In all the excitement over doing a Chrono Trigger episode last week, it turns out we forgot something. Let's just pretend no one noticed, and we'll do the listener questions episode this week instead, eh? It can be our little secret.
Let's also ignore the fact that we're recording a day early. Stella and I will be attending Otakon this weekend and won't be around to record, so rather than leave you abandoned by the side of the road we figured we'd just do it tonight instead. I don't know if the show will be out any sooner, but we'll see how that goes. In the meantime, you kow what to do! Hit the comments with your questions for us on any topic you choose, and let the mayhem begin.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Have you guys bought pixel junk eden yet?, ITS AMAZING!!!!
love you guys
Topher, what do you think about Galaga Legions? Have you gotten to try it out yet?
Chad, how addicted to Geometry Wars 2 are you? :P
What games are you all looking the most forward to this year?
Thanks guys on another batch of amazing episodes! <3
Why do you guys think Braid NEEDS to be played?
(But you've probably already answered that . . .)
What was your favorite game website before Destructoid existed?
Anyways, question time, for everybody, what do you think about the purposeful inclusion of NES glitches limitations in Mega man 9? Is this something you think will impact the feel of the game, or do you think that you might not notice it while having too much fun with the game?
Thanks for your time retroforce, you guys are awesome!
...yeah, that was awesome!
What's your favorite retro character?
Favorite NPC?
Favorite overall character?
My next goal is beating your Pacifism score. You're goin down Concelmo! :P
and just in case you have no idea what game I'm talking about (which i doubt cause you guys rock) here's a Wikipedia link
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illusion_of_Gaia
I recently wrote a post on Shiren the Wanderer and, during my research, I noticed that numerous sites gave the game scores in the 50s-60s simply because they felt the gameplay was too "archaic" and difficult for the modern gamer. In my opinion, the game is masterfully executed and a perfect example of the rougelike genre. When I was growing up, no one ever docked points from Contra or Battletoads for being too hard, so why is this a consideration now?
This show amazes me every week and I hope to see both Topher and Stella at Otakon this weekend!
im thinking Castlevania 2 Simon's Quest, i really liked that game(especially the music).
Also, Have you guys ever played Grandia for the psx/saturn? imo, that game has elevated turn based combat so high that nothing else that I've played has come close to it's depth. If you haven't played it then I have NOT copies that I can give out.
p.s. FAPFAPFAPFAP FAPPITYFAP FAPFAP OWW MY EYE
Why does chad love Dolphins, hasn't he heard about whales?
You can ALWAYS count on whales.
Can each member of retroforce agree on what the best games for each console is? Just name a handful of games each. I'm sure there are lots of great games no ones ever heard of. Like my favorite game Zombies Ate My Neighbors. Did any of you guys play that 16-bit classic? I could name off a lot of games asking "oh hey did you play," so I'll only mention a few I think may have slipped under some peoples radar.
Demons Crest series has you played it? If you ever do a ghouls and ghost show you can't forget to bring a towel and discuss at length the amazing amounts of awesome contained within the spinoff Demons Crest and the nes game Gargoyles Quest 2. If you've never heard of these, they're games starring the Red Demon you occasionally fight in Ghouls & Ghosts.
How about Earthworm Jim? I consider both those games to be some of the greatest ever. Surely those two would be worth talking about if only for the insanity of the game. Something attracted me to the series as soon as I heard you can attack people with your face. Not to mention cow launching, epic battles with a goldfish in a bowl, a level where you become a blind cave salamander, the door chase, the what the heck level, and so much other fun times.
The Suikoden series! 1 & 2 are 2D role playing games on playstation one. They're nothing short of epic and both feature a 108 recruitable characters. The storylines both feel really good with lots of memorable characters and moments. If you or anyone reading this likes RPGs (and I know some of you do) play Suikoden 1 AND 2. Also I want to hear you guys try and pronounce the name. If you have saved data from it and you play Metal Gear Solid Pyscho Mantis says the name, but really, just looking at that word is painful to my brains. But the games are a MUST PLAY.
A final question:
How could you guys not buy push ups ALL the time? Pizza Rolls are a decent frozen treat, but push ups are the greatest.
The fact that you can get them for free Chad makes me sad.
It's not a Slurpee, but it's in the same ballpark. Acceptable?
If you could remake any 1 BAD game, what would it be and why would you do it?
Anyways... question... question...
I think I'll totally cop out and ask the same question as I did for podtoid.
What makes a memorable villain? Lately games have had such bland antagonists that I really never get the feeling of menace that I used to enjoy when facing Lavos, Zeromus, Kefka, or Mother Brain. What do you think makes the villains work? What are some of your favorite villains? Why do newer games leave me hanging? Can you even suggest some more recent games that might fill the void?
Also,do you think that more developers will go the route of Mega Man 9 and add glitches to their games to create a more retro feel or is what Mega Man 9 doing just a gimmick?
Have a drink every time:
Dyson hates on an FPS
Chad calls something "amazing"
Dolphins are mentioned
If there is a yardsale
Someone uses Double Dribble speak
Rev Anthony hates something
Chad calls something "the greatest thing ever"
Topher mentions food
Dolphins are mentioned
Dyson finds something at goodwill
Colette mentions Zelda
Dreamcast is mentioned
Chad laughs hysterically
Someone mispronounces something
The term "NOT download" is used
There is a guest host
Someone is in the bucket
A haiku is read
The RetroPhone (TM) calls
Someone's Skype breaks
A movie is quoted
Fap
Also if you had a choice between Nintendo making a New 2d Metroid or a 2d Zelda game for Wiiware in the same stylings as the SNES games which would you want to see the most.
Also Chad you are Awesome, infact you are all awesome, even Rev.
This wasn't really a question, I just wanted you guys to know this.
Being an avid fan of heavy music, I'll be the first to admit that I'm a little biased, but to me no other music seems to recreate the video game themes that I love as well as metal. Nothing beats rocking out to a thrash metal version of the Megaman 3 theme song, it just works so fucking well!
All of these bands clearly have much respect for the retro gaming gods, so I ask that you give them a listen and prepare yourself for the awesome.

As for a question, how do you keep/store all your retro stuff? Do you have a room for it? Is it in the corner of your room with dirty laundry/etc. on top? Sitting proudly in the main entertainment center? Or have you had to do as I did and box up most of it (all my sega stuff/nes/n64/ps1) and move it to the attic :(
Speaking of musicals, have you guys seen Joss Whedon's Dr. Horrible Sing Along Blog starring Neil Patrick Harris? When will RFGO have a musical episode/sing along blog like that?
Cant wait to hear this episode!!!
First off:
This mah new puppy. Her name is Beans (I would've named her Chibi, but my family got her while I was at summer camp without telling me and I had no say in her naming).
QUESTION! I went to the Pixeljam site and noticed that it said they made neo-retro games. Did you guys actually invent this term? Does this mean Pixeljam people listen to the show? If so, can you tell them to make a game based around Double Dribble speak, where Double Dribble speak is the core mechanic of the game, like portals in Portal or rolling in Katamari?
Which would you rather have? Mother 3 to be translated and brought to North America as a DS title OR a new Mother title for a console?
I ask because for many years I wished for Sega to bring back Nights, one of the best games on the Saturn. When they finally brought out a sequel for the Wii it was an absolute disaster.
And can you all sing something cute for us? Anything will do.
Well I can deal with the lack of seeing the characters of a game hold hands or hug there is one thing that bothers me: Why do you think that most games which include an optional romance plot allow for only heterosexual and lesbian relationships? Can the industry even claim to be a progressive and open minded industry where the selling points are guns, guts, and tits. And will we ever see a serious take on homosexual relationships in games?
Question #2: Metal Slug 7 looks like more of the same to me. In your opinion, is that a good or bad thing? Why?
Question #3: Space Invaders Get Even - are you excited for it?
Question #4: With Square-Enix bringinb so many of their classics to the DS, do you want them to expand their offerings to include games like ActRaiser, FFVI, Secret of Mana and Illusion of Gaia? Or do you want those games to be left alone? Why or why not?
If you like those bands, you'll probably enjoy a good chunk of the stuff that goes on every month at Dwelling of Duels - http://dod.vgmix.com/.
My question for RFGO:
If you were to associate yourselves with a song or theme from a retro game, what would that song or theme be?
btw, awesome job on last weeks show. Covering Chrono Trigger isn't the easiest of tasks to take on, especially when you only have 2 hours to talk about it. As soon as that show ended, I dropped Chrono Trigger on my not-hacked PSP with a retranslated not-rom patch.
1. What are your reactions to the 'Eternity's Child' stuff that's been going on?
2. Will you do a RFGo! on button-bashing games (like Track and Field, etc)?
