The number of gameplay hours and the amount of enjoyment I received from a single Bit.Trip game is greater than that of most of my current gen library combined. It's sad that people won't think this is worth $40 but they'll be willing to spend $60 on a 5 hour long shooter with mediocre multiplayer.

Would it have gotten more comments if the game cost $3
I still like you, too ;)
Anyway, for that compilation you mentioned, I would pay the full $60 because I believe that any of those three games are better than the BitTrip stuff I've played.
Also, Gitaroo-man is one of my favorite games of all time. And while I DO feel that sense of awesomeness while playing IT, I don't get any of what you get from playing the BitTrip games.
Perhaps there was a bit of disparity between my two posts, but believe me, when I see a new rhythm game hit the scene (and the quirkier the better!), I take notice and seriously consider buying it. While I've found the BitTrip games to be "fun," I don't know, I just don't feel the same weight and connection that I do to any of those other rhythm games.
Something just never clicked with me, and even in my comparatively short time playing these games, I feel like I've done all there is to do in them.
And undoubtedly, if I shared the same love for the series/creators that you do, $40 is a drop in the bucket for a good game made by people I like.
Oh, and I forgot that Elite Beat Agents should definitely have a spot in my last list. And for more comparison, I liken this BitTrip compilation to the Rhythm Heaven games (of which I know you're a huge fan). I enjoyed the DS game but when I was done, I really had no interest in playing any more of it.
However, I still stand by my assertion that the chosen price for this game will only inhibit sales to people new to the series. Perhaps the current, small-but-rabid fanbase for these games is enough to make this venture worth while, but I'm not sure if those numbers will add up in the end.
Just like Shadow of the Colossus/Ico collection, this will probably sell like shit, despite it being fucking fantastic, and one of the best games to come out this past decade.
And those bitching about the price, all the games separate would be $42. Even without considering the fantastic extras, this is still a steal.
Also, games like this don't necessarily sell better on the 360 and the PS3. Child of Eden comes to mind.
@ DinnertimeNinja- I love Gitaroo Man too, but I think the appeal in the Bit.Trip series is pretty different. Gitaroo Man is a series of songs that have a game attached to them. Bit.Trip is a series of games that have music attached to them. That's not the best explanation, but i can't do any better right now due to current state of mental exhaustion.
Why aren't I sleeping again?
Anyway, I agree that the $25 price point would be great to help people get into the series, but... the series is over. There is little sense in getting people into the series when after buying Complete, because after complete, there is no more series to get into. It's like getting people addicted to crack by giving them a lifetime supply of crack. Not much profit to be made there.
Now if you're saying that more people would buy the game at $25, resulting in more profit for Aksys and Gaijin, I see your point there too, but again, I disagree. Losing $15 per sale is a big deal. They'd have to sell nearly 50% as many copies at that price in order to make up the losses.
Is it all that likely that 50% more consumers would take a chance on this collection if it were $25? Personally, I doubt it. When a game is that cheap, it communicates to the consumer that its not worth buying at al, regardless of price. If you take two identical groups of melons, and sell one melon group for $2.50, and another melon group for $0.75, I guarantee that the $2.50 melons will sell better. No one trusts $0.75 melons.
One last thing, I hate to say it, but I'm not really in real life friends with the developer of the Bit.Trip series. I've probably spent +100 hours playing the Bit.Trip games since BEAT was released in 2009. I've probably spent a total of 8 total hours in the presence of Alex and the other guys at Gaijin Games.
That's not to say they aren't great guys, but honestly, i only started talking to them because I love their games. That may sound shallow, but its true.
Maybe you were playing it wrong?
Which is why they need to bring the quality Wii games to retail!! All the Art Styles, World of Goo, Fluidity and MotoHeroz
Personally I own BIT.TRIP on every device except 3DS because these fuckers of Nintendo thought it would be a cool idea to implement a region-lock. I also imported COMPLETE for 65$ but whatever.
What you get are 6 games with a ton of goodies and replayability. (something that is RARE today) You have broken it down yourself, 5$ for a game. Now when that's not a bargain I don't know anymore.
Seems like in the age of 60$ AAA titles some have lost their value of money. At least I can't explain why a 5 hour shitfest like Killzone3/Generic shooter is worth 60$ especially when you have no interest in playing online multiplayer.
