Merry Christmas, listeners! For your gift, allow me to present to you this picture of our own Anthony Burch and Ashley Davis. Yes, that's really him. This seems to be the popular thing to do, so maybe we'll all join in next year.
But for now, we'll be enjoying our regular holiday tradition of exchanging gifts on the show and talking about some of our fondest Christmas gaming memories. Hit the comments with your questions, holiday greetings and gingerbread men, and we'll put a new episode of the show under your tree for tomorrow.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Have any of you ever given someone a really, really bad game for Christmas and knew it? Also, what is the BEST game/game related thing you have ever got for Christmas? The worst?
Question: What was your favourite christmas present that you got as a child or teenager, And from who?
If Santa's Elves were capable of making AAA games, what kind of game would you ask for?
If Santa owned the copyrights to every game ever and could recreate objects from any game, what object/item would you ask for? Character dolls would work, too.
I'll be back in a few comments to spam cute Christmas animals so I don't break Destructoid:P
i want a fooly cooly game in the same play style as kingdom hearts
I'd wager a third person shooter set in an alternate timeline where the J-Man bitchslapped those Roman haterz and stole their hoes, yo.
I like saving Santa in Secret of Mana and playing the entirety of James Pond 2: Code Named Robocod.
<3's Dolphins, and yard sales for everyone!
Chad, please give me the best Christmas present ever and do Rip Taylor impersonating Santa.
I don't have any questions. Have a great Christmas guys.
Firstlier: Merry Christmas to all the Retroforcers and Retroforcettes!
Firstly: Does the entire RFGO! crew celebrate Christmas? Anyone do the Kwanza thing or anything like that?
Secondly: Would it be cooler if santa was a dinosaur or if he was a panda bear?
Thirdliest: Favorite Christmas treat GO! (mine is egg nog)
1. What game would you pick to make a Christmas version of? Kinda like Christmas NiGHTS.
2. What's your favourite Christmas themed game? Mine is of course the Christmas NiGHTS.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year from Sweden!
Enchanted Arms (PS3)
Kingdom Hearts RE:Chain of Memories (PS2)
Blue Dragon (Xbox 360)
Tales of Symphonia (Game Cube)
Skies of Arcadia Legends (Game Cube)
Please help, my well being is in your hands.
Merry Christmas, and to all a good gaming season.
I was just wondering what the most expensive gift you have ever given/received was.
Also, I can't wait to listen to the Christmas episode of RetroforceGO! while sitting by my Christmas tree, playing Chrono Trigger DS. I love you guys!
Mine would have to be Zelda because the first memories I have of playing a Zelda game was beating Link to the Past on my cousins SNES while I was at his house for Christmas.
Also,
Chad, are you going to get presents for your puppy?
Also, do you all have a favorite fighting game character?
Mine is Tachibana Ukyo from Samurai Showdown. Anywhoo, have a great Christmas-Holiday-Celebration-Thang you guys!
I'll hold the fort down here in Chapel Hill NC Chad!
So, what was your most memorable videogame item you recieved for christmas?
Anyways, Happy Holidays all. I'll be playing Persona 4 :)
Also you guys are right about rpgs at Christmas, I'm hopefully getting Chronotrigger ds, which I for some reason have never played.
Is there one retro game that any of you guys (and girls) play every year on or around the Christmas season?
In terms of games and games related stuff how would you rate 2008 as a year?
What is the best non game related gift to give someone?
With gaming becoming very digital with DLC and Live Arcade and things like that is wrapping up a gaming related present and putting it under the tree losing its style?
Have a Happy Holiday RetroforceGO and listnership!
Did you guys ever sneak down to check out your presents on Christmas morning before your family woke up? For some reason, I can picture a mischievous little Chad peeking at everything.
Not really a question, but Ashley Davis is adorable.
I've got a question: What is the worst game you've ever received on Christmas? Bonus points if it's something you actually asked for. For me, it's got to be Mega Man X7, and yes, I actually asked for it. It's Mega Man, it's 3D, what could go wrong?
Mega Man having to be unlocked to play as him, that's what.
For example, I can remember relatives old and young enthusiastically playing Goldeneye, Mario Kart 64 and recently, the Wii, seemingly fueled on holiday cheer.
I remember pulling an N64 kid over a PS2 when I was 10. What happened was that through out the PlayStation One life cycle I was told that we would wait until the PS2 came out to get and that I should just play Nintendo in the meantime. And on Christmas day, my oldest brother who was about to move out of my parent's house got the system.
At that point my other brother and I felt absolutely devastated we weren't going to get to play it. My mom then insisted that we open the last present, of which we found a DuraFlame box under the wrapping; and we instantaneously believed that our last gift was Fire Logs!
But she kept telling us to actually look inside the box. Inside we found Mega Man X4, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2, some DVDs, and ANOTHER PS2! We then flipped a bigger and completely different shit then the first PS2 unwrapping.
My mom actually bought TWO PS2s for her kids! (or Santa did, don't quite remember what it said on the wrapping.) She's done some other amazing stuff on Christmas, but she knows more about that then I do.
Have you guys ever absolutely freaked out like that over a Christmas gift?
Happy Retroforce Holidays!
P.S. Guess what I did this weekend.
I think I may be playing too much video games.
ICO in 8bit for me :)
I've never understood why "retro" has become synonymous with "consoles" when the C64 was one of the greatest game machines ever. Can't forget the Apple II and Amiga as well.
{old man voice}
Back in my day, we had to use a floppy disk drive that only held 170K and we loved using the notching device that made it double-sided! And we were grateful! And games took forever to load until we got our "Fast Load" cartridge from Epyx, not like you kids who just put in a cartridge and the game starts immediately! Bring back the LOAD "*",8,1 days ... and GET OFF MY LAWN, ya young whipper-snappers!
{/old man voice}
:)
I'M SO CONFUSED.
More C64/Amiga!
The first episode would be all about Impossible Mission, Zack Mckracken and the Alien Mindbenders, and the foxes in C64 port of Super Mario Bros.
While frankincense, myrrh (both of which are a sort of sap from trees, apparently) and gold are fine gifts, what gifts would WiseforceGO! give baby jesus?
As a random sidenote, does this video, starting at 9:25, remind you of Chad?
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario World
Mega Man 9
Super Metroid
Zelda: ALttP
Zelda: Wind Waker
Zelda 2
Phantasy Star 2
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
Bonk 3
River City Ransom
Was any specific Christmas gift responsible for your foray into gaming?
(I.E. my fate was sealed with the receiving of the Sega Genesis packed with Sonic the Hedgehog.)
Don't get smart with me, young man! Treat your elders with more respect! ;)
Oh, man .. Impossible Mission .. "Another visitor! Stay a while! Stay forever!!"
I'm not looking for a separate podcast, although any such podcast should include C64, Atari, Amiga, and so forth. Hell, even some Atari, ColecoVision, and Intellivision.
For some reason, just about anyone who talks about "retro gaming" seems to think that the NES is where gaming all started so they never go back even farther. Just to be clear, that includes far more people than just the RetroForce Go team, so I don't want to seem like I'm just singling them out.
When you realized the truth, did you get more realistic when asking gifts or since you knew who delivered the presents you started to get more bitchy in order to get what you wanted? Since manipulating a real being is easier than manipulating a fake one.
Wait ... WHAT?! He doesn't?!! You mean ... he's ...
I hate you! You just ruined Christmas forever! And my wife's got some explaining to do now.
tl;dr- :P
Just you Topher :p
Haha, I guess Anthony isn't entirely evil, like we all thought, huh?
So I got myself Super C, and Abe's Odyssee and Exodus for myself as early Christmas Presents, since I don't really have anything to do. Abe's Odyssee is a little hard for me to get into, I might try again later, but it just felt a bit... weird. Did you guys like this game? And Super C is Super C, we all know how much everyone loves Contra :)
My Question: Best thing to drink/eat on Christmas Morning while opening presents?
Again, Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to everyone :)
:(
Oh, stop it. I never said anything about "you all suck". I leave that to the avatar-less trolls who apparently have nothing better to do. Offering a legitimate criticism is not an attack on the show, okay?
If there was an Atari 2600 episode then I'll say "My bad!" right now because I apparently missed it, which is somewhat disturbing.
But you can't deny that RFGo for the vast majority of shows seems to go backwards in time to include only consoles back to the NES and then just stops right there.
All I'm saying is that ALL retro gaming should be integrated in the shows on a regular basis, not just 1985-present and not just consoles either. Yeah, you guys do talk about some older PC games from time to time. But NES-and-newer consoles seem to be THE focus, and I'm simply saying that there's more to retro gaming than that.
