Just kiddin.
Man this is alittle disappointing. Been lookin forward to this since they announced it. I played Mafia 1 like hell back in the days, but judging from this review i dont know if i have the money to spend on it, especially not with Shank, Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions and Move coming out soon.
It sucks that there isnt a good rentalservice in Sweden so i could rent it.
Ah well, i'll wait for some more reviews on it and then flip a coin i guess. Or ill just keep playing Starcraft 2.
I want to have SexualChocolates babies
Well, fuck. I dont have any mafia puns for decent/alright.
The PS3 version is an atrocious port.
In before the dumb shits: I have both consoles, Prefer my PS3 heavily, Just telling the truth. Check my Blog description if you don't believe me.
Outside of the demo, how much of the game have you played? I agree that it's a poor port (if your idea of a poor port is inferior visuals and such). But the extra content, to me, makes it a better experience. The visuals are noticeably poorer on the PS3, but not to the point where the game is unplayable. Visuals, especially when we're talking "OMG THE GRASS ISN'T 3D ARE YOU KIDDING ME" are low on the list of things that make a game worth playing. Content is king, as they say. Unfortunately, if you take my suggestion and rent Mafia II, you won't be able to play this additional content so...
Demo only.
To clarify the 360 thing in the first post, I think 7.5 is what I'd expect for it, which is what the PS3 got ofcourse. My idea of a bad port is "inferior on a technical level" graphics, frame rate most common.
Also, No idea about the Avatar... Strange.
I'll pass.
Mafia II is not an open world sandbox game and I thank you for at least pointing that out so people understand before buying this game for the wrong reason.
Also, is the driving fun at all, since there's a lot of that to be done? Or do you slip and slide all over the place?
The driving is pretty solid, though it is annoying when you die instantly on contact with something. Winter physics vary a bit from warmer weather, but honestly not enough for me to notice unless I was slamming on my handbreak to spin around.
Your review got me even more excited to play the rest of the game. (a.k.a. The demo was fun.) :)
Also if the developer really thought it was such a vital part of the package they would've included it in the entire game.
Unless the Ps3 version has something other than DLC to give it a higher mark-up. I'd say all three versions deserve the 6.5.
Nope. As I mentioned in my review, I played the entirety of the PS3 version, yet only spent a few hours a piece with the PC and 360 games.
@DinosaurPizza:
Fair point. But considering it was packed with the game, it (technically) comes with every purchased copy of Mafia II. If someone is making a buying decision based on scores (or content), the PS3 version is the way to go. But you are correct, remove that extra content and you have yourself a 6.5 experience, in my opinion.

Boobies!
With this and kane and lynch, it looks like I'm going to be playing mag on my week off. Which I'm more than fine with.
I purchased batman for ps3 for the very same reason I'm gonna choose this on ps3.
Seems like a waste, making a big world like that and not putting anything in it. Oh well. See you at the $20 mark, Mafia 2.
"The 360 version is lower than I thought, the PS3 version is way above.

I agree, totally. I also see where Nick is coming from by preferring the extra content. Therefore, in no way can I buy this game right now. If I bought the technically superior 360 version, I would feel gypped on not having the extra missions. If I bought the PS3 version, I would have the constant thought of, "I wonder how that would have looked on 360." This is frustrating because I DO want this game, but not like this. Maybe in the future if the extra missions are released on XBL for 800 points or something along those lines, but for now, forget it. One customer down.
Regarding the content of the review: very dissapointed. I was hoping this would turn out really good as I missed out on Mafia 1 and wanted a modern experience of it.
Because if I crashed I would die or I would raise the ire of the police, I almost always played it safe when driving. It's possible to go batshit on the pedal and speed through the streets, but I kept finding it just made my life harder. So I took it slow.
@Leviathan902:
We regularly review games in advance of their release (or day of, depending on publisher embargoes). Recently we reviewed Kane and Lynch 2, Lara Croft, and Madden 11 all in advance of their release. Expect a Metroid: Other M review on Friday, a Shank review tomorrow, and a Dead Rising Case: Zero Review day and date of its Xbox Live Marketplace release. And those are just the games I'M working on.
