"LOL HAY but isn't every week the NES episode, har har?" You shut up and go back to your seat before I start throwing erasers, smart guy. Yes, this week's show is about the Nintendo Entertainment System. How have we not done this yet?
Well, that's why we're doing it. We may as well get to it sooner rather than later, so tonight we'll be blowing the dust out of a few slots with some down-home NES banter. You have my solemn guarantee that we will not get to everything on the list for this one, but hey, Dyson's back, we've got a really badass header image, let's just have some fun, shall we? We'll think of it as the first of Lord knows how many NES episodes we'll do, and you can all kindly leave your questions for us in the comments. Deal?

This is one thing that I always felt was missing from NES.
I'm running out of ideas...
How many controllers did you throw in this generation?
Did you get the NES advantage? I loved that thing!
How far could you get in little nemo and kid icarus?
How long after it came out did you realize that the power glove was a Gyp? In the time where you idolized it how many neighbors did you envy?
Mine would have to be Yo Noid! Such a terrible game but I played the crap out of it when I was little.
What game do you think has aged the worst?
Did anyone of you own one of those pirate cartridges that had like 30 games in them?
--topic-wise anyway.
*holds podcast to his mouth and blows love over all of you*
Question: Are any of you into the modern homebrew NES scene?
There's a DDR clone called DanceMania 2000, Sack of Flour, Heart of Gold (a decent from-scratch platformer), a thousand variations of Street Fighter 2/3/Alpha (some playable, some not), original .NSF-format chiptunes and even this in honor of the Famicom's 25th anniversary!
What were your favorite NES accessories? Remember the Power Pad? I had a three-in-one Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt/World Class Track Meet cart that came with the Zapper and Power Pad. It was quite awesome. I also had a lot of fun with the Multitap playing Nintendo World Cup, which had River City Ransom-esque soccer players that me and my friend gave silly nicknames. Pretty fun arcade-style soccer game, as I recall.
Me neither until today, and in honor of this episode of RFGO I shall play Gradius on my NES with my NES Advantage. Adjustable turbo fire FTW.
I was around 9 or 10. My parents bought me one so that I wouldn't quit playing football for the local league. I hated going to practice, and would have rather stayed at home and played atari and read comics but my dad had this vision of my being a famous football player. They bought me the system and I continued to play football for another 6 years, eventually learning to enjoy it. In the end I still play video games, but I don't even watch football.
I'm going to go with Monster Party. Because it gives me nightmares, and a monster apologies for being dead I believe.
Sorry I'm Dead!
anyway have any of you played blades of steel? One of my favorite things about it was the horribly awesome chorographed skating and the ship game advertisement during intermissions.
also, Have you played more than 2 games that used the light gun?
Broke only one and that because of escalating rage (Galaga was the reason)
"MAKES THE PASS, MAKES THE PASS, MAKES THE PASS, BAKES THE PASS."
There is no Double Dribble speak in my world, only Blades of Steel chatter. *caa ching* "BRADES FA BEEL"
(Also I know that this is a bit late but I kept missing the pre-show posts cause of work and I couldnt give up the chance to thank you guys for being amazing)
Anyway question!!! Over here in England the NES wasn't nearly as succesful as it was stateside, with home computer (Amiga, Comadore etc) being the norm as opossed to the consoles you guys grew up with.
Therefore I never owned one growing up and would like to know where you guys recommend I should go about finding one and what sort of price one should pay for one? Cause NOT emulating is just not the same...
Tried removing stuff from it, but the only comment that went thourgh was a blank one
What were some of your favorite rentals? A list of games I have fond memories of renting: Bubble Bobble, Bad News Baseball, Kickle Cubicle, The Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino & Hoppy, Dig Dug II, Bugs Bunny's Birthday Blowout, Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers, Duck Tales, Gremlins 2.
And of course, what was your worst rental? I think [i]Where's Waldo?[i] probably wins for me.
NES holds a special place in my heart being the first system I ever played and subsequently owned. I still remember my first time in our old neighbour's basement, playing Super Mario Bros. That day changed the course of my life.
What are the RFG crew's "First time" stories.
(Sorry, I tried to make that sound non-sexual but that's the best I can do.)
Are there any super-obscure NES games that you guys love? I'm a fan of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, which was quite possibly the hardest NES game known to man.
How did you guys like the (not really) new and wonderful d-pad? Did it ROCK YOUR WORLD?
Am I the only person who finds the controller to be comfortable? A lot of people complain about the edges but that only bothers me when I hold it with a death grip.
Also: Which version of Super Mario Bros did you own: Just SMB, SMB and Duck Hunt, or SMB with Duck Hunt and Track Meet? I had SMB and Duck Hunt.
Did you hold your Zapper right against the screen while playing Duck Hunt? It was the only way I could get any points...
I personally got really mad at a copy of megaman 3 once..until my parents realized the nes wasn't plugged to the tv.
Man Tengen had some WEIRD-shaped cartridges.
I am so happy to be able to listen to these again! And I come back just in time for the most spooj-inducing episode evar!
Who ruled the NES? Capcom or Konami?
(I vote Capcom because Little Nemo and Mega Man 2/3 are just that good)
In fact I still have mine but these days all I use is the normal pads.
I sure do.
I'm from Eastern Europe and all we had back in the day were our ATARI XE's and COMMODORE 64's with their tape decks.
NES finally made its way to our part of the world in the form of Famiclone called Pegasus (well known for having 180 games on one cartridge), but at that time we were all playing on our AMIGA's and early PC's.
There was just no point in going back. What have we missed? Cartridges?
Kind of surprised that I haven't seen this terminology used on the Internet before.
The sad thing is, my parents got rid of it when I was still too young to realise I'd hate that when I'm older. If you could travel back in time and had 30 seconds to persuade my parents not to sell my NES what would you tell them?

So many Nintendo games.

Also, why is Balloon Fight so awesome?
