If you're so offended by sexualization - blatant, non-vitriolic sexualization - especially in a game in which it is merely the set dressing! (Bayonetta is in the same bag.) ...then, well, you're as immature as the people you're seemingly condemning.
Was the racism necessary?
I feel like this review went from playful ribbing to criticizing people for whatever their tastes are. I get it, oh look, jiggly polygons for people that don't know what it's like to be in the same room with a woman that isn't their moms, since women don't generally visit the basements of most North American domesticated neckbears, but I also know that other cultures, like, say, Japan, tend to frown upon this sort of thing less than we westerners, which is why pervy games like this are released, mostly, from Japan.
I suppose that much is for the best, since we all know that if this were an American made game the women would all be bald men with jiggly bald heads and everything would be gray and brown.
On the bright side the characters look less like plastic figures now, so at least TN is stepping up their visuals from last generation. I can't imagine I should expect this game to be as solid as Te... nevermind.
It is just an inexcusably poor effort. Even if you do not consider this a Triple-A level game needing an AAA polish what we get is nothing more then triple-C.
Playing on Legend is pretty fun though. I still need to play through story mode, but I'm not sure I like how some characters are being portrayed.
Also, Tina and Mila tag team cannot be beaten. This is an undeniable fact.
Also, DOA has never not been about fan-service. Even DOA1 was chock full of bouncing tits. Itegaki even said he put sex in the game cause he knows sex sells, and Tecmo was at a point where they needed to do something big or they were gonna die. Hence the name, "Dead Or Alive". Literally. True story.
When has a fighting game's story ever made sense? you could say that about any fighting game's story and you would be 100% correct, it's not something to complain about. They focused on the mechanics of the game which matters more than anything in fighters.
I really wish they would bring Leon's story back to the main cast, he had the most emotional story the game ever produced
With this clear, there are two or three points that get my attention (both in the main article and in comments). The first, and the most unfair, is the comment that DoA is less technical than Tekken. Well, maybe to fully control a character you need more playtime in tekken, but when you are fighting things are way different. DoA is about countering the rivals moves, always had been, since the first one on PS1, and thats more technical than you will think. A button masher will never beat a pro player, thing that happens constantly on Tekken. (And Soul Edge saga)
Second, graphics are dated? Really? Did you play the game or you just saw some pics? The characters models are incredibly detailed, they get dirty (yes, always the same way) they get wet on sweat and the background is "real", you interact with it. Those are "small" details that catch your eye and show an genuine interest of doing things right from the developers.
Third, The history don't make sense... Dude, is your first DoA, right? Or you played only the xbox versions... You know, "Halo invented FPS" ¬¬
Concluding, DoA is an great fighting games saga, with Virtua Fighter, one of the most technicall fighting games, and yes, one of the most "breastfull atracttion" for the male (or not) players.
I will keep enjoying my weekly matches of Tekken, Soul Calibur, DoA, Street Fighter, KoF, Beastorizer, Vampire Savior, Bazblue, Waku Waku, JoJo's, Virtua Fighter,... with my friends.
