but it is...
Good review - a mainstead Kirby game has never let me down, and this looks like good solid four player fun.
@katomaru
Review scales are different. A 10/10 for some people is "perfect", and should "never be given out". That is retarded. Some people give out 10s like candy. That is also retarded.
Jim thinks this game is a "must buy" for Wii owners. To him, that's a 10/10. Keyword - to "him" - the person doing the review.
I think Jim reviews more by aura than anything else. And his Kirby aura is perpetually bright.
How dare they!
Translation: Kirby, while offering a 6-7 hour campaign that is, and essentially always has been, the norm for a game of this nature, and many more hours for those who choose to play to completion, Kirby does not offer enough bang for your buck. With so many games offering tremendous multiplayer offerings on top of their 5-6 hour campaigns, often with little replay value outside of "collect these and get an achievement", it is hard to justify paying full price for a focused and robust single player game.
I'm sorry, Jimmothy, your conclusions are invalid.
#yourewelcome
Again - there is no such thing as perfection. Human beings cannot possibly attain "perfection". A 10/10 is "near perfection".
Get the word "perfect" out of your video game review vocabulary. Jim really liked the game, and couldn't really find any true negatives about it, at a $50 price tag - that's all there is to it.
Jim typing "10/10" on the internet because he had fun isn't magically going to delete San Andreas from the shelves.
That's your opinion. I have very little interest in some other games that come out this season, like Battlefield, COD or Gears. Kirby looks infinitely more fun to me than those games. No doubt that those titles are good, but to me Kirby is worth $50 and the others are not.
Seriously, if you're going to read a Jim Sterling review, then just read the review. This is one reviewer where you're better off ignoring the score.
CoD to CoD
Gears to Gears
Uncharted to Uncharted
Resistance to Resistance
Halo to Halo
Battlefield to Battlefield
Kirby to Kirby
Don't assume I like BF3, I'd definitely get this over BF3.
@OneRed
Was it really necessary to translate my post into something I don't agree with? It has nothing to do with multiplayer. I don't care about BF3 or MW3. Your post was a complete waste of time and extremely rude.
@arkane9
I don't care about any of those titles either, or most titles coming out this season. I just don't have much money and Kirby isn't worth $50, simple as that.
Thanks for the review. I can tell you genuinely love this game just by reading this review. I often ask myself how you have the chance to enjoy games when it seems you are posting up a review daily. I find it difficult to enjoy games when people play them just for the sake of finishing it and writing a review.
It is nice to see you enjoyed a game this much especially "After a year of complex and brooding games...". I Hope that the next games you play are ones you are looking forward to and that you enjoy them as well.
Looking at Metacritic, Destructoid's average score is 71, just shy of the mean score for all publications. I think this cute little 'Jim scores the highest/lowest intentionally' idea you have only exists in your mind.
More generally; people, fucking relax. Are you so sheltered from the real world that a score on a fucking video game is going to ruin your life? God, what a bunch of fucking babies.
"in a genre"
"genre"
For folks getting their undies in a Sunday knot comparing this title to BF3 or Batman, let's remember that many times reviewers are ranking a game on a scale based on it's genre. To score a game on one universal 'game standard' is kind of hard. Games have different budgets, goals, and aims; having one flat standard is neither useful or fair. You can do that for individual aspects like graphics or load times, but for an 'overall' score you have to compare like to like. Kirby is being judged against the small slice of straight-up old-school platformers. Saying Kirby is a 10/10 old-school platformer doesn't intone a mass gaming audience will think it universally 'better' than a Deus Ex or Batman: AC.
Which is exactly what makes him an excellent game critic. If you prefer roboreviews in the vein of electronics or automotive reviews, there are dozens of sites that will satisfy that itch for you. I think its about time more reviewers stopped pandering to what they feel their audience expects from a game, and reviewed it for exactly how they feel. You know, like every other form of entertainment is reviewed.
Watching a GameTrailers review is like watching a review for fucking tires.
Fair enough, I went with the only logical reason someone could proclaim this game not worth the price of admission as though it were indisputable fact.
With that out of the way, you haven't explained exactly why this game is not worth the money.
Also, comparing Kirby to GoW3 is like the cliche goes 'like comparing apples to oranges.' Two completely different games that share little in common with each other. Why is everyone mad?
I'm not saying that Jim is wrong, it's his opinion, but I can't say I personally agree. I'll have to give Kirby a go whenever I can get my grubby hands on it, and maybe I'll even agree with Jim.
I'm starting to think the PS2 and Wii are the only game consoles I'm going to need until I pass away, especially the way current game trends have been going. Just not for me, current gaming. Man, I should have bought a Wii years ago!
Thanks for the review Jim.
