Happy Valentine's Day, listeners. We don't know each other very well, but um ... I wanted to ask you something. Will you be my friend? Just pretending is fine, too. We wouldn't have to see each other every day or anything. You could just come by like once a week and listen to my podcast, that would be enough.
I know there are lots of other podcasts at our school, you probably already like one of those. Maybe we could play a game together on Xbox Live? I have Puzzle Fighter. I really like Hsien-Ko, she's my ... oh, you're busy playing Gears of War. That's okay, we don't have to. Well, if you're not too busy later, maybe you could just leave a comment with a question in it for the show? It would really mean a lot to me. It could be about unrequited love in retro games! Do you like that idea? I'll stay up all night and make sure it's ready for tomorrow. There's also a contest this week where you can win something super-awesome.
I made you a bunch of other podcasts, but I don't know if you got them. I've been leaving them on your Destructoid every week. Heh, yeah, those were from me. I've liked you for a long time, but I guess I didn't know how to tell you. Anyway, I just thought I'd ask. Please listen to it if you're not doing anything later, okay? ;_;
You to Topher.
Civilization 2 nooooooooooooo!!!!
Also; LOOK-BEHIND-YOU-A-DISTRACTION!
*when you look back at me, realizing there was no distraction but a clever ruse, I offer you a velvet heart-shaped box of assorted chocolates*
Also,
That is all.
Was there ever a game that you absolutely loved as a child for reasons such as having so much fun but when you pick up that game now, it isn't as good as you remember it was BUT YOU STILL force yourself to play it for nostalgia's sake?
I have mine: Breath of Fire 3, one of my first PS1 RPGs and when I pick it up now, the leveling balance is so off and there are some necessary bits that slow down the story.
Aw! Topher, you're adorable! Of course I'll be your friend! In fact, will you be my valentine?
What video game character do you most want to strip and do dirty things to? And which character do you want to marry the most?
Anyways this question is for everyone.
When you reminisce about the more obscure games that you have played, does it make you sad that more people enjoy these games or are you just happy enough that you were able to play them?
Oh well, I love you all.
My copy of Retro Game Challenge is in the mail :D
Also, Topher, just wondering: I got R-Type Dimensions last week. What graphic settings do you use? I typically have widescreen for both, with normal 2-D and Crazy 3-D, using the Retro 2.0 filter. Do you use something similar? Also, Arcade view: great idea, or brain-hurtingly-awful one?
Also Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door <3 <3 I need to play that game again. So good.
also, happy Valentine's day
Q: Speaking of unrequited love... have you ever gone through a period in your life where you questioned playing (or loving) video games? Sometimes I question the time that I live in a virtual world instead of the real world.
Followup: If you do how do you get over it or rationalize this addictive hobby we all have?
My first genesis game was Jurassic Park and I would really like for capcom to revisit/remake Demon's Crest from the SNES.
Dammit Topher, I haven't thought about Nana's Everyday Life in so long. Gah, the ending! Grrr...
Oh yeah! I also had a question for all of you. How do you behave when playing an Arcade game, old or new and be it SHMUP, lightgun game or anything else in regards to continuing? Do you have a set limit on how often you'll continue, is it a money limit, or do you just decide one continue and that's it so you start from the beginning each time you play it? and why?
Also, I heard you like puppys;
And then, if you beat it without dying...
I have no question, I just really wanted to be a smart ass.
What retro themed message would you put on them?
I'll start:
BLOW
MY
SLOT
We all know that in Final Fantasy VI, Locke x Celes is practically canon. But did any of you ever wish that he would have had more of a prominent relationship with Terra instead?
And of course Happy Valentines Day and Hamzakuh to all of you!
Also despite the fact that it is Hamzakuh today, I still made this, just because:
As a player I always tend to build the most powerful team and give the best items to the main characters or the most popular. But after I realize that there are a lot of underpowered team members that just stand there, looking at me sayin "why not me". And of course you can't say no to an Level 5 Poliwag or Diglett.
So, you put them in your team, just to stop feeling guilty... and they make you lose.
I want to ask you, Have you ever lost in a game just for putting lower level characters just for pity?
Hehehe, also Retro Game Challenge is totally rad! So is Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection - All four Phantasy Star games on one disc? YES PLEASE! :D
Also,
Chad, I remember on episode 68 I believe, when you were talking about STERN pinball, you mentioned that you would love to have a warehouse full of pinball games. Well check out this post I made about the Cupids and Canines 2009 Casino Night and Pinball Tournament. There are a couple of videos showing the Pro-Am Pinball Association Headquarters and its warehouse of pinball games. Plus, the proceeds from the event went to charities promoting canine cancer research and animal adoption.

Also Clone Manga is completely awsome. Nana's everday life is both the funniest and most heartbreaking thing ever.
I wish I had a good specific question but I don't :( , so I'll just ask a generic one:
Most memorable love story in a retro game? I like Earthworm jim and Princess What's-Her-Name. Jim's affection is ultimately undone by his own cow launching antics. Its the pinnacle of unrequited love ;_;
1. When two characters are in love in a game, is it more affecting than in a movie? I find it is, because you're attempting to fill the role of this character. Especially in some games, where the main character can't, for some reason, be with the person they love.
The best for this is Chrono Trigger. Chrono doesn't talk, and you kinda... "are" Chrono. If it were a movie, he'd be a character, not a vessel. So, when he falls for Marle, you fall for Marle. When Lucca falls for Chrono, Lucca falls for you.
2. Why can't other games nail this as well as CT did?
3. Crushes: best feeling ever, worst feeling ever, or best worst feeling ever?
And example could be if someone made an FPS out of DDR. Yeah this question is horrible.
Also, Sweden rules!
'You meteored my balls bitch!' That was when it was meteor.
And i feel sorry for Yoshi, living on his male-centric island of multi coloured but male only (i presume) yoshis. I bet he gets all funky in his pants when he gets a rare chance to see Peach or Daisy in, er, other games.
Also, I emailed you guys my details, for the swag I won for last weeks reader question, I hope you got them? I forgot to mention my Dtoid name, I hope thats not an issue. Whatever the case, the guy from the UK who emailed you is me!
