RetroforceGO! records episode 90 tonight: Zombies! photo

BRAINS. Tonight we record the newest installment of our Retro Limbo series, with a look at zombie games. They ate our neighbors, infected our friends and loved ones, and eventually made their way into our malls, at which point things really got awesome. It's a special episode, being recorded for a couple of special reasons. Mostly because we love zombies. Love killing them, that is.

There's nothing quite as satisfying as driving a crudely sharpened object through the cranium of whoever happens to be passing by and totally getting away with it because they're undead. The only thing more fun than what you get to do in zombie games is the stuff we'll get to do when the actual zombie apocalypse comes to be. Man, I can't wait for that. But I guess in the meantime we can just talk about games. Hit the comments and leave us a few questions; we'll do that.

What's your favorite way to dispose of a zombie? Shot in the head, knife them, fire?

What game had zombies that you would never suspect that series to have them? (I.e skull turtles in mario)

What game has the scariest zombie?

When you think about it isn't having zombie as a status effect in final fantasy kind of a strange concept? It basically says being a zombie can be cured just like any common poison.

If one or more of your fellow hosts were to be turned into a zombie, would you kill them to put them out of their misery or love them and chain them up in your tool shed like how Shaun did to Ed in Shaun of the Dead?

@ sadcheese: speaking of RE: your brains, have you heard the takeover by Mur Lafferty. It was partially inspired by RE: your brains and has a special guest stint with Jonathan Coultan

Here's a question for each of you.

If you were a Zombie, which other RetroforceGo cast members brains would you eat first and why?

Dino Crisis is kind of like a zombie game. You guys could mention House of dead aeries. House of the Dead 4 gas not been released to any console version.
Would you guys call Silent Hill somewhat a zombie? Evil Dead and Army of Darkness does have the undead rise again.

If each of you were to turn into a zombie, would the other members be able to kill the zombie or would they want to try trap them, with the chance of being infected, with a very slight chance of a vaccine being developed to bring them back?

If kirby ate a zombie, he would become a zombie. If kirby was eaten by a zombie, he would become a zombie.

I know this isn't a question, I just thought you should be aware of this.

Favorite music from a zombie game? Something campy like from zombies at my neighbors or something more serious from RE5.

For me music in horror-ish games plays a big part in the atmosphere.

Dear, Retroforce Go!

Hi. My name is Orlando V. Goodwin and I am a Zombie. I would like to take this moment to express my feelings on the anti-Zombie attitude that has plagued the media for the past fifty years.
Film, books, and comics, and now video games have always portrayed us as nothing more than brainless monsters, without right, or reason, who take pleasure in the devouring of flesh for sustenance. This is an untrue stereotype that I would like to correct. While it is true that our brain capacity is limited in the ways of speech and some sciences, we are not as incompetent as many of you so called “normal people” have come to believe. There are many Zombies that are very well mannered, clean, productive members of society. I for one, have been a columnist for the New York Times for over five years now, and have published over twelve books on the treatment of Zombies in modern society. I have included a list of a few of my many works, all available at your local bookstore.

Zombies: Understanding the Undead
Lifeless Love
Headshots of Oppression
Moaning for Understanding
Ghouls Through the Ages: An Oral History of Zombies

When you record your Zombie episoode tonight I hope that will be sensitive when talking about the Ghoul Race, you are all very intelligent, and if I were a brain eating monstrosity, yours would be the first I would attack.

Sincerely, Orlando V. Goodwin

In Half-Life 1 and 2 when the headcrabs attach themselves to a human head, could you consider them zombies since they behave much like zombies or something else?
With that being said, would a human being turned into a "zombie" from a alien race be considered a zombie or a alien?

OK, so I'm gonna kick it obscure and old-school with this question: did anyone play Disney's/Capcom's NES game "Adventures in the Magic Kingdom?" It's relevant because there was a Haunted Mansion level (best ride EVER!) that had zombies in it!

@Gator- YES! I don't recall the zombies, but remember renting and loving that Magic Kingdom game, if only because of the variety of attractions. If I remember right the Space Mountain section was tough as hell for me. Sadly we only ever rented it once since my brothers hated it.

So me and the wife have had multiple conversations on what weapons we should try to obtain for the inevitable zombie apocalypse. She states all the time that sharp objects don't need reloading but I think a silenced 9mm would be the best because you don't cause attention to yourself.

?: Who would you team up with in order to survive keep in mind killing skills, and the ability to deal with the messed up situation of having to possibly kill friends and loved ones, or just the guy you know will be the most prepared.

What is your favourite way, or the most satisfying way, to kill Zombies? What is 'the most original' zombie game.

Have you ever beaten Zombies ate my neighbors? Is there an ending? I can only remember the first level...hm.

Would it be creepy if I fell asleep listening to RFGO and sort of had a dream in which Colette ended up holding me like a baby, because that may have happened yesterday...

for real.

When you guys played House of the Dead did you pull the trigger like a normal pistol or did you hold the gun with one hand and use the index finger of your other hand to mash the trigger repeatedly?
Personally I mashed that bastard, I wasn't the most accurate shot so I figured a spam of bullets would compensate for that :)

Chad: Zombie dolphin, could you resist hugging it? Are they even cute as undead?

In Shaun of the Dead, our protagonists were reluctant to use certain records as weapons against zombies. Name at least one item you would each refuse(or really really hate) to use even to save your life from the coming undead.

Ok, so if the Resident Evil zombies invented inter-dimensional transport and all invaded the Left 4 Dead universe, who would win?

Also, if you were all special zombies (not neccesarily L4D ones), what would your powers be?

And last but not least, Las Plagas infected do not get away with being zombies on a technicality!

Although I've enjoyed playing a large number of this generation's zombie games, I'm kind of getting sick of them. Even L4D has worn out its welcome, as I find the game less enjoyable every time I play. However, Zombies Ate My Neighbors is still one of my favorites games to sit and play for hours to this day. And now a sentence to somehow turn this blather into a question: Does anyone else feel this way?

Also, on the recommendation of friends, I bought Call of Duty: World at War solely to try out the zombie mode. Although it's only two maps, I find it far more satisfying than L4D's more robust Survival mode. Shooting Nazi zombies with a 50s-style alien ray gun is a blast.

Hey, maybe that's it! Zombie games are more fun when they are infused with 50s-style sci fi humor. True or truer?

After listening to last week's show, I was at work, dealing with a huge pile of these old textbooks, all in the same series and from the company 'Gale'. Naturally my brain, hyped up on the sweet sweet RetroForceGO awesomesauce, instantly yelled out: "GA-LEI!" the way you guys say Dan Gale's name. 'Gah-lay!'

? - For everyone...
When the zomb-pocalypse does come about, do you think the most likely scenario would be...
- semi mindless or listless zombies that mill about resembling obstructions more than anything, until they sense something fleshy, as in Dead Rising?
OR
- supremely aggressive, intelligent zombies who seek out prey by adopting different skills or strategies, as in Left 4 Dead
OR...
- super scary, intelligent, genetically altered zombies capable of mutating into much worse things, like in Resident Evil...

So the standard hollywood stereotype of zombie vs. hoards, smokers, witches, boomers, and hunters vs. the ongoing list of atrocities from Resident Evil... Zombies, lickers, etc
