So you know how Podtoid does that thing where we sit around and yap over bad videogame movies, MST3K style? Yeah, we're doing that. Say what you will about podcasts yoinking ideas from one another, but The Wizard has come up as a topic of discussion on this show far too many times for us not to do our own audio commentary on it. So that's what we'll be doing.
We realize this is incredibly short notice, and for that we apologize. Somehow or another we forgot to mention it at the end of last week's episode. So to give you a little more time to rent, stream, or otherwise perfectly legally obtain a totally legit, not at all downloaded, totally not torrented copy of the film, we're recording earlier than usual this week. The show will go up on Thursday as it normally would, so perhaps by then you'll have totally rented or not downloaded a version to watch along with us. If not, hey, you can save it for some other time.
Given the length of this episode, we likely won't have room for more than a couple of listener questions, if any. But please feel free to leave us some anyway if you're so inclined, and we'll see what happens.

Do you think movie studios could get away with making a movie like The Wizard today? Considering it was such a blatant advertisement for Nintendo and in particular, Super Mario Brothers 3 I wonder if today's audience would deal with watching a 90 minute ad. I can't imagine this working for any other product so I find it funny that it seemed acceptable for video games back in the early 90s.
Ahem, anyways, my questions.
Have you ever used the "He touched my breast" trick in real life? If not, where would you think it would come in most handy? Lemme tell you, I've stood in the empty hallways after school before and yelled that, and it feels good. ;D
Also, does anybody else think Corey (Fred Savage) looks just like Kid Chameleon?
I remember being unfathomably excited for this movie when it came out, and even more excited for the Power Glove and Super Mario 3 after seeing them in the movie.
A few months after the movie came out I attended a small gaming convention in Denver and was incredibly disappointed when the competition portion wasn't as elaborate as the competition in the movie. I was picturing myself playing Mario 3 on a stage with fog machines and thousands of cheering fans.
Do you think using a movie to reveal an upcoming game would work today like it did back then? Did it even work back then?
Also, how the hell did she know about the warp whistle?
If it's alright, I'd like to say "Thanks Lia!" for giving a copy of the Wizard on DVD so I can enjoy this 100%!
Also, I've always acknowledged the fact that The Wizard was more or less a 90-minute long Nintendo commercial. But in that case, it only makes it the best damn commercial I've ever seen.
And as for gaming related comments: What would happen if you could connect a PowerGlove (tm) to a VirtualBoy (tm) ?

Also, don't you think that there should be more movies based on gamers instead of movies based on games itself? (King of Kong comes to my mind).
Since the movie was one huge commercial, do you think there were any other peripherals they kind of left out that should have been in the movie? Like the Nintendo scope except it shoots bees at power glove kid. Don't remember if a power pad was in the movie...guess I better fire up the DVD.
