RetroforceGO! recording episode 46 tonight: Metal Gear photo

As you can tell by the above image, Topher was not available to do the traditional Sunday afternoon RetroforceGO! post this week. He has Photoshop. I do not.

Not to worry. Once he gets done taming the unicorn he just purchased he will be back in time to record the show!

And speaking of the show, we have a little something extra special planned. For the first time ever, RetroforceGO! is teaming up with Podtoid for an all-Metal Gear spectacular! The RFGO! crew will be discussing the early Metal Gear games tonight (Metal Gear for the NES, Snake's Revenge, etc.) and later this week the Podtoid hooligans will be tackling the Metal Gear Solid series. But I’m not going to lie. The Solid games are some of my favorite of all time (Snake Eater!), so I will probably still mention them a couple times on tonight’s show. Just don’t tell Anthony. He said he would punch me in my “baby inserter” if I broke the rules.

Hit the comments and leave us some questions for the show. Remember, whoever asks the best question (or says I am ridiculously handsome the most) will win an amazing cash prize! SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!

Hhahaha, I love it Chad.

Anyway, the Metal Gear series is one of my favorites in gaming, I've spent a lot of time with Kojima's games.

Since this is about the first series, here comes a couple of questions:

1. Out of the two versions of the first Metal Gear, which one do you prefer? The NES or the MSX version?

2. It's been more than 20 years of MG, and they keep adding more story excellence in each game. But there is something else. Do you think the series is more well known because of the gameplay or more because of the story? Also, which one do you think it should develop more? The gameplay or the story? If there is anything else you could add to the series, what would it be?

Yeah, I thought more this time on the questions.

And Chad, thanks for passing by on the IRC channel, we love you!

Oooh, does that mean we're going to be getting Sterling on the Retroforce?

Right, question. Do you think the series would've had the success its had without introducing the Soliton Radar System in MGS1?

Also, don't forget the other acid!

Here's my question:
If snake was not a snake, what animal would he be?

I just had to break my exam season Dtoid embargo to comment on this one :D

First question: DO YOU FEEL ASLEEP!

Second: Anyone ever read the novels based on the original Metal Gear? They were awesome all over the place, but not exactly Tolstoy if you know what I mean.

Third: Least favorite of the old-school Metal Gear and why.

Fourth: Do you think that the whole stealth aspect worked well in the old Metal Gears, or do you think it could have been significantly improved?

Last thing: Chad, did I ever mention that you are unbearably, spectacularly, ridiculously, ludicrously, pants-wettingly handsome?

Because you are!

P.S. MONSTROUSLY handsome :D

Bonus points if you can guess how many times I played Metal Gear 1 and 2 based on my comment above (yeah, sorry, I fail)

Regardless, I'm looking forward to listening to the voices of distant internet people.

Did you find Big Boss to be a sympathetic character before playing Snake Eater?

We all know Kojima doesn't consider Snakes Revenge a real Metal Gear game, what is your opinion of the game?

Even though big boss was killed in Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, is there any chance they will bring him back to life in MGS4?

Would they include an old person love scene (mayonnaise optional) between Big Boss and Eva in which you'd have to balance the sixaxis precisely or Big Boss breaks a hip?

Which RFGO cast members is mostly to pull a Gray Fox like betrayal?

My Question: Is there anything that you think the old Metal Gear games did better than the Solid games (plot, gameplay, innovation, etc.) or are they now just obsolete compared to what we have today?

Concerning your discussion last week on soda and pop, the aluminum container that it comes in are commonly referred to as a "Soda Can". HOWEVER, some ear witnesses have confirmed that when the container is empty it is often referred to as a "Pop Can".

Why is this?

P.S. I want to play the first 3 Metal Gear Solid games before MGS4 comes out. If I substitute Twin Snakes for MGS1 will I get just as full of an experience?

Three questions:
- Which is your favorite and least favorite boss battle in Metal Gear?
- What did you think about Snake in BRAWL or ApeEscape?
- Did anyone of you play the fantastic GBC Metal Gear?

the first memory EVERY of a console game was Metal Gear when i was a little kid, and that game had me in a trance cause even as a small child it felt MORE epic than Mario ever was. so it has that happy place in my heart. but the thing that i loved about metal gear the most was the fact that NO other game felt like it, even as a little kid i knew that it was going to epic...

question! do you guys think without metal gear, that the stealth sort of game would even exist?

and a quick fyi, im slowly plotting on stealing Colette, just warning

How awesomely incredibly ahead of it's time was Solid Snake? It had a radar, 8 enemy sight directions, tapping on walls to distract guards, hiding under tables, it was functionally just about on the level of Metal Gear Solid!

Also, what about Ghost Babel? Did anyone play it?

Also, punching dogs.

Suggestion: Get Jim on to do his Solid Snake voice.
Questions:
1: Out of all the Metal Gear Mechs, which would you say was the most dangerous/which was hardest to beat?
2: What did the RetroForce Go crew think of Metal Gear's transition from the 2D 8bit-ish games, from the 3D MGS games? Best thing the series could have done, or any other opinions?

Hey guys, here's the haiku

Snake's my kind of guy.
He's great 8-bit, and next-gen.
He can DDDDRRRRRAAAAAIIIIINNNNNN my (milk)shake.

What are some of your favorite MG/MGS moments? Did you think the original, or the NES version was better? What do you prefer, MG or MGS?

Finally, Chad, I was looking through your played games and I saw GEARS OF WAR. I thought you guys didn't like shooters. I don't have a problem with them, but I was just wondering why it was on there.

Do you actually believe the Metal Gear series will indeed die with the forth? Or will it be unfortunately milked out to have Snake's Tennis 20X: Metal Gear RAY Edition? Because, as you know, they did state the third was the last game, and there'd be no more.

Or...

Do you think the Metal Gear Solid series will indeed make it to the 360 after hearing Kojima say he wasn't the most pleased because of the PS3 technicalities? Do you think the Xbox will be able to handle these technicalities easier/better?

Topher has awsum photoshopping skills, but I really believe that this week's graphic is the best one ever.

What other stealth games from ye olde retro days got it right? And for that matter, which ones got it wrong? I honestly can't think of too many, before the days of Metal Gear Solid. Alternatively, what makes for a good, or a bad, stealth game?

And now, dog pic:

After last weeks show, and listening to a few of the older ones out of the archives, I have have come to the conclusion that Chad Concelmo is some form of modern day Caligula. Only instead of brutally raping you then committing horrible acts upon your person in the name of Diana, he brutally rapes you then pulls out a dolphin plush toy, cuddles up, and discusses games with you all while serving you refreshing drinks. There is far less bloodshed in this act.

Anyways, I can't really say much on this topic since I only really played the Solid series of games with any form of success. The original Metal Gear frustrated the hell out of me, but I cannot remember why. I think I will have to go pick it up some day and give it a try.

Looking forward to hearing everything you guys have to say.

Also, I want more Jim Sterling Metal Gear Solid impressions.

ok i have not played all the metal gears. and the story is fuzzy in my head. but i have a question. if snake and brothers were cloned or something from big boss right? so they were not grown in test tubes/grown in a lab. so who was the mother who gave birth to all the snakes. who was the surrogate mother? who did they artificially inseminate with big boss's DNA.

DO you think the transition with "boss battles" being focused on overcoming a battle Raven,Sniper Wolf against overcoming a supernatural power pain, vampire guy affected the realism that supposedly came with the game?
(sp?)

I dunno if thats very clear but basicaly I wanna know if anyone else feels pissy about the fact that booses now had a sort of "super power" instead of just being badasses in battle, I mean psycho mantis was still cool he was kind of pyschiatric and stuff, but the vampire guy? c'mon.

Is the extras when buying MGS3:S worth the purchase after buying the bundle?
