Finally, dear listeners, it's the episode that Chad and I you've all been waiting for! Tonight we take a look at one of our very favorite devlopers, Treasure, and all of the wonderful games they're brought to us over the years.
Founded by a group of ex-Konami employees in 1992, Treasure quickly became known for their unique and innovative action games and shooters, with titles like Gunstar Heroes, Sin and Punishment, Silhouette Mirage, Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga to name but a few. This is the part of the post where I stop writing so I don't turn it into a love letter, and turn it over to you kids.
Hit the comments with your questions for the show, Treasure related or not, and we'll catch you tomorrow!
04/27/2008 14:25
Which treasure game most deserves a sequel and what would you change in that sequel?
04/27/2008 14:28
so, Gunstar Heroes, great co-op game or the GREATEST co-op game?
also what were your favorite power up couplings in it?
(and bonus questions: which was your favorite controller setup for Sin and Punishment?
and what [revival, new game, anything] would be the features/content ideas for your ideal next game from Treasure?)

Those hd sonic and metroid screens are looking amazing!

04/27/2008 14:32
I don't have questions this time, just carry on.

04/27/2008 14:33
04/27/2008 14:36
the 2 player mode in Sin & Punishment is such bullshit.
04/27/2008 14:37
04/27/2008 14:37
*STARES*
04/27/2008 14:39
Wario World
04/27/2008 14:39
04/27/2008 14:40
I'm just hoping that their upcoming Wii game is an update to Sin and Punishment. Wiimote + S&P = stains in the shorts.
Oh, here's one: Which is your favorite character in Guardian Heroes?
Also, Marina is the greatest platforming character. Ever.
@Brucie97: Any updates need to retain their 2D roots. Treasure's done some good 3D games, but their 2D games are peerless.
04/27/2008 14:40
Also Ikaruga is amazing so thinks topher, and sin and punishment may be the best thing to come out of the vc ever.
04/27/2008 14:41
Also, is Gunstar Heroes better or worse of a name then Lunatic Gunstar?
04/27/2008 14:42
They go as far as to redefine themselves, by using old concepts on new games, in a completely different form as you can see how Silhouette Mirage adds the polarity design to the Gunstar Heroes formula and Ikaruga takes that design into a new genre.
What would each of you take from Treasure games and add it to another genre? You can choose more than one design feature.
04/27/2008 14:44
El questiones! ARRRIBA! ARRRIBA!
1) Stretch Panic: awesome or awkward? As a game that is all about pulling on boobies do you think that the concept overcomes any gameplay complaints?
2)Just picked up a DS, is Bangai-O Spirits worth my hard earned money? It LOOKS bad-ass.
3) Contra vs. Gunstar: which series do you like better than the other and why.
4) Do you guys like the general "no-sequel" stance that Treasure has? (I do realize that they've released some games that could be considered sequels)
5) How handsome is Chad? I submit that he is DANGEROUSLY handsome. (Or was that contest only for last week? :D)
Finale) What the fuck happened in Sin And Punishment? I'm I an idiot or does that game make absolutely NO sense?
P.S. Treasure, if you're reading this, please make an RPG. :D
04/27/2008 14:45
Really gotta learn to proof read :P
04/27/2008 14:48
Razerangel beat me to it but I also want to know Radiant Silvergun or Ikaruga.
Guardian Heroes or Gunstar Heroes. (totally different games but shit they are linked by their names)
Also can we has a Neo-Geo episode. Pleeeaaaassseeeee.
04/27/2008 14:49
What do you guys think about Treasures license based games (Bleach: Blade of Fate for the DS and Astro Boy: Omega Factor for the GBA come to my mind)? Are they one of the last developers who are able to create kick-ass license bades games?
Guardian Heroes > Advance Guardian Heroes (I played the Advance version for just a couple of minutes and I didn't like it that much...)?
04/27/2008 14:51
04/27/2008 14:53
04/27/2008 14:53
04/27/2008 14:53
So, with Ikaruga in mind, Topher- Do you prefer white or black polarity?
Complete side track, I just started Pokemon Pearl, and named my character Colette, for obvious reasons. :D
04/27/2008 14:54
Gunstar Super Heroes; I hate to say this but it was rubbish.
04/27/2008 14:56
Treasure's games are WIN,
And have many syllables
They're all AAAAAAMMMMMAAAAAZZZZZIIIIINNNNNGGGG
(Can Chad please read this one and say amazing like he did on Podtoid)
Since Treasure's games are so good, why aren't more popular than mediocre companies like EA. Is it because of all those damn whippersnappers, as Topher likes to say, just wanting there same Maddens and Medal of Honors, or is it Treasure's refusal to conform and make all there games the same?
Also Dyson, a few questions. Did you play/like TF2? I personally play it on 360 and like it. Also, I can haz my friend request accepted?
04/27/2008 15:02
Am I the only person who thinks that Topher is hotter than Chad (comparatively speakig that is: I'm not saying that Chad isn't hot in his own right of course)?
04/27/2008 15:04
Why do you hate FPSs so much? I can understand not liking games like Doom and Wolfenstein 3d, but why do others (especially Halo) get so much hate from you? Do you hate the gameplay? The stories (or lack of)? The fact that theres so many of them? The people who play them? Or did Quake touch you in your bathing suit area?
04/27/2008 15:06
What do you think Mischief Makers 2 would be like, and would you even want a sequel? What would you want in it?
Also, favorite boss from Mischief Makers?
HEEERREEESS LUNAR!

Future chad, after he escapes Rev. Anth into the wild and become one with the sea. He's so Rugged
Anyway, my question is:
What did you guys think of the new Gunstar SUPER Heroes? And would you (like I) like to see another Gunstar Heroes, possibly in 3D?
04/27/2008 15:27
04/27/2008 15:27
04/27/2008 15:28
because seriously, if I could jerk off any game company... it would be treasure.
04/27/2008 15:30
All of the monsters in the game were a genetically created food source that got out of hand and ran amuck. And somehow Saki transforms into a hybrid of one of them and a human? Really bizarre. Which only makes me love it more. It was actually Chad and Topher's review of it that got me to download it immediately. And I've since gifted it to 3 other people.
So, that inspires my question: If you could gift a Virtual Console game that has currently been released to someone who hasn't downloaded a single game, what would it be?
04/27/2008 15:37
04/27/2008 15:46
a. give it a kiss, and hope it returns it
or
b. kill all of the dolphin's family and shit on its copy of gunstar heroes
04/27/2008 15:54
04/27/2008 15:56
Dynamite-headdy was awsome! It might be retro-goggles though.
I think Chad Concelmo is kinda gangsta. You can see it in his eyes.
04/27/2008 15:59
04/27/2008 16:01
Also, a question: out of all the insane boss fights, which Treasure Boss do you think is the absolute craziest/most fun to play?
04/27/2008 16:07
Where do I begin?
04/27/2008 16:08
P.S. I love you.
04/27/2008 16:21
04/27/2008 16:22
04/27/2008 16:32
Personally, I'd like to see them take on Castlevania. Maybe then we'll finally get a freaking 2-D version on a damn console.
04/27/2008 16:38
Why do games have to be so varied today? There are always these sidequests and extra activities. I find that if there is one little aspect that I don't like that may only last five minutes it could ruin the whole experience. In contrast, old games were the same all the way through and you could tell if you liked it after the first level. And for some reason (*cough*difficulty*cough*) they didn't get repetitive.
Reworded question: Do you think that for a shmup you can declare a game one of your favorites after the first level? I think you can (Cotton 100%) but I want to know your opinions.
Also, Topher, what do you want your play style to be in Wedge's RFGO game? If you don't answer I suppose I can send you another email but if you don't answer that I will take your Dreamcast hostage. And kill a puppy.
04/27/2008 16:42
I don't suppose a puppy picture could ever win the $25? Because this one deserves a hundred -- plus whores.

SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE
Oh, and was anyone ever able to see the entire ending to Mischief Makers? Try as I might, i was only able to collect enough of those things to make it halfway through.
04/27/2008 17:01
04/27/2008 17:01
04/27/2008 17:02
Example: Mega Man's acquisition of boss powers
04/27/2008 17:07
04/27/2008 17:19
Man, I remember first playing Mischief Makers renting it out when it first was released and being completely being blown away by it's awesome. Ikaruga, Silhouette Mirage, Gunstar Heroes, Sin & Punishment, Dynamite Headdy, even Wario World, all good times. I've never been disappointed by a game of theirs I've played, though I've only played a small sampling of their games.
So now, for my question: Since they're known in a way for their bosses, what's your favorite Treasure game boss? SM had some really good ones. I could pick several from there and still feel like I'm snubbing more.
Also, out of curiosity, how does the story differ between the original version of SM and the Working Designs (another company you need to do in the future) localization? I heard they cut it up a might bad, so I imported the original Japanese version, expecting a translation guide, though I never found one.
04/27/2008 17:19
(PS.: if you already seen this on last week's post, sorry for posting again, I just didn't know exactly where should I post this)
And about Treasure: Did you like the S&P (half-)translation on the VC? I mean, the text is still in Japanese, and I'm not a native english speaker, so I still don't understand everything on the cutscenes :\
04/27/2008 17:22
04/27/2008 17:40
04/27/2008 17:45
There, short and quick. No extra shit involved.
04/27/2008 17:46
04/27/2008 17:53
The sole reason I got the DS Bleach games were because it was made by treasure!
This is even before I knew the tv show!
04/27/2008 17:56
Also, what do you think their two Wii games are gonna be?
04/27/2008 17:58
04/27/2008 17:59
Also, did anyone else hate the level in Gunstar Heroes where you have to roll the dice and play a board game? It was so hard and repetitive, that's as far as I got. It was so bad but Capcom repeated Treasure's mistake in Devil May Cry 4
04/27/2008 18:00
04/27/2008 18:09
04/27/2008 18:16
Believe it. Actually they made more than one, there was M.C. Kids for the NES.
04/27/2008 18:22
04/27/2008 18:27
What are your thoughts on the rumored Radiant Silvergun/Ikaruga sequel?
P.S. I resently got my hands on Astro Boy: Omega Factor for GBA
04/27/2008 18:59
Also, I'm sure you will answer Ikaruga to the Radiant Silvergun or Ikaruga questions above, but if you havent explained why, could you??
04/27/2008 19:08
04/27/2008 19:11
04/27/2008 20:12
I find it ironic that the MC Kids game was made by Virgin Games.
@Topher
I don't need the $25, but could you send me a whore or two? kthnx.
04/27/2008 20:22
Not that great.
04/27/2008 20:29
Also, how do you feel about Gunstar Super Heroes vs the original?
04/27/2008 20:33
04/27/2008 20:43
Gunstar Future Heroes on GBA, while not as great as the original, is still pretty damn awesome. Red is hot.
P.S. Favourite weapon combo from Gunstars is double flame.
04/27/2008 20:45
Mine would have to be the L+R function on Contra 3, where you hold it in to stand in place and fire in any direction.
I'm guessing Topher's is the polarity function from RS/Ikaruga, but I'm pretty sure Chad might like mine.
*SHAKE SHAKE*
04/27/2008 21:12
Why?
04/27/2008 21:45
04/27/2008 21:46
every year millions and millions of chines people die every year because of exploading pizza rolls. The heat combind with the awesome sauce creates a neclear explosion capable of destroying the island of honalulu. Because you suport the growing popularity of these amazing little rolls by buying them up you are now considerd a communist trator and are going to be taken away from your friends and family. You can come quietly or by force.
also you can bring one teasure game with you what will it be THAT IS ALL!!1!
04/27/2008 21:51
04/27/2008 22:04
You probably have and just don't know it, but try Gunstar Heroes or Mischief Makers.
Speaking of which, how many people got all the stars to watch the full ending?
04/27/2008 22:13
Also, How the hell do you beat that level in Sin and Punishment where your flying towards your mutated friend behind the missile. Answer: Impossible.
but seriously, somebody HELP ME

04/28/2008 15:07
Hurry up, I'm not doing my english homework until you're done.
Yes, I'm too addicted, enlish homework is 0 dolphins, alright...

His name is Raz. Yes, THAT Raz. From Psychonauts.
You can see all the sickeningly-cute pics of Raz on my Flickr!
