Still contemplating picking up goldeneye 007, why don't you guys review that? :)
I'm happy with my PS3 version, although I'm finding the magic now seriously lacking.
I wonder how the score would change if the multiplayer wasnt broken, but, considering how big of a deal it really is for this franchise, I think this is a pretty fair score given the problems.
Only kidding, I actually read the review and noticed it was the PC version, but we really should bet how many people will not notice that
It is good on the Xbox though, better than Modern Predatorfare 2
Nice one Jim.
But now i am not even considering importing the austrian version of the game. I hate bad console ports...
Also, the interface is buggy as hell in the PC version. The feature to find a server a friend is playing on and join them is currently not working at all. A person can invite a friend to join their server, but it's not intuitive how to do this. Also, the friend's list does no prioritize who is currently playing the game and who is not, so you have to go down through your friend's list to see who is online. These are problems that should have been solved before the game launched.
Sucks that these problems happened.
From what i've heard (and experienced) the game is unplayable on 2 core CPUs. Which is ridiculously stupid
Also, to anyone that thinks this is harsh (so far no one), Jim put it best " [He] can only review what [he's] got in front of [him]". If the PC port wasn't done it shouldn't be released with the other complete games.
Sux2bU, etc. Not going anywhere near this game and I'm fine with that. Plenty of new games to keep me busy for months. GoldenEye to name but one.
As for their frankly obscene Australian Steam price - $90USD - Activision can go f**k themselves.
The multiplayer's fine on 360 though - but it could use a lower-level set of servers so people starting out with nothing aren't being slaughtered by level 50s.
The SP is short. 4-5 hours.
Most people I know who have played it finished it on the first day with several hours of the day to go. $60 for 4-5 hours? Not my style but if you think that's worth it, go for it.
You could have complained about the PC's version, then gotten the game a day or two ago FOR A CONSOLE and given us a review. You've had enough time seeing as you just now posted this.
The multi-player, at heart, is incredible, but Treyarch's servers or something is throwing it all down the drain. In the first five games I had last night, I played one full, if laggy, game, then on commencing a second it crashed my console (Sort of. It simply wouldn't move off the Loading screen, so same difference.), then I played again, and it did the same during a host migration. I then spawned into a game mid-way through that suffered from major lack, as did my next.
However; I'd just waited for two or three months to get this, so I was determined to carry on, and it definitely paid off. With every game it seemed to get better and better, as if my PS3 was going "OK, I'm getting the hang of this online lark". It still suffers, but it's like having a 2/3 bar connection all the time. I'm hoping fixes come so I can enjoy it properly.
I honestly expected another MW2 story of where I just wanted to beat for the sake of beating it.
Plus Fav servers section is not working :(.
Well at least the server browser with the exception of Favs is better than cod4 IMO. Namely cause ocd4 literally crashes my internet if I refresh it more than one time.
Here's hoping it gets better.
That one line has me a little more interested in this game. I may just give it a rent tonight.
I do like the cool little extras like Dead Ops Arcade and Theater Mode. (Dead Ops Arcade is actually very fun in itself!!) I also like how you can do couch co-op online matches. That's a great addition (although I'm playing on a PS3 which doesn't allow 2 different user logins).
I'll still be holding on to my copy of MW2 since my friend and I really enjoy the spec ops co-op missions. (I enjoy this type of co-op better than typical online deathmatch scenarios.) To me it's more fun to be working towards a goal of eliminating all of the computer players instead of having respawns. All in all, I'm happy with my purchase of Black Ops. Game on!
