... half the fun of this game is calling out enemy positions and discussing squad strategies though!
Simple as that, you whiney bitches.
Which is great for those hardcore because they'll have a tight knit community, decent players, and a reall Cheers "Everybody knows your name," type of experience. But it's not so great for sales or for just generally expanding the community.
I predict it'll be a word of mouth type thing. The community, as I said, will be only the hardcore and they'll probably get their face-to-face buddies to join in but I doubt anyone who doesn't personally know anyone into MAG will be particularly enthralled if it really takes as long as the Beta people claimed to get it. Especially because this is the Internet we're talking about here. Everything is fast here. If you can't hop in and start enjoying yourself within the first 30 minutes to an hour it's kind of lost on people.
All that said I'd buy it just to play with Sexualchocolate and Elsa.
Mr. Sterling is right. The game is good. It does not lag anymore than any other online game. I personally was in the beta(s) for a long time and rarely noticed any lag.
All of you wannabe pseudo-intellects need to quit speculating. A lot of people here played the god damn beta, it isn't a lag-fest. It is an awesome game... You're more than likely just butt-hurt because you have an XBOX and cannot play it, so you're searching for something to bitch about. Give it up...
Disclosure: No, I'm not buying it. Too many other things to do and I usually do all of my shooters on PC... but MAG is awesome.
It'll suck when only one person has a headset, though.
Mouse and Keyboard compatability!!!!!!!!!!!!
Issue is, all my friends either disagree or straight-up do not have PS3s. I want to buy this game, but I think I will hold off -- I don't get enjoyment rolling without my friends in multiplayer FPS.
Damn... Now I might not buy it. Controls are my #1 necessity. If weapon scrolling is R2 what the hell is fire, R1?
Games need to start allowing us to customize controls already. It's 2010.
It is not as loose as Killzone 2. You aim where you want to instead of floating past it.
I'm glad that I'm not alone in that comparison. Nice review Jimmles
What you should expect: massive battles with tactics and communication requirements not seen in other games. Teamwork instead of kill-whoring.
What you should not expect: CoD-style anything, insta-god-level winningness, etc.
Give the game some time. It took me a good week or so to fully grasp everything in the early betas where everyone was struggling, but once I got in, I haven't been out. It just gets better as you meet more people, learn more tactics, and polish your strategies and skills.
The problem is.....PSN users as a whole really don't use microphones....either they don't have one.....don't bother.....or just don't care.
This was a HUGE problem in the beta as most people just ran around doing whatever trying to increase their K/D ratio rather than complete the objectives or try to win the game.
I think that alot of people were also disappointed to discover that despite the 256 Player Claims...it breaks down to 8 player squads......
Not Zipper's best IMO....but then again I was probably spoiled by the polish playability and excellence of SOCOM & SOCOM 2.....
I expect this to be in the bargain bin soon.....because alot of people aren't willing to put in the learning curve for such a game....much less get and use
SONY should have made the headset MANDATORY with this game
i was on the fence about this game because of the lack of single-player but your review is making me rethink that stance. my wallet and wife both hate you.
I have the game pre-ordered, but due to the beta, I have been contemplating cancelling it. Perhaps the final game offers a better experience, and I'm willing to wait to find out. I'm anxious to see what other reviewers have to say before I make my decision as to whether to keep the game or not.
That said, I give credit to Zipper Interactive for trying something a bit different. I think the chain of command structure offers something new and interesting, and I'd like to experience those aspects of the game for myself -- or at least have reviewers describe those aspects of the game in more detail -- before I come to any premature conclusions.
In the meantime, I'm looking forward to pouring mass hours into Mass Effect 2.
true, however there was still a rough squad based combat system implemented and a position as a OIC which was important for the overall success of the team
thats why i said MAG is an evolution of that aspect of BF2
I may revisit it for sure. I can tell you now that Zipper is more than aware of MAG's strengths and faults and wants to keep supporting the game post-launch to constantly improve it. Some of the issues I highlighted in the review was actually echoed by Zipper itself when I spoke to its members.
But i hope you accept my apology. The tone i used was harsh and uncalled for.

See you on the battlefield !
Most if not all of this information all of us know from the beta.
Amazing that you know it was a two hour event. I wish I had your ability to know things that even people who were at the event did not know.
(pro tip: The event was an all-day affair, and I requested more time after the event and got it during the night as well)
Whenever I knife someone in MAG, I usually blurt out "F*** YOU!" due to some gut reaction. I feel kinda bad for the person I knife, since they hear me yell that as I slice them :P
