Short campaign with little to no replay value. Multiplayer is a way to increase replay value, but there are many others.
You really need to stop reading everything with this weird persecution complex, dude.
Simmer down, son. Jim LOVED Epic Yarn. He gave it a 9.5. Stop jumping the gun just because you saw "Jim Sterling" in the header and began frothing at the mouth.
People really abuse that term by not respecting what it means.
Anyone with limited funds and access to the required systems will be comparing Kirby and Battlefield 3, when they choose whether to buy one or the other.
Still don't understand how you've come to this conclusion. For a game of its kind, it is fairly standard, and offers a fair amount of things to do outside of the main stretch of campaign progression.
@Master Snake
Fuck man, my PS2 backlog will never get finished. I have about 25-30 games on my media shelf that still need to get played, and many more I haven't purchased yet. My backlog for the PS3 and 360 is maybe 3 or 4 games strong, mostly because I'm waiting for complete versions of those games to come out. This is the first console gen that has not resulted in a huge backlog for me, probably because there's like no diversity in console games anymore.
On a side note, the list of PC games I feel I need to play once I can have my bud build me a decent rig (and teach me how to make sure it runs well for a long time) is longer than the list of PS3/360 games I have actually played.

Well, it must be me, but I always find myself going back to replay Kirby games. Being highly fun and simple action oriented 2d videogames, do you really think they have that little replay value?
And seriously, they are not THAT short unless you really rush through them. Maybe it was because I replayed a lot of stages for fun or in order to get the Gold Medals, but Kirby's Epic Yarn entertained me a good 25 hours.
And, ugh, why the hell do you call the main game of a side-scroller campaign? It hurts my eyes.
Is that so hard to understand?
To my understanding, weeaboo was a PBF comic that was used as a meme on 4chan to hate on western folks who are obsessed with Japanese shit.
So yeah, a westerner obsessed with Japanese shit.
I thought the review was well done and I cannot wait until I get my Wii back out of storage so I can buy and boot up this game.
Indeed but it's not a bad thing. People need to learn to take reviews in context of who's reviewing them.
There is always some level of reviewer bias, as long as they make sure they stay true to the same bias no matter what it's easy to adjust the scores based on where your personal preference and the reviewers differ.
The only time we should be getting pissed at reviewers is when there is no consistency in any of there work. When one week they claim something is a cookie cutter sequel but the next week applaud a game that has done exactly the same thing. With the reason or rhyme as to why they have done so.
@OneRed: Your PS2 backlog might neve be finished, but it will definitely be worth it to try! I know I have a bunch more of PS2 games I still need to finish! That's also taking into account games I still haven't bought for it yet, and some games that I need to replace (some of my PS2 games got destroyed in a flood). So I'll be occupied with my PS2 for years to come!
"Kirby, Meta Knight, Waddle Dee, and King Dedede unite to help a lost alien rebuild his spaceship for no other reason than charming hospitality"
Meaning the game has no story.
"there's a great soundtrack on offer, although the selection of tunes aren't quite so memorable as in other titles."
"but the main stages can be conquered by players of almost any skill level. That said, those who want to see harder platforming action ought to play through to the end"
"It can take a solid six hours to beat the first time around"
"but it's ironically stimulating to have Kirby going back to a conventional title, especially in an industry so pressured to innovate. Kirby doesn't need to innovate, he just needs to be fun"
10/10 is suppose to be a master piece with no flaws that people will praise generations to come and be reminded for its impact in the industry.
How this equals 10/10 blows my mind. It's like a number is pulled out of a hat around here.
Everyone who is in a tissy fit over the score, have a nice day.
The story plays no factor in the review much like the "story" in a Tetris is inconsequential. Difficulty scaling, allowing players of various skill levels to approach the same task as they see fit, is a GOOD thing. And length of first-run play time does not factor in extra content or "just for the hell of it" replays.
Neither games are out yet. Have you played them? If not, SHUT THE FUCK UP.
I wonder if that is intentional...
(Good review Jim. I just recently picked up a Wii again, so once I can catch up on other Nintendo classics like Super Mario Galaxy 2, Kirby's Epic Yarn and Donkey Kong Country Returns, this will be in my collection.)
It's kind of depressing that so many people are angry that this game was given a high score. Is it so hard to believe that a colorful 2D platformer with retro sensibilities got a perfect score? When people get upset over a low score for a game they like I can somewhat see why they're upset, but getting upset because you think a score is .5 or 1 point too high is ridiculous.
I however am advocating that this is better than a vast majority of the trash they put out nowadays.
What is truly difficult, however, is comparing games that are completely different in a meaningful way. Therefore, my approach is to compare scores of games that are in the same genre and reviewed by the same person. As such, I THINK most people would agree that comparing this score to other 2D platformers reviewed by Jim would be appropriate.
What do you think, Jim?
