I really think you need to go back and actually play the game for more than a couple of hours, then give it a fair review. It does have a fair share of matchmaking issues but when you are in a game, you forget all about it.
This sloppy, lazy, cheap sensationalistic journalism is getting so tiring.
Maybe I'll wait for a sale or once the first free DLC map is released in a month or so. Until then I'll go back to Kingdoms of Amalur.
Not sure how many times I can write "It plays like just another first-person shooter" before I'd become as repetitive as Gotham City Impostors' gameplay.
It's great that a lot of you don't find the progression as dreary as I did. Maybe you loved the core gameplay more than I did, so it didn't actually feel like such a chore. For me, after spending a number of hours playing over the same old stuff, I couldn't see the appeal. But that's just me, I'm just one guy, and I'm sure those of you defending the game will continue to love it.
I just saw it as little more than big DLC conduit and that's what I wrote about. I know some of you want me to write more about the gameplay (although if you've played it that much, I don't know what YOU need to know) but I have nothing much more to say about the gameplay because of how derivative it is. Derivative isn't necessarily bad, but it certainly doesn't lend itself well to in-depth writing.
Shit reason to deduct points as far as I'm concerned. 'Specially if the game is being sold for less than even most budget titles.
<- My reaction when reading all of your retarded reviews. Go play with that weird banana you're holding..But there are issues that you didn't mention that are very frustrating. Such as suddenly switching teams for no reason, my team was about to win and suddenly I got put on the opposite side and lost. Just today I was 15 and 0 within the first couple minutes of the match and randomly switched sides. No reason for this, it's stupid.
The knifing is wonky and don't seem to work very well, if you miss there's a good 2 or 3 seconds where you can't do anything. Annoying when you run out of ammo, swing at the person right in front of you, miss, and can't do diddly squat for a 3 count.
Psych War mode is TERRIBLE. I played a match for at least 20 minutes where neither side scored, it would spawn us on the clear opposite side of the map from where the action was. Then when we finally put the battery in the goal for the win with barely anytime left the host rage quit and we didn't get any of the credit for said 20+ minute game.
However, with all that negativity said, the game is tons of fun to play with a group, if you can get two or three friends playing with you, it's massive fun.
I typically agree with your scores Jim, but this time I think I can't. Although I understand why you gave it what you did. My score wouldn't be a ton higher though, 6.5 or 7.

Even with all this im still enjoying it.
Also, you can view certain items as a badge of honor. For example, the bra is 1000 points (Im a prev, get over it. I get so many boobs in my face its cray-cray), so either that person is dedicated enough to work to unlock it via playing and being good (the better you are the more points per game) or they are hardcore enough to buy the item and further support the developers.
It just a fun, goofy game. I could see 'hardcore' shooter fans not liking it, but its freshing for a multiplayer FPS b/c people take TF2 and MDWF and COD so seriously. Its nice just to jump around and shoot jokers for a change :)
I know, right? I'm not that bad at the game -- mostly average, with regular appearances in the top three -- and I get up to around 40 coins.
And to others: The items being cosmetic doesn't change things when the aim of the game is to unlock that shit. This game is built around creating an avatar, so I think it's very fair to criticize the way that's been implemented.
Really surprised people are this defensive over the game, but I guess it's cool it has a following.
Seriously, I see people of high rank with default costumes. I'm surprised it influenced you this much Jim. By rank 30 I'd already purchased the ones I wanted, and have a stockpile of 1500 coins now. I ask again, what level/rank did you reach at the time of your review?
It's like you derided a house you were contemplating buying after spending give minutes in it because it didn't come with new furniture. If you were a movie reviewer you'd probably gripe about something one of the extras was doing in the background.
If anything, I'm likely to get bored and be even more annoyed at it.
But still, I'll let YOU be the grand decider, friend. If you think there's some Scrooge-like epiphany I'll have after playing to the level that YOU personally decide I should play to, I'll add it to my to-do list.
Also, why are you referring to fun facts and rampages as perks and killstreaks? They are nothing like COD.
People play games for the gameplay and not for microtransactions yet you barely touch on gameplay and go off on a totally unrelated tangent of your opinion on free to play. This game wasn't built around that and it isn't a core gameplay mechanic.
Another thing, how can you not tell the difference from a chemical plant and an alley? How is it that all these levels are hard to distinguish from another? Honestly man, did you even play the game for more than a day before you wrote this review or did you just play for 4 hours and deem it a TF2/COD clone with your opinion on its DLC/microtransaction element? Because it sounds like the latter and that is pretty embarrassing.
It's cool that you've decided to invalidate the review, but repeating yourself twice in this thread seems to indicate that you can't get over it. If you don't think the review is valid, you don't need to keep corroborating it to yourself.
And once you get psych profiles (level 30 I think) is when you start getting the bigger boosts to coins and xp. I'm somewhere around level 60 now, and I can easily get 50-100 coins in a match.
In all seriousness though I'm hoping this teaches a few people that the only opinion that REALLY matters at the end of the day is their own. If you like it, then fan-fuckin-tastic, but reviewers don't have to. Besides, even if this game got a 10/10 I'd only get it if every one of my xbl friends was reaming it, and Awesomenauts got cancelled for some reason. Man that game is going to be amazing...
