Welcome, listeners! Here we are again with an ... ugh ... okay, you know what? I'm not going to do that. I seriously just woke up like ten minutes ago and I'm going to need some caffeine before I can get excited about anything. Retroforce is recording much earlier than usual today.
Last week, we brought you part 1 of our Super Mario Super Special, and now it's time to seal the deal. We'll be discussing all of our favorite 3D romps through the Mushroom Kingdom, from Mario 64 all the way to the newly released Super Mario Galaxy. Which one was your favorite? What is up with them semi-renaming her from Princess Toadstool to Peach starting with Mario 64? Is her name Peach Toadstool? Why don't we still refer to her by her full title?
I just went back and played Super Mario Bros. 3 on the VC last night, which must have been the first time in like eight years that I've played the game, and I was just simply amazed at how good the levels are. Not only that, but I was amazed to find that I just instinctively knew where the powerups would be.
But which is the best 2D Mario? Definitely Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, and you people (except Chad) should be ashamed of yourselves for not having played it.
Okay...for cereal tho...we can fondly remember how AWESOME most Mario games are. But what was the most absurd/worst abortion of a game to be attached to the Mario universe...BESIDES the CD-i games?

I've always had problems with the camera and analog stick. Now that I've played Galaxy I'm starting to think it's me.
Not that I hated Galaxy. In fact I think it's the best of the 3D Marios (yay Bee suit!). However, I found myself liking the 2.5D stages in Galaxy more than anything else. Some of the 3D stages gave me vertigo.
I also think you guys should count the Mario RPG's are at least part of a secondary franchise to the main Mario series. They're very well-done, and have some of the most entertaining dialog in any video game.
... I want to live on that planet ... :)
My question:
Does anyone remember the promo video that Nintendo sent out to Nintendo Power subscribers, right before the N64's release? I ask that because in that video they had footage of Super Mario 64, and at that young age I was completely sold on how awesome the N64 was going (supposed) to be. The concept of Mario in 3-D was the most amazing thing ever! Any such memories for anyone else?
And also what is everyone’s favorite non-platforming Mario game? My vote has to be Mario Golf on the N64 as it was the last game my family really played together until the Wii came out.
Also thanks to Topher for getting the lost episodes on iTunes! These will help make the drive home for Thanksgiving break go by faster(or simply make me more prone to crash).

Also Daisy's way better than Peach. Daisy got kidnapped once and learned her lesson. Peach got kidnapped a million bajillion times, and still hasn't stepped up security.
And I'll go one record by saying that I liked Sunshine a bit more than 64, if only for its levels. The bosses are forgettable.
And last question before I start pressing F5 until the podcast is posted: thoughts on New Mario Bros? Personally thought it was disappointing what with the 100+ lives I had and lack of cool powerups outside of the Koopa shell, and the fact that fireballs kill all bosses after just a few hits.

Are you guys tearing through Galaxy as fast as you can? Or are you going through and getting every single star before you beat it? Personally, I'm trying to beat every galaxy completely, including the comet stars, before moving on to the next one, just so I can make it last longer. I don't want the damn thing to ever end.
Plus, I know this clip is super old, but I always get so delighted about watching Mario curse at Luigi over the spaghetti on his shirt. What can I say? I'm easy to please.
Imagine having access to all power-ups and a Yoshi in a 3D world. Who doesn't miss making a leap of faith onto a flagpole ftw, instead of collecting the Star. Imagine cutting the rope on the bridge with the axe in 3D. Who doesn't miss opening potion doors and throwing veggies from the ground? TANOOKI SUIT!...in 3D! The 3D Yoshi engine has already been developed. After some tweaking, it would be perfect. Would you implement the "Collect the Stars" system? It would all be amazing.
I never thought my Peach vs. Daisy question would cause this much of a ruckus. I hope I'm not the Yoko Ono of RFGO. That would be very not cool.

I like Mario Tennis. I would to see Nintendo make a Mario Hockey game. You could beat the crap out of Bowser with a hockey stick!
They should leave Rosalina, Daisy, and Toadstool in the series just so we can see them fight each other, hopefully for Mario's affection.

1. What do you guys think about Super Mario Sunshine? I believe it is a good game but not a Mario game and that is why people hate on it.
2. How high has the bar been raised for future platformers? For me, I finished Ratchet and Clank before playing Galaxy and the games aren't even in the same league when it comes to platforming.

Furthermore, I used to say things like "Daisy's so hot" but as soon as I played Mario Tennis for the gamecube I changed my mind because she's a huge fucking bitch. I wanted to be on her side, brunettes are usually hotter. I'm still undecided on Rosalina. She's obviously the hottest but we've only just met.
SMW2 is the best platformer ever, I hope the half of you that didn't play it, will.
And ummm... well shoot I haven't played a proper Mario since 64 (Sunshine a little bit, but yeah). I don't think 64 can ever be downplayed really, not just as a Mario game, but for the entire third dimension of gaming. It was polarizing for sure, but that was my first experience with true 3d gaming. It was awkward at first, but I loved it, and have gotten 120 stars a few times since.
Since you can use your Mii as the icon for your save game, and since you can spin it using the Wiimote, have you spent more than ten seconds using your Wiimote to spin your Mii's face around and around, all the while yelling "(your name here) IN SPAAAAAAAAAAACE"?
Because I didn't do that.
@DynamicSheep- Dyson is in fact the guy standing there with the megaphone. That planet's not poisonous, it is made of pure awesome. Awesome, in its natural state, is green. Many people don't know this.

Turns out I'm also late for the Galaxy discussion, I'm playing to get all the stars (just got the game last night) and I only have 21. This week will be amazing, I'm having more fun with this game than I can remember having with a game in a really long time.
