get shot with a pistol/smg on a non lethal area of the body you have a few seconds to bandage yourself before you bleed to death (you have 2 bandages)
If you get shot by a bolt action rifle you'll probably die instantaneously (unless it's a shot on the leg or something like that)
There's no crosshair and you get tired when you run. There's also a morale system. When supressed or under artillery fire the screen will turn black and white and your character will be out of breath.
The scopes are all modelled in 3d.
The tank interiors are in 3d too.
Tanks can be crewed by the AI except for the commander position.
Again this is the type of game where you will die in one shot, you can bandage leg wounds but that's about it. Ballistics are very realistic, you must lead shots, aim high (or use the built in meter system, personally I prefer just aiming high) to achieve success in hitting your target. The gun play is definitely more on the side of simulation than arcade that's for sure. While not 100% military sim, it's definitely not going to feel like Call of Duty in any regard, I can promise you that :D
Haven't tried the MP yet, but I had some fun in the original RO. It's a worthy purchase if you want something a bit different.
The gameplay completely revolves around realism, and one mode even drastically limits respawns to twice a round (or less). The accuracy of every weapon is incredibly high, though... I'm not sure if WW2 had so many sharpshooters with automatic weapons. Once you realize the importance of finding a safe location, you'll be picking people off like a pro or tactfully zigging between rubble toward your objective.
@Lenigod - It's absolutely more fun to me than any Gears game, despite any glitches.
not huge owns, but the are working on fixing the bugs
8 -- Great (8s are impressive efforts with a few noticeable problems holding them back. Won't astound everyone, but is worth your time and cash.)
Considering TWI developed this, it's beyond impressive, and if you're into realistic war shooters that doing hold your hand, then it's definitely worth the time and cash, regardless of the glitches.
It seemed you skimped out on this review
