RetroN 3: NES, SNES, Genesis and wireless, all in one photo

The RetroN 3 gaming system tries to do it all. There's three cartridge slots in this 3-in-1 system: Super Nintendo, NES, and Sega Genesis. And on three of the four sides of the system you'll find a set of two ports for each system's original controllers. If you don't have any of those original controllers, you can play games on the included wireless controllers, which look to be total rip-offs of the six-button Sega Genesis controller. Nice!

A three-way switch on the front lets you select which "system" you want to play. I love that you could have it loaded up with three different games and then just switch between them.

According to engadget, this system is now available for $70, in both red and black.

The wireless is nice, but whether or not this is worth the purchase is entirely predicated on the build quality of the unit. No "all in one" retro device is worth it if it isn't at a similar quality to the actual units.

NES on a chip, be wary people.

"NOACs tend to poorly recreate the NES system's circuitry, which causes inaccurate colors, inaccurate audio, missing sounds, additional glitches, and the inability to run certain NES and Famicom games."

All Famiclones run off of NOAC. It's just not worth it...

I have it and it's awesome. However, the wireless controllers are pure shit. They are absolute garbage. They're infrared! What were they thinking?! Other than that it's perfect. Just get an official controller.

Also, try and buy these off of ebay or at a Play n' Trade brand new. You'll get like $10 - $15 off because that $70 price is only for people not buying in bulk!

Charl3z523: How is something that is poor in emulation accuracy even remotely perfect? We're talking full on 2A03 emulation issues leading to tons of sound problems. The 6502 is also manhandled, leading to plenty of bugs cropping up and common games even being unplayable, as well as palettes that are dark/display colors the NES couldn't even display (Such as pure yellow).

Is this by the same people who make the RetroDuo? If it is, I'd be wary. I always said that the RetroDuo was a 60% faithful NES and a 90% SNES, not perfect, but gets the job done for those without.

It's $60 on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Retron-System-NES-SNES-Genesis-Sega/dp/B003O3D5N4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1278532706&sr=8-1

It plays all my retro games in good quality. There's no controller problems like past systems, no noticeable sound problems like the rings in sonic, etc.

Only problem I've noticed is in Super Mario Bros. Mario has a thin white line around his body which obviously isn't a big deal.

And it also uses S-Video making Genesis and SNES games look better than what they actually were on the original consoles.

Just how Genesis is the Genesis part? I wonder if that thing is built to take a 32X.

Get a Wii, get it online, buy games from Virtual Console and a Classic Controller Plus, profit. Much better than this and it includes N64 games on top of NES, SNES, and Genesis.

Yes yes... there's this... or there's a laptop hooked up to your TV running an emulator with high quality scaling at 1080P. Throw in a USB hub and some pads and Bomberman's never been so good!

Snatcher for Sega CD on emulator is just the best, what's more is that it's completely legal. You can place your old Sega CD disc right into your cpu and play it.

Sega CD is my jam, I just replayed VAY. Working Designs was the best, too bad they had to end.

Um, no. The pad is not modeled after the 360 controller. It is modeled after the 6 button Genesis controller which is actually really kick ass. Was fantastic for SF2, back in the day, and the predecessor for the dog bone Saturn controller, which was also VERY good.

Damn it. It's an unattractive product alright? Plus, I like playing these older games on the cool, classic system they were made for not this Big Lots stuff. It's like getting excited over a bright red FuBu coat when you could get a bad ass old pea coat. Just my way of seeing it guys.
