Any word on how the final PS3 version stacks up? I know it had some frame-rate issues before, but if they fixed it up for the final product I just might be getting this.
Also, mostly agree with Jim here. Played an hour last night, and I have no idea what's happening but I like it.
But for the vets, how's the challenge rooms or whatever? I heard this game has them. That's almost the meat and potatoes of a DMC (like) game. Like the Bloody Tower in the previous games.
if u played darksiders u will see its superior
but anyways
great combat flow and graphics
i love the game
great review
apparently there's a bloody palace like mode so no need to worry.
@CallmeAlex
PS3 still drops some framerates apparently and the loading is still there but overall still a good game.
The game is a lot better than the demo. The levels in the demo are even different from the main game.
I didn't mind Angel Attack (kinda got used to it) and there's a particular minigame later that's a blend of Afterburner and Space Harrier (really liked it).
The game's charm does fizzle out a bit at the end, but it's mostly fun (if challenging) the whole way through. I'm thinking about playing through it again sometime soon.
The depth doesn't come from button mashing. Depth is about more than how long the combos are. The depth is in the dodging and countering and timing.
seriously...bet on it. It's such a sad thing it's just pathetic.
Reminds me a helluva lot of Devil May Cry, but with added chaos and arse shots.
May check it out. Good balanced review, Jimothy!
Any DMC or Ninja Gaiden fan should get this. Others might want to consider a rent before they buy it, just to make sure the whole weirdness of the game sits well with them.
Still, in terms of straight core gameplay, this is one of the best games of the genre I've ever played, and might have the slickest system ever.
Looking forward to getting my copy (when I have some spare cash)
I too am curious as to whether those supposed Sony specialists made any significant changes to the PS3 versions.
And if I might add one more comment about Bayonetta that I don't think Jim addresses is the amount of content in the game, which I'm finding to be pretty substantial, and is very replayable given the depth of the combat system. This really is a game that you can "master." Jim is right that the combat is pretty chaotic and at times frustrating, but I think with practice you can "control" the chaos.
Reading some of these comments makes me think people are hesitant to give it a chance. If you are a fan of action games, this really is a must buy.
seriously, I might pick this up when it's cheap. probably won't happen before God of War III comes out.
why do nearly all japanesse action games involve demons and a make no sense story? can't it just be about mutated toads that aren't demon hell spawn demon toads with a story about war?
I'm sure even Dante's Inferno will blow this game out of the water easily ( though frankly God of War III will rape them both at once ) and I thought both games, Bayonetta and Dante's Inferno were crap. Bayonetta was ehh but Dante's Inferno was pretty good. In my opinion.
This seems more of a rental than a buy to me.
Kudos for not jumping on the "ZOMG 11/10" bandwagon, and for what seems like a fair and balanced review with the score to match.
80 Destructoid
Ultimately, Vigil Games and Joe Madureira have spread themselves too thin with Darksiders, which is, though I'm loathed to say it, largely style and scant little substance.

Thought the demo was pretty good and its been a good long time since I played a DMC (the third was the last I bothered with) so I will be renting this tonight, possibly buying next week. Unless I finish it in a rent.
Nice review, an 8 is good score for a button masher with bewbs.
But what bothers me most is not the retarded design of main character, but the super sleezy-cheesy j-pop playing a lot through the game. Hated the same thing in SFIV.
Oh... Not again.
A can of concentrated bland wrapped in a pretty red ribbon. The cutscenes are hysterical though. Shame there is 10 minutes worth per 5 minutes of gameplay.
However for all the loathing I had for the game leading up to its' release, it was pretty damn fun to play.
Reminds me of the early days of games (mid 70s), 1 great mechanic all the way through (if you ignore the pants mini games), so the actual moments are brilliant while the whole is a bit lacking. And yes I do remember the mid 70s, first computer....ZX81!!!
