RetroforceGO! recording episode 49 tonight: Castlevania photo

Hey, we're back! Did you miss us? We'll be recording episode 49 tonight, safe within the RFGO! fortress and far away from the bitter words of Jim Sterling. We've got two weeks worth of stuff to cover, so this is bound to be a long episode.

Tonight we'll be rocking some Castlevania -- past, present and future. I could go on pretending to be witty with some joke about whips, but the truth is, we're just happy to be back in action this week, so hit the comments with your questions for the show (Castlevania related or not), and let's kick this thing into gear!

For the next Castlevania (after the new DS one) would you want it to be in 2D or 3D.

Also this is for Chad and Topher

HAPPINESS! IN MY PANTS! Man, I waited for this one so long.

Ok, questions:

Castlevania has been one of the few franchises that has stood up against the time, and always deliver something fun to play, yet addicting. Since then, the Castlevania series has changed from 2D, 3D, and metroidvania style.

Now the questions are, what is that you like from Castlevania that keeps you coming for more, whatever if it is old school or Metroidvania style?

And if there was another reinventing for the series, what would you like to see? What kind of changes would you do?

Also, Sympthony of the Night, greatest Castlevania game or greatest game EVAH?

I wuv you guys <3!

What do you think of the MYTH that the N64 Castlevania games were shite? They were awesome.

There, I said it.

Which Castlevania game is your favorite? Also what are your thoughts on the PSP 3D remake of Rondo of Blood?

I personally loved it but just curious what you all thought about it (Added points to that game for having the original TG16 game unlockable).

I have to admit I found the N64 game strangely fun as well. Anyways Chad: how many dolphins will we get if Castlevania Dracula X comes to VC as an import.

User Questions
1) What was that one boss in the "Classic" era (Everything upto Rondo of blood) and "Metroivania" era (Symphony onwords) for you guys?

2) Given how hyped Rondo of Blood was as the "Hidden" chapter of the Castlevania series because it was not released in english (ignoring Dracula X for the SNES as that's an eyesore of a game) before the Dracula X pack for the PSP how were your first impressions of Rondo of Blood when you did finaly get to play it?

what do you think of the constant handheld castlevanias? i love them but i would KILL for a console 2d metroidvania. why do you think IGA says there is no interest in a platform specific 2d game when there obviously is a rabid desire for one?

also this is for chad. found it last night. lol

Do you prefer the anime-style graphics or the original style?

What console would you want a new 2D Castlevania on? If it hypothetically comes out on Wii, what mechanics would you like to see and what mechanics would make you punch a baby?

Also, Topher, I sent you an email regarding Wedge's Beats of Rage mod. So just a heads up... and I really hope your email is Topher@destuctoid.com.

Hey Guys

If Konami won't make another 2D home castlevania do you guys and gal think that they should outsource it to a company who could, like what nintendo did with the Metroid prime series?

Also which game for all of you has the best soundtrack?

Another question!!!
Why aren't the Belmonts in every game? Like Castlevania Bloodlines where you play as John Morris or Eric Lecarde...or the playable cast from Castlevania 64, the first and third GBA games... and the new DS game all the Belmonts are dead apparently! What gives!?

ALSO!!!!! How much would you give to play CASTLEVANIA RESURRECTION for the Dreamcast??!???
Castlevania Resurrection - Castlevania Dungeon

Can you guys also touch base on the spin off games? Like Kid Dracula??

Because personally I HATE the the new art style.

Hey, guys! If Konami made a Castlevania title for the Wii, what kind of Wii-specialized game mechanics would you want them to put in? Would you want them to somehow incorporate motion control, or would you rather just have standard controls.

Also, I have a question on the subject of new games being made for old franchises: How do you think a new Jet Force Gemini game would turn out on one of the next-gen systems, political correctness of the phase "next-gen" aside?

Booya Castlevania!

Orders of bidness:

1) For anyone not in the know, I've been making cards for DToid community members lately, and today I posted up the cards that I made for the Retroforce crew here.

2) Traditional linear Castlevania, or new fangdangled free roaming Metroidvania: which one floats your boat?

3) The "we're not recording this week" thread from last week got 105 comments and some of the best pictures ever made put on it. Just wanted to bring that up :D

I hereby dub this podcast Episode 49: Salsa Of Rabies. So sayeth the Castlevania name generator!

Why does Castlevania get away with rehashing so much material from their older games? It's not that I don't like them and of course have my favourite, but I don't get everyone's circlewank over the series.

Last Time; On RetroForce Go!....

So Colette said she wanted pictures of "Candy coated animals, cute animals."

I couldn't find any candy coated animals, will candy coated ants do?

Also, Castlevania questions.
Why? This is the one series that I never got. I love the vampire myths and a computer game based on vampire killing and a task handed down the family line should be kick ass but it's just 'take it or leave it' for me. Can this episode convince me of the sheer awesome of Castlevania?

Bonus question!
According to old wives tales because of the date I was born on when I die I come back as a vampire, which of the RFGO! team will be coming to slay me when I do?

Enough damn pictures, this is starting to look less and less like a page for actual questions, and more of a "OH HAY I FOUND A FUNNY PIC WITH ANIMALS LAWL" thread on a chan.

Regardless, I finally gave in and bought a Dreamcast, and I'm trying to learn more about it, so I figured I'd ask: what are some the more unheard of gems in the Dreamcast library, and why does everyone wet themselves over Shenmue?

"Castlevania". One of the greatest series of all time, with, unfortunately, one of the stupidest names of all time. Also, the series deserves a mention for its awesome soundtracks. The original Castlevania music always gets me pumped.

Question: What is your favorite Castlevania for music?

@Cataract:

I totally wet myself over Shenmue back in the day, and back then, I had never played anything like that before. The freedom, the graphics, etc.

I haven't revisited them yet, so maybe they don't hold up so well anymore?

I guess open world, non-linear games have come a long way.

Do you think Rondo of Blood will ever reach virtual console, or see a re-release on a Nintendo system, like on Wiiware or the DS?

P.S. When I heard of Topher and Dyson's love of Asian women, I was instantly reminded of theseLittle Britain sketches! Enjoy!

What was your favorite secondary weapon?

Also, did you feel the need to break every candle/lantern and collect every heart when playing? I always felt compelled whether I needed them or not.

My vote goes to Symphony of the Night for best ever.

Love the show!!!1

I never played any of the castlevania games as a a kid but I recently picked up super castlevania 4 and I'm kinda finding it hard to get into. It's got all this love directed at it so i'm really trying to give it a shot but I don't know, maybe the fact that the graphics aren't as cartoony as say buster bust loose is making it look poorly dated to me. Well maybe once I finally get round to giving it a proper go I'll be right up on the bandwagon too.

eep i'm saying bad things about the game of the week erm does this make up for it.

I've played most all, but Symphony of the Night just has that "thing." Maybe it was the more RPG-ish elements with stat raising and stuff. Strangely I also fondly remember the gameboy version, even tho it was hard as fuck.

Discuss.

Also, the Ghost took my question already, but I'd also really like to hear your opinions. Do you prefer the "classic" or the "metroidvania" style of gameplay? I'd say the consensus is that metroidvania is better, or are ya'll sticking to the old ways?

I really wish I knew more about this series. The only games I've played are Super Castlevania IV and the bastard child Castlevania 64. I did think the music in the first level of IV was awesome though. Which game do you recommend I not emulate first?

Also, I had a milkshake on Friday. I tried to make a joke about "I drink your milkshake!" but no one got it.
