Now if you will excuse me, I'm going to use Asuka and Jun and juggle some unlucky bastards for 20 seconds.
Titties.
Games like this and Bayonetta are why video games don't get the respect as an art form that they should. Most people see video games as a mindless distraction, and this kind of crap is the reason why. This garbage basically reduces a game to "ooooooh, boobies!!"
Congratulations Team NINJA and all fans of DOA. You are officially "part of the problem."
Bayonetta fans can throw themselves in on that, too.
@TheGlue:
I'm happy for you, that you got laid in the 90's! But I'm sorry, today you can go fuck yourself with your bullshit!
@Glue
This your first day trollin', buddy? You're supposed to be more subtle. Shame you'll hook some of the suckers that browse this site, though.
You say that like there's no trashy music or movies. You realize Piranha DD is a movie, right? Or Human Centipede? Also a movie. The fact those movies exist doesn't diminish the artistry in Citizen Kane or the magic of Lord of the Rings.
So calm down. Just because you don't like these games doesn't mean Shadow of the Colossus is no longer a masterpiece. It's not DOA or Bayonetta's fault that games don't have the mainstream acceptance that Movies and Music do... it's because movies are over 100 years old, and music is, hell, thousands? Tens of thousands? Gaming is barely 30 years old. It will get the respect it deserves eventually. Maybe not this generation... or the next... but while it's maturing as a medium there will always be games that strive for artistic excellence, and there will always be games that strive to appeal to the lowest common denominator for the greatest number of sales, just like there will always be movies and music that do the same.
I enjoy T&A, i just prefer a game that's not JUST T&A (95% T&A is acceptable)
@TheGlue29: "I don't know if it's because there's more compelling fighting games out there, or the fact that I lost my virginity in the 90s and since have never had any problems getting laid..."
So how much do hookers charge nowadays?
Yeah, they really toned it down. It's obvious that they weren't trying to pander in the least by introducing their new female character with a voyeuristic creeper-cam shower scene. Losing a match and watching your character sprawl out on the floor panting heavily while you have full camera control? Nothing sexual about that.
I don't have any problem with the game, but don't lie just for the sake of trying to defend it.
@Glue: there are several books on Internet trolling that you can buy on Amazon for under $4. What the others said, about subtlty, that is the key.
Ex: "I enjoyed Devil May Cry 2, can't say the same for the original or the third. I felt Nero from the fourth game was a well developed character, and brought a new life to the franchise.
Seeing the new design for Dante in DmC makes me hype. His original design and personality seems like a breath of fresh air. This will be the greatest Devil May Cry yet."
Now, wait for the bait.(if this was a DmC article on ign)
i think, i may be done with DOA and typical fighting games in general for awhile if it all will simply be Arcade Mode and online Multiplayer from now on.
No not really, the real reason videogames don't get the respect they deserve is because the industry doesn't have the maturity to stick to their beliefs regardless of what people beside their customers (and sometimes customers too) think.
Everytime someone attempts to touch a "sensitive subject" some group arises to bitch about it until usually the dev backs down and cancels the idea or totally tones it down to PG levels, even if the idea was tried before. We've seen this happen with some games while in other cases it's completely ignored like Six Days in Fallujah (the moral void of war), Resident Evil 5 (racism), Tomb Raider (rape), etc.
That's the real reasons why videogames don't have the public respect they deserve, the industry is not mature enough to stand up for themselves and their beliefs and disregard the whining of public opinion from mainstream media, there's not mystery here, just a lack of balls.
already expected the score will be that ^^
still i want more characters like Momiji, Rachael, Ein, Leon, and Irene Law/Sonia please :P
i also want boss characters to return just to play with it like in Dimensions.
Alpha-152, Gohyakumine Bankotsubo, Kasumi Alpha, Genra, Raidou
but more importantly Momiji and Rachael!!!!
i probably expect all of this to include in the Wii U version plus Samus Zero Suit, and Ridley stage as bonus :P
About those graphics, it's just you.
I'll agree with you to an extent about the need for deeper single player campaigns built into fighting games, some do have them and some do them well (rarely is there a case for both). However fighting games at their core comes down to 1P vs 2P, and in this age of online gaming, having a strong online multiplayer as a selling point makes perfect sense. The hardcore players, the primary base who will support the game through exposure, won't "grow" a certain game if there isn't a strong enough local or online scene. Companies know this and thus focus their efforts there.
But at the end of the day, to each his/her own.
cant say I saw the vid you described, but I'll take your word for it, as I doubt you would be brazen enough to fabricate that image in the same post you called me a liar.
Games will never be art, learn to accept this and you'll be much happier.
Good review, I always did like DOA though the A.I in 4 pissed me the hell off.
Looks good nonetheless, but I want more tits.
Costumes like Lisa's one piece floss bikini? Come on, man. Just accept it for what it is.
It's funny because Bayonetta and Dead Or Alive are two of the best gaming franchises out there. Go figure.
Anyway...
DOA not technical, you say? Try pulling off Ryu's spinning disappear-y hurricane dropy thing in DOA Ultimate. Fuck that ish.
"@Sæglópur: Kmart still exist?"
Yeah, and if you work their rewards card and the coupons they give you for buying certain games (big, new releases, not bargin bin trash) you can get a lot of games dirt cheap.
Back when New Vegas came out I pretty much got it for free because of this.
Gonna pick this up eventually, but I already bought Persona 4 Arena and Tekken Tag 2. I can't hold all these fighters!
I really do feel bad for DOA though. No matter what they do, they can't get away from their T&A reputation. And if for some reason they decided to remove female characters completely, people would be saying "where are all the chicks?" Hell, even if they made a completely new fighting series with similar mechanics (a spritual sequel I guess), people would still brush it off if the Team Ninja name was attached to the game. There's no escape, and its both Itagaki's and gamers' faults.
Izuna drop.... EFF that ish in DOA, LOVE DAT ISSH in Gaiden. :D
These games always make me laugh so hard my sides hurt... me and my buddies would play the older ones on original xboxs, and just have an amazing blast smashing people into exploding walls, yelling "neeeeeenjaaaaaaaa' and the like..
Also, love hearing my wifey yell at the absurd bosses. Will Buy 100%.... just not now.... too many gamez waitin to be played at our house right now as is.
Critics who treat adult as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.
-C. S. Lewis
TL;DR version:

Sounds like a good deal.
