fucking FINALLY SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS THIS.
i mean seriously just because the game is short doesn't mean it lacks replayability or content.
just look at Vanquish, can be finished from 3-5 hours but just because you beat the game doesn't mean you have to stop playing now.
there's tons of replay value like score and time attacks.
same thing happened to God of War series.
my brother finished GOW2 around 6-8 hours then IMMEDIATELY plays it and finishes it in 3 hours on the SAME FUCKING DAY.
not counting challenge of the titans and other unlockables.
MGS games can be finished around 5 hours of less if you skip the cutscene but does that mean the game is short on content??
i think people are keep forgetting that this kind of games are meant to be REPLAY over and over again.
and oh i actually replay alot of shorter games than long games.
i mean take for example Mass Effect series.
i spent around 100 hours on that thing, i don't think i could replay it all over again and make some new choices since well i should be spending my time on newer games.
that's why shorter games are awesome, can be finished quickly and effectively and can have time for newer games.
but of course im not saying ALL games should be like this.
there should be a balance of both.
i just got an email from gamestop(i know i wasn't supposed to order from that store since the Dues Ex Fiasco) but that Jimmy Urine outfit is too good to pass) that my copy will be available tomorrow!!!!
though it's a shame that the japanese version(Premium version) seems to be the better package over all(again).
not only it has Dual Audio(English/Japanese as well as the two japanese VA. yes Juliet is voiced by two different seiyuu. Eri Kitamura and Yoko Hikasa) the voice cast can be access if you complete the game.
for example you start with Yoko Hikasa for the PS3 version and Eri Kitamura for 360 version. after completing the game in their respective consoles you unlock the voices from the other seiyuu(Eri for PS3 and Yoko for 360)
plus the unlockable costumes you can choose is amazing.
i think it was 19 costumes, though im not sure if the pre order costumes from the US(Jimmy Urine, Rockabilly, Golden Foxy Funk, Goth Girl, Evil Dead Ash)
overall im fucking excited for this!!!!!
F U Sterling I just finished playing Dragons Dogma and that is the last word on Earth I want to hear.
MUST.REMAIN.STRONG
Seriously, though, it sounds like a new camp classic has arrived to fulfill all of one's needs for both the absurd and the genuinely non-ironically excellent.
It's kind of like Fooly Cooly or Gurren Lagann that way, is it not?
Only the mini-games are. The actual game rewards you for finishing fast, but there's no actual time limit.
Fun review, Jim. I can see how these could be hard (I write reviews freelance now and again). At it's core it's really a guilty pleasure, but on the other side you can't fault it for doing so much stuff right. I think your review fully justifies the score, and sold me for certain.
At least it's better than freaking Onichambara.
PS - The next person to post "First" on a Dtoid article is getting banned. This isn't fucking GR, people :)
But am I the only one who is disappointed Suda 51 has went from making games like Flower, Sun, Rain and Killer 7 to... Boobs and Panties the game?
Not to sound like a hater of dumb games, but R* and Saints Row 3 and plenty of other "Dumb" games get released all the time, When was the last time something like Killer 7 had a major release? It seems like "Artsy/Intellectual" games are exiled to PSN and Steam and the like.
To comment about M Randy Dixon's banning of people who say first.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
If I wasn't so lazy, I would comment in every single article to celebrate this fact and call it a victory lap.
Jim Sterling understands this.
The fact that there will be people who completely avoid this game because of "VALUEMONIES" causes me great sadness.
Thanks. x
James Gun did the writing, but by the time he was involved most of the gameplay, settings, and even bosses were already in place. Give him credit, sure, but this is still a Suda game. It really bugs me too because I've seen him doing interviews and he makes it sound like it was his game and no one else helped make it.
Great review Jim. I'm surprised you loved it so much. I'm actually glad to hear that it's only 5-6 hours. I want a good game that doesn't overstay its welcome, with lots of reasons to play it again. It sounds like this is perfect for me.
I also think I am in love with it."
Rare is it when a a line or two in a review sells me on a game. The last time I remember that happening was the "clowns eating each other" line in the Deadly Premonition review. Jimbo, my boy, you've done it again. Game fucking bought.
The non lock on tracking is bad to the point where you'll whiff attacks sometimes even when you're directly in front of the enemies' face. There's actually a attack homing skill that you have to buy that alleviates the problem somewhat but certain special moves (the butt stun manuever and the grab especially) will still whiff inches away from the enemy. The lockon is toggle only, zooms in way too close and is stiff to the point where you can only attack the person who's locked on; you won't be able to attack anyone else unless they're directly in the path of the lockon. The only way to change the person you're locking onto is the right analog stiff, which is stiff and unresponsive. Those same traits apply to the off lock on camera as well.
As well, get used to using any other move besides the high slash, it can be interrupted by an attack easy and has a ridiculous amount of delay afterwards. I'd advise you to stay away from buying any combo chain using the high slash but lo and behold, the store doesn't tell you which move purchases are part of it.
The story is fun but not worth $60, and I don't see how Jim says that the battle system would keep you coming back. Arkham City had a deep and responsive enough battle system to do this but Lollipop Chainsaw doesn't.
This game has gotten more marketing from WB than EA, Ubisoft and Capcom ever bothered to give a Grasshopper title. They really seem to believe in this game.
As I said, that gives the impression that it's not going to be a good game. Very, very few games get that sort of marketing and then turn out well. It's typically a sign that the publisher has little faith in the game and doesn't believe it can sell it based on its merits as a game alone. Which, now reviews are in, doesn't seem to be the case. It sounds like this could have been sold on its gameplay 100% of the time all along, so WB have just been doing it a disservice. I mean, I have watched every trailer and video of this title that's come out since its announcement, and yet there are three things I've picked up on in reviews today that I previously had no knowledge about. That's bad marketing, right there. The PR's meant to tell me about the game and the gamers are meant to go crazy about the tits, not the other way around.
