I'd be all over this game if I had a PS3. =[
I know right? That's why I have all 3 consoles. Final Fantasy XIII and God of War 3 Ultimate Edition this month *already finished GOWIII, I'm on the last boss in FFXIII, damn Orphan boss*, Splinter Cell for Xbox 360 and SSFIV for PS3 next month, and 3DDGH for PS3 and SMG2 for Wii on May*
It is not fun.
I can't pitch, get lots of "balls" and I can't bat, I get lots of "strikes". I just can't tell if a ball is going to be in the little rectangle or not and timing power meter things always fuck up my day.
I am English, so it's not something I've been subjected to....
But I play it because it looks pretty, and quite enjoy it.

SayWord is going to fit in well here.
@SexChoc: I used to think baseball was insufferable, but after playing this game enough, I started to really enjoy the game as a sport more and more, and you begin to understand the strategy and subtlety a lot better as well. Also, stop using power swing, turn off the PCI and strike zone indicator (especially if you have variable strike zones since it doesn't matter anyway) so you have less visual clutter and can react naturally. And remember, good baseball players get hits on 3 out of every 10 at bats, so you are going to be humbled every now and then.
And jesus, front page posters.
PCI? Variable strike zones? - Colour me confused, you've got to hit the pitches that are in the rectangle right? And ignore the ones outside?
I tend to play the MLB demo every year, but I'm always piss weak at it.
Pitching fucks me up most, it's supposed to be super controlled intending to throw strikes / balls, but i just hit maybe 1 out of 5 of my little lines on the power meter (release points?) and most of my pitches are miles away from the rectangle.
I tend to descend into throwing fastballs at the batters head a lot of the time.
Despite all of this, and not really enjoying the gameplay, not because it's bad, because I'm bad at it, i still play this demo loads.
I don't even care about winning i just want to see the pretties.
I also try to do the whole jump-catch thing too much and miss so many catches just to try to make it look cool.
I want a cricket game made by exactly the same team, that would be amazing.
Ideally yes, but that isn't always true. I mention those basically because they are visual clutter, and it is SOOOOO much easier to land hits when you can react naturally without shit in your way. And the strike zone I turn off because umpires cadence on strike zones will vary from ump to ump, just like in real life...I had a HORRIBLE game my first run through when with Zambrano I would expertly place pitches just on the inside of the strike zone, only for it to be called a fucking ball. That went the other way too, when what was outside was called a strike when I'm up to bat. The strike zone is great as a visual aide ONLY if you turned off the variable strike zones (in the options somewhere), otherwise it is pretty much pointless and just gets in the way.
My ultimate point was to clear up the visual clutter by turning off the PCI indicator (that orange thing which I find pretty useless) and the strike zones and just bat naturally without shit obstructing it. When I first turned them shits off, I improved dramatically.
Pick a part of the plate, and do NOT swing unless the ball is in the area you're concentrating on. You'll let some strikes go by, but its alot less frustrating than swinging at every single pitch (which I was [and am] doing) and makes the pitcher throw more. For example, I'm looking for a pitch low. I will let the high, outside, inside go by until I get a low one.
Then there's the timing of the swing. Fuck it if I ever time my swing right. Ugh.
