Revelations: Persona getting a 'complete remake' on the PSP photo

If Persona 4 acted as your introduction to the Persona series, you may be curious about what you've missed by now, and rightfully so: the entire series offers just as much unique gameplay and multi-layered characters as 4 does. We heard a rumor earlier this month that the first game in the series would be coming to the PSP ... and now we know for sure that it's the truth!

Famitsu reported that Atlus is working on the title, which is described to be a complete remake of the original Playstation game. New features will include more save points, more cutscenes and a difficulty setting. If you don't know anything about Revelations, I urge you go read about it here -- this is going to be a great reason to give your PSP some face time.

No word on the graphics? They really didn't age well, they look horrible.

Maybe it won't be retardedly easy this time.

Hopefully this sells well so they can remake Eternal Punishment and Innocent Sin for PSP D:

I'd be excited to see a "complete" remake, but from the famitsu article it's going to be more of a port, with dungeons still in 4:3 and only redone menus/HP scales/etc. Still the same in-game graphics judging from the screens, though.

I have never played a Persona game. I do not have a PS2 anymore. I hope to get this for the PSP. I love my PSP.

Hmm. Given that this is a PSP remake of a PS1 game, I'm hoping the graphical slowdown typical of most PS1/PSP ports. Those summoning animations took a hell of a long time when I tried playing that PSP eboot a while back.

Also for folks that started late, 1 and 2 are VERY different from 3 and 4, and conform more to more standard jRPG conventions that you may or may not be sick of by now.

The main question remains: Upgraded port or remake?

Maybe they'll make Persona 1 suck less. I'm sorry, but that game was not very good.

The series has come a long way, that's for sure.

If they release it here and the translation is un-fudged with, then I will drop the cash on it. If not I can always play my other copy.

That is awesome news, and here is to hoping they do the same with both Persona 2 games. I definitely still slightly prefer Persona 2: Eternal Punishment to Persona 3 and 4 (although they still rock very hard).

Hey, Atlus, I'm so glad you listened. Here's to spreading the Persona love, to DS and PSP.

I think a remake would be better, since those early PS1 graphics might not look so hot on the PSP. If Atlus update this game and give it the Persona 3/4 design makeover, that would entice a lot of people to buy it.

I'm not sure the FPS dungeon crawler style of PSP Persona (released only in japan), would be enough to tease PSP gamers, in the same classic way that Dark Spire on DS might (I could easily be wrong). Gamers need a bit more than that, especially on PSP, and with Persona 3 and 4 riding high on such, we'd like to see the same on PSP.

Revelations is the hack name that Atlus USA gave their version of the game. It has nothing to do with this release.

And Mark won't be in this because he's a poor edit of another character. He doesn't actually exist in the Japanese game.

It's also -highly- unlikely we'll see this translated by Atlus USA.

I've been playing through P2: Innocent Sin with the fan translation Patch(on PSP no less), and have been throughly enjoying it. It is a lot different than P4, but to be honest, I feel like it has a deeper system in some respect with the ability to communicate with demons and how everyone can switch out Personae and the combination attacks between multiple characters. Also, I kinda miss that style of graphics that mix 2d sprites on 3d environments.

It seems like there were a lot of references to the first Persona in Innocent Sin, so I really would like to give it a go sometime. It seems like they were a lot more closely related than 3 & 4 were to the rest of the series. Any word if it's going to be based on the original version or the Americanized version?

With FF, PE3 and Kingdom Heart due on PSP again soon, Atlus will want to sell something more than the above screenshot. The Persona 3/4 engine is all ready to go, so half the work is done.

Repeating success on PSP should be easy for Atlus, since there's little competition for sweet games these days.

If PSP Revelations remake this does well, I'm sure we should get Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment somewhere down the line. Amen to that.

"Complete remake" makes me think it's going to be, well, remade, and not just enhanced-ported (so, like First Departure vs Second Evolution in terms of the Star Oceans). Am I excited? Of course! Just, now I want them to put the other games on the system as well. =P And here I just put the three PS1 Personas on my PSP...

I will definitely buy this. I hope it gets a HUGE overhaul though. That game has many problems. Maybe if this does well we'll see the same treatment with both Persona 2 games.

A bunch of others have already expressed hopes that 1) This makes it here, and 2) That similar editions of Persona 2's iterations are also in the future. Simply toss my identical sentiments onto the pile.

Gen Eric, I meant P3 and P4's graphic design style. Atlus will want to keep costs down (they don't have the resources of Square), so it makes sense and all the card are in place. Why change it when its not really required? Save that for Persona 5.

On PS2, P3 and P4 graphics are pretty good for a late gen console game. They'd surely transfer nicely onto PSP when tweaked.

@Cowboy TTop: Game programming doesn't work that way. To change the graphics style to that used in P3 or P4 would require a complete overhaul of the entire game system. And at that point, why even do a remake, why not just make another game?

OM-fucking-G!

That's great news.
Now I have a justifiable reason to get a PSP.

I've been a Megaten addict since starting P3 last year. I only have a few hours left to go before I finish. Then it's on to one of the titles in my backlog:
Persona 3 Fes - The Answer
Persona 4
Digital Devil Saga 1
Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army

I'm wondering how the story would stack up against P3 and P4 to someone who had played the sequels first. I certainly thought it was ground-breaking, but I had a LOT of time and patience to dedicate to P1. The dungeons are long, battles fierce, and you can get screwed with a crappy ending for not answering questions "right" later in the game.

While I'm glad that the game is being re-released, I wouldn't recommend the original to anyone but hardcore RPG addicts. I'm so glad that they are including more save points, because there were NONE inside dungeons, making each exploration very frustrating. You'd have to leave before your SP ran out, run past random battles on the world map to reach 1 of 2 save points. Period.

Eternal Punishment fixed this by allowing you to save anywhere, which was great!
