RetroforceGO! records episode 56 tonight: Listener questions! photo

In all the excitement over doing a Chrono Trigger episode last week, it turns out we forgot something. Let's just pretend no one noticed, and we'll do the listener questions episode this week instead, eh? It can be our little secret.

Let's also ignore the fact that we're recording a day early. Stella and I will be attending Otakon this weekend and won't be around to record, so rather than leave you abandoned by the side of the road we figured we'd just do it tonight instead. I don't know if the show will be out any sooner, but we'll see how that goes. In the meantime, you kow what to do! Hit the comments with your questions for us on any topic you choose, and let the mayhem begin.

@DanMazkin:
If you like those bands, you'll probably enjoy a good chunk of the stuff that goes on every month at Dwelling of Duels - http://dod.vgmix.com/.

My question for RFGO:
If you were to associate yourselves with a song or theme from a retro game, what would that song or theme be?

btw, awesome job on last weeks show. Covering Chrono Trigger isn't the easiest of tasks to take on, especially when you only have 2 hours to talk about it. As soon as that show ended, I dropped Chrono Trigger on my not-hacked PSP with a retranslated not-rom patch.

Questions for you;

1. What are your reactions to the 'Eternity's Child' stuff that's been going on?

2. Will you do a RFGo! on button-bashing games (like Track and Field, etc)?

I know you guys pretty much hate the way PS1 graphics look nowadays but there are pretty good PS1 emulators out there that clean up the graphics quite a bit.
Don't you guys think it would be pretty amazing if Sony released an update or some type of software for the PS3 that could upscale the graphics of your PS1 games the same way the PC can?

I recently purchased two amazing games, EarthBound and Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Which one should I give my undying devotion to first?

I'm finally getting a DS, and I'm wondering what games I should check out, specifically ones I might not have heard of.

Just for a little background, side scrollers and shmups (star soldier series ftw) are my favorite genres. Also, I love puzzle games.

Sorry if this is a lame question. I'm sure you've gotten it before, but I just really love many of the games you've recommended in the past for other systems and stuff. So, I would rather hear it from you than just checking metacritic or whatever.

Lego Super Monkey Ball=Win

Two questions, one serious and one lighthearted:

Serious question: In this advanced state of storytelling in games, we are sometimes asked to do things in the game that we may consider morally reprehensible. In games like Bioshock or Shadow of the Colossus, this is intentional and is used for story purposes, but have you ever been asked to do something in a game that most would have no problem with, but for some reason you personally object to? For example, in Metal Gear Solid 2, I've always had a problem with working for the Patriots, and can't help but feel that Solidus Snake had the right idea in his rebellion against them. Any of you guys have a similar experience?

Lighthearted question: If you could form you're ultimate JRPG party out of any 9 people real or fictional, who would you choose and why?

Also: Last episode, you talked about how it would be interesting to see how someone who had never played Chrono Trigger before would react to it today. Well, I'm taking up your offer. I've never played Chrono Trigger before, but when Chrono Trigger DS comes out, I'll be writing a journal of sorts in my C-blog about what I'm doing day to day in Chrono Trigger. And if I don't, someone bother me until I do.

I bought a DS because FF4 is one of my favorite games, and Chad (and Jonathan) wrote a really good review on it, saying it was pretty much everything I hoped it to be. When it was first announced I wasn't expecting it to be this... Amazing!

Anyway, I was wondering what the rest of RFGO thought of it, mainly Colette, because last week she said she had never played it before. I've played this game so many times in the past I know exactly what to expect, and I'm just wondering how the game holds up to someone who's never touched the original game.

Would you like it if they did FF5 or even FF6 in the same way?

What would your feelings be about doing a episode with James Rolfe AKA (Angry Video Game Nerd)?

also can we get an episode topic that is officially voted in my listeners?

And maybe one of those live chat feeds during the recording of episodes.

Im sure you've all heard about that new fighting game from square with all teh Final Fantasy characters in it. What was it...Dissda...Dissma...Diss...something(lol). Anyhow, are there any non Final Fantasy Squaresoft/Enix characters that you would like to see as bonus characters in Dissidia?

Also, any chance of incorporating Skypecast(or whatever it was Jim Sterling used in Podcastle 16) into the Retroforce podcast?

And, I second Merry Ho's idea about the "listners choice" episode.

I've always wondered how each of you prepare for each show. How far in advance do you decide on the topic of the week? What kind of research do y'all do to prepare? Do y'all try to play through any of the games to be discussed as a refresher?

Also, are there any pre-show rituals that y'all do right before the show to prepare?

I was going to ask a serious question, but screw it.

Topher: If you could invent a new slurpee flavour, what would it be?

Chad: What are your planned weapons of choice for the Volcano Battle?

Collette: Is it pronounced Choco-bo or is it Cho-co-bo?

Dyson: I'm still going to nag you to try out Guardian Legend ont he NES, I just wanna hear all your opinions on it.

Stella: All the crew have a favourite game that they are known for, what's yours? (You can't steal someone else favourite either, that's the rule :P)

and finally Rev: Where the shit are you meng?

Also is there any RetroForceGO! member you wants the next Kingdom Hearst game am I the only person you likes Kingdom Hearts 2 or what?

Topher - Which will be the best XBLA game of the summer?

Chad - Which video game character would you impregnate? Would you spank the child?

Dyson - What genre of video game would you make?

Colette - How many Chocobo Dungeons does it take to equal Chrono Trigger?

Augh, Topher I almost missed this week.

What are your guy's opinions on Disgaea?

If Dyson isn't back will you hold tryouts for the place of Super Metroid loving and Metroid Prime hating people? As I'd totally go for that.

Colette, can you make your picture do laser eye beams because Nintendo isn't making new Metroid games for Wii-Ware?

Topher, how do you prepare for playing a shmup? As I horribly suck at them but have started trying some though NOT emulation. I'm trying to work my way through TwinBee for the NES, are there any others I suggest I NOT emulate to try to up my skill level?

Stella, how does it feel becoming a mini-net celebrity over the course of a couple of weeks?

Chad, if the mafia was after you and put a severd colphin head in your bed, what would you do? Collette, same question with chocobos.

will fun colourful games like like de blob, always stay under the radar of most gamers because of the colour and "childish" appearance? or will the wii and at times XBLA thrive thanks to not having the HD graphics full of greys and dark colour?

also, me and my iphone thank you for talkin bout de blob. i bought it on a whim after hearing you guys talk about it, and its a darn skippy fun game if ya ask me.

1. What retro game mechanics do you wish were more incorporated in modern games?
or
2.once you beat a game does it become casual play after that? the first play through is to get to the end, but after that its just to get a better score or maybe to see if you can do it faster or better than some one else which is pretty much the reason to continue playing wii sports ect. (my question is of course focused on retro games.)

Alright. More of these. Choose which one you think is best.

1: Will the Volcano Fight between Chad and Anthony be the final event of the 2008 Bejing Olympics, Now Featuring Mario and Sonic?

2: Now, I've been playing Super Metroid again, and I realized. The Wrecked Ship, is actually Chozodia; the new final area in Zero Mission, Metroid's GBA Remake. What do you think of Companies explaining things in ways like that?

Oh, and to make it retro based, Super Metroid: Best, or BESTEST?

Do any of you have any hope for the Wii? Aside from a couple of niche titles (Megaman 9, et al), it seems gamers have gotten the finger and the Wii's become a popular toy instead of a gaming console.

So I'm building this MAME arcade cabinet right now, and it has like a thousand games on it. When I'm done, you guys should totally come over and play.

This brings me to my question, do you remember any RETROMAZING arcade games that used a spinner? All I'm coming up with is Arkanoid and Tempest. Basically, I need you to justify a $100 spinner purchase for me.

@Topher-My HAPP arcade trackball came in today, and OMG CRYSTAL CASTLES!!!!

I have more of a comment than a question. This is something that's been bugging me for a long time: Rev's self-deprecating attitude in his Rev Rants. I always enjoy the rants and quite often agree with the point trying to be made, but it really takes the wind out of the sails when the rant ends with something like "but whatever, maybe I don't know what I'm talking about, just ignore what I just said".

I respect Rev Anthony and enjoy his rants, but I must say--grow a pair. It's YOUR rant, if someone doesn't like your rant and thinks you're just rambling, they can go fuck themselves! Those fools could always fast forward past it.

Anthony, keep the rants coming and I'll keep listening. But please always own what you say and don't even think about the haters.

Also, cocks. ;)

I'm sure I'm too late but I'm holding out a sliver of hope that I'm not.

I just wanted to say that Ms. Stella is a fantastic addition to the cast, first of all. Second, now that you've done a show about my favorite RPG of all time, I'd like to ask if and when you'll be doing a show about my second favorite: FF3/6j. Third, I'd like to wish Dyson well, wherever he is. Fourth, there's a distinct lack of pictures in this thread.

Fifth... Topher, did the betrayal of your beloved Slurpees to the FPS tribe fill you with uncontrollable rage that could only be assuaged by hopping in a one-man fighter and waging war upon their entire fleet?

Much better. Love the show!

Have you guys heard about Dark Room Sex Game? While not exactly retro, it allows you to connect your Wii remotes to your PC or Mac and use them to pleasure an invisible partner. It has options for single player, two-player competitive, or 2 teams of two players.

What is your favorite retro game that is all about sex?

Q1 - Have you played any PC only RPGs such as Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale and if so, what did (do) you think about them?

Q2 - Is there any plans to have an episode about the Commodore 64? Did any of you ever play games from SSI's "Gold Box" series?

Q3 - If you could have one arcade cabinet at your home, what would it be and why?

A final comment. I played Earthbound thanks to this show. I am eternally grateful! Play it Dyson! Every day that goes by is one more you will regret.
