The Case: Lets face it, is really the only reason you'd jump at this over a lan box, because it looks nice and has a ton (imo unnecessary amounts of, from the sound of it) USB ports. This however makes the chase, really the whole build, proprietary, despite the fact that nothing inside it seems to be. Without the case you'd be stuck with?: Stuff that mine as well be in your usual, run of the mill, boring, lan box (if all of it fits).
Useless chunks of Rock: Seriously? The granite mine as well be made of pure gold. Its not only weighing the case down so it doesn't tip (I assume thats the reason for it, which to me is a pretty bad design flaw), its also weighing the price down. Your not furnishing your kitchen here, or chiseling a masterpiece - Your buying a mobile computer to move around from place to place with.
On another note about the Granite, the fact that you didn't know you could remove it isn't really a hit against you, but more of a warning to beware that Tiki is basically saddling you with an unnecessary charge that, I'll assume, you can't remove from your bill. If you can, then great, but if you can't, then they need to first be a little more forthright about it (it really isn't something you should have had to figure out, I'm sorry); and second, look for a cheaper alternative to this, even if it means a cheaper molded plastic base, something like the Wii has. Or why not just allow it to lay on its side? Not everything needs to stand upright.
On the back end, about the review, it might have been nice to know a little more about the components inside this thing. Aside from talking up geology; it being cool and quiet; and the fact that it can run a handful of games extremely well, I think people would like to know whats in it a little more thoroughly then some base component info at the beginning and a passing comment about the motherboard. It's probably not really a big deal, except for the fact that I think people would like to know what their options are, considering the expense at hand. Some people get insanely pissy if a certain type of ..idk.. ram is used over another, or something.
As for that price. I've seen lan boxes on custom sites for much cheaper (like at least $500 cheaper, if not way more since I last looked into it). Maybe its because of the case, or it really is those slabs of granite, or maybe I'm not seeing the reason because we're not told much about what it can come installed with, but there's plenty of alternatives out there to this that'll leave you with extra money to kick around afterwards. I can't say I'm all that impressed by this just because it looks more like a standing 360 then a squat Gamecube.
@flynn110
Thats not really the point though, because I think plenty of people already know that. The name of the game here is literally the console-like size of the thing, which is a little harder to get when building your own rig (As he says, its smaller then a Micro-ATX) unless you want (or could deal with) more of a lan box.
nobodies home is too small to build a PC, and if it is, they probably can't afford this one.
Like others said, you can build LAN boxes cheaper, it just won't look as mind fumblingly sexy as god I want this.
Thank you Falcon Northwest for bringing a high Quality, High End sff factor gaming system that is well thought out, durable and beautiful just like my Alienware Laptop I am awaiting user reviews and trust they will go fine before I send you the cash!!
Also holy shit that is the most ridiculous run-on piece of nonsense that has ever been posted here.
Myself, I'd rather build my own because I can. Its my thing. I know how to do that. My grandfather would rather pay me, or buy one from a boutique because its easier than having to learn everything himself.
