Last I read PC version was coming Q3 2010 and the iphone/pad version should be out by the end of the year.
As for the game, I bit and bought the DS version (was hoping the iphone version would be out around the same time) and oh god the compressed audio is terrible and there is some lag between turns. Having it on the go is nice but not an extra $15 nice IMO.
I'm still gonna wait for the iPhone version, since it was the only one to wind up with two expansions.
Fun fact, I did marketting/research for Puzzle Quest: Galactrix, so technically, I helped influence PQ2. YOU'RE WELCOME! :D
Buying this as soon as I get home!
They've gutted it. They removed every single thing that made the original fun except the basic puzzle game. Equipment doesn't do jack shit now, just the odd stat buff. There's no way to learn any spells beyond your character's base spells. There's no story at all. There's no capturing creatures, forging items, companions, capturing cities, training mounts, customization of spell set, tweaking of passive abilities to complement that spell set, or indeed anything but mindless, tedious, boring dungeon crawling.
They've completely removed everything worthwhile about the original. This is absolutely the worst game they've made. I even liked Puzzle Chronicles better than this.
But there are ways to learn spells beyond your skill set, there are is spell set customization, and there are equipment upgrades, in fact the new item system is much better than the old one. The only thing this game lacks is the over world stuff from the first game which would not make sense in a dungeon crawler. They just gave the game some focus this time around.
Buddy Waters, I think you're missing some of the features, dude. When you're at the map/dungeon part, hit LB and you can access the menu to equip inventory and stuff. Right next to inventory on the mini-menu is the spellbook for choosing your magic. My mage has like 20 spells to learn, up to level 50.
Items also seem WAYYYYYYYYY more important than in the first one. The addition of the action gems adds a ton of strategy, and using them in exchange for direct attacks is an awesome feature. Some items give you more mana, some heal you, some give other bonuses.
Also, the item crafting has been expanded, as you need to find different pieces from defeated enemies in order to upgrade and stuff. You're just not looking hard enough to find the stuff you're bitching about.
The minigames area actually important, instead of tedious. The dungeons are fun to explore! This game implements even more RPG staples than the first two. Buy it now, so I can kick your ass on XBLA.
Yeah, I'm sure I'll pick this up eventually. (Though I have great patience for deals. See you at 800 MS Points, PQ2! :P )
Can't wait to pick this up and enjoy the bloody tits off this thing.
@Shoop- Should be late 2010 I think
Ill miss the big map though, so many places left to explore there yet..
The article mentions that most of the perceived cheating seems to have been fixed. Having played about 2/3 through the game, I can say that this is more-or-less accurate. There are times when I start to wonder, but there are also times when the "cheating" seems to work a bit in my favor as well. I'm not ready to call it 100% perfect, but I'm happy to call it 100% acceptable.
