Welcome back, listeners! Sorry we missed you last week, but you see, we were busy at this little party. Some weird thing out in Seattle with games and sweaty people and lots of booze. Also, there may have been waffles at some point, but I'm pretty sure it was mostly about the booze.
Anyway, we're back in action this week, and we'll be discussing all the rad stuff we saw at the sweaty-people festival as it pertains to retro gaming. There's also the little matter of a certain game that was released last week, which I believe also had something to do with waffles. I'm not sure, they don't tell me much. Hit the comments with your questions for us, and you just might win some awesome swag that has been touched by Niero himself. Even if you don't, you still win a new episode of the show tomorrow, and that's the gift that keeps on givin'. I won't say what it keeps givin', but we'd appreciate it if you didn't hold us responsible for any medical costs you might incur.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
That is all.
PS. Still waiting for my swag from the last episode... Thanks!
Thanks to all for the misadventures to Pink Godzilla and the vinyl shop though! Also in before 1,000 replies about Necros on fire.
Also Stella is amazing. Con SARS are not (I'm pretty sure EVERYONE got them).
BTW, I've heard lots of people's reports about PAX, but no one else mentions anything retro. Were there any retro goodies to be had?
As for a question, I was not able to make it out to PAX this year, because I'm a poor student (imagine me dressed up as Oliver Twist, only holding a DS and a cup of Ramen). But, I'm going to Seattle in February for a family gathering. Are there any non-PAX related things you did in Seattle that were super-awesome?
Now I leave you with me, prior to being sexually violated by my new robot pal:
Given the success of PAX this year and the amount of fun everyone had, will there be a Destructoid Panel next year?
Also, Pendelton21's perler bead sculptures are amaaaazing.
I hope PAX was epic for you all, and I doubly hope that I can make it there sometime.
So of the games you saw was there anything that made you think, "hmm...this could be worthy of discussion in a RetroforceGO!:FUTURE!! episode"?
(also retroforcego!:future!! sounds like it would be a totally awesome manga/anime...someone make it happen)
Also, Toph, please explain to the public why you were so ridiculously hard to find at PAX. I think I saw you twice total.
WHY
WHY
Will there be a Retroforce based on button-bashing games (like Track and Field, Athlete Kings, etc)?
Is there a possibility of an episode that concentrates on the RPG series that aren't as popular as the Big Two, like Breath of Fire, Lunar, Ys, Illusion of Gaia, the Mana series, Koudelka, Front Mission, Grandia, Star Ocean etc?
Also, a puzzle episode? Now that even Puzzle Fighter is retro and puzzle games have gone from AAA titles to being cast aside as 'casual', it might be time to reflect on all the gems like Mean Bean Machine, Money Exchanger, Wario's Woods, Yoshi's Cookie and Mario's Drug Problem.
Also, I thought the Retroforce listenership might want to see this, sorry to bring it up again xD
I have a generic question for you, what was your favorite game at PAX?
Also, something dolphin related, you know those glass ball things with lightning in them, and when you touch the lightning it moves to your finger... Kinda like a lava-lamp, only with lightning. I saw one of those at Walmart, but instead of a ball, it was a dolphin with blue lightning inside, it was the most amazing lightning-lamp ever.
Super Mario RPG on VC!
Nothing else really other than tell us all how PAX was.
Also, publishers like Capcom have found that greater success can be found by bringing certain series (Bionic Commando, Mega Man 9) back to their basic elements. If you had to choose a series to apply this formula to (except Sonic.. which is fucking WAY too obvious) which would it be?
Also on the whole Castle Crashers is broken thing what do you think of developers when they release a game that isn't quit perfect and use updates to fix it, because back in the retro days developers could never do that and had to deal with their product glitched or not?
Stella or collete- Why are you/stella so awesome/cute?
chad- what the awesomest thing about Stella wong?
topher- do you think that Stella should be cloned so their can be someone as awesome/cute as her in every gamestop at all times?
Also, I bought Taiko Drum Master DS from Pink Godzilla and I haven't been able to stop playing it. It's amazing!
Long Live RFGO!
PS - Dyson, play Earthbound! Immediately. I finished it about a month ago and haven't been able to stop thinking about it and seem to be comparing everything in my life to it ever since.
I just want you to talk about Castle Crashers. I played it at PAX for the first time -- for about ten minutes (maybe less). I told Dan Paladin this when I met him, but his game is the first one I've played that makes me REALLY want to own a 360, just to play it. It's fucking brilliant.
Also, Pink Godzilla's booth had a copy of NHL 94 for the Sega CD, and I almost considered buying it -- and then I realized I don't own (and have never owned) a Sega CD. *Sigh* If only they'd had a Genesis and NHL 95 for sale along with all those PS1 RPGs (Vagrant Story, Ogre Battle, Chrono Cross, etc.).
P.S. I MISS YOU ALL SO MUCH! Topher, I had a story for you, but I forgot to tell you it in the little time we spent together...so come up to NYC sometime and I'll tell it to you then!
What was the coolest retro-inspired game you saw on the floor at PAX this year? What was the coolest find you may have purchased at Pink Godzilla or any other retro game vendor this year? I got Intelligent Qube for the PS1, take that!
I don't have a question for this week, but enjoy this awesome video that I just watched on youtube
Mario vs. Airman: He can be defeated!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGJ3bYET_3U
Awesomeness of PAX
Huge glomps, and great classic romps.
Rape Cakes all around!
Question
How were some of the games at PAX (don't limit yourselves to classic games)? Was there any real serious rape or sex at pax? SERIOUSLY. Finally, can we haz Chad sing some more Aladin songs?
Anyway, here are my puppies, born this saturday:
I decided using French names for the puppies. The 2 males are Gaston and Lois, the 3 females are Belle , Anne Marie and... Colette!
Talking about our canine friends, which are your favorite retro-dogs? Mine are Rush (Megaman) and Turbo (Soul Blazer, The Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma, and Robotrek).
PS: Please guys, no jokes about Colette being my bitch ;)
What did you think of some of the low-key titles, like Ninja Town and the Incredible Machine inspired I Love Geeks? What did you think of the crazy gravity mechanic in Puzzle Quest Galaxtix? And please tell me you got to play the arcade Taiko Drum Master at Gameworks! :)
Also, tell Burch to get off his stupid-haircutted whore ass and make a Podtoid.
Did you guys enjoy PAX more than E3?
Also, did you guys happen to see who's in that new PSP game, Dissidia: Final Fantasy? I'll give you a hint...
Also, I found a copy of Earthbound in my town for $50.00, but that's a big investment for me... Is it REALLY as good as I keep hearing? And is it worth $50.00?
And, Super Mario RPG... That's all I'm gonna say about that.
Chad: Dolphins or puppies?
Dyson: When will FPSes go away?
Topher: Which do you prefer/ are better: horizontal or vertical shmups?
Colette: How happy would you be to see Chrono Trigger on the Virtual Console?
Stella: Are you on this podcast?
Also, what are your thoughts on KoF 98 coming to Xbox Live? Excited? Scared? Neither?
Anyways how about that VC and XBLA, not so much Wii-Ware.
Actually I just remembered, have you guys seen Gradius Rebirth on the Japanese Wii-Ware, thoughts?
