As you can tell by the above image, Topher was not available to do the traditional Sunday afternoon RetroforceGO! post this week. He has Photoshop. I do not. Not to worry. Once he gets done taming the unicorn he just purchased he will be back in time to record the show! And speaking of the show, we have a little something extra special planned. For the first time ever, RetroforceGO! is teaming up with Podtoid for an all-Metal Gear spectacular! The RFGO! crew will be discussing the early Metal Gear games tonight (Metal Gear for the NES, Snake's Revenge, etc.) and later this week the Podtoid hooligans will be tackling the Metal Gear Solid series. But I’m not going to lie. The Solid games are some of my favorite of all time (Snake Eater!), so I will probably still mention them a couple times on tonight’s show. Just don’t tell Anthony. He said he would punch me in my “baby inserter” if I broke the rules. Hit the comments and leave us some questions for the show. Remember, whoever asks the best question (or says I am ridiculously handsome the most) will win an amazing cash prize! SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!

Who do you guys think is your favorite female MG Character in the series?
or do you guys just like a slab of Liquid Snakkkkeeeeeeeee
:P
Hhahaha, I love it Chad.
Anyway, the Metal Gear series is one of my favorites in gaming, I've spent a lot of time with Kojima's games.
Since this is about the first series, here comes a couple of questions:
1. Out of the two versions of the first Metal Gear, which one do you prefer? The NES or the MSX version?
2. It's been more than 20 years of MG, and they keep adding more story excellence in each game. But there is something else. Do you think the series is more well known because of the gameplay or more because of the story? Also, which one do you think it should develop more? The gameplay or the story? If there is anything else you could add to the series, what would it be?
Yeah, I thought more this time on the questions.
And Chad, thanks for passing by on the IRC channel, we love you!
Oooh, does that mean we're going to be getting Sterling on the Retroforce?
Right, question. Do you think the series would've had the success its had without introducing the Soliton Radar System in MGS1?
do you think metal gear should have its own kart racing title or even better SNAKE SPORTS!
Don't forget the acids! (I mean the Metal Gear Acids)
Also, don't forget the other acid!
Here's my question:
If snake was not a snake, what animal would he be?
I just had to break my exam season Dtoid embargo to comment on this one :D
First question: DO YOU FEEL ASLEEP!
Second: Anyone ever read the novels based on the original Metal Gear? They were awesome all over the place, but not exactly Tolstoy if you know what I mean.
Third: Least favorite of the old-school Metal Gear and why.
Fourth: Do you think that the whole stealth aspect worked well in the old Metal Gears, or do you think it could have been significantly improved?
Last thing: Chad, did I ever mention that you are unbearably, spectacularly, ridiculously, ludicrously, pants-wettingly handsome?
Because you are!
P.S. MONSTROUSLY handsome :D
I hear it's amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on Hara-kiri rock. I need scissors! 61!
Third question of mine should read "least favorite part of the old school Metal Gears and why"
Me am so smrt.
I <3 Metal Gear.
somebody needs to hatch a plan to keep anthony away from chads baby inserter.
Bonus points if you can guess how many times I played Metal Gear 1 and 2 based on my comment above (yeah, sorry, I fail)
Regardless, I'm looking forward to listening to the voices of distant internet people.
Did you find Big Boss to be a sympathetic character before playing Snake Eater?
We all know Kojima doesn't consider Snakes Revenge a real Metal Gear game, what is your opinion of the game?
Even though big boss was killed in Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, is there any chance they will bring him back to life in MGS4?
Would they include an old person love scene (mayonnaise optional) between Big Boss and Eva in which you'd have to balance the sixaxis precisely or Big Boss breaks a hip?
Which RFGO cast members is mostly to pull a Gray Fox like betrayal?
Retroforce,
Who would win in a fight, Solid Snake or a Dinosaur?
My Question: Is there anything that you think the old Metal Gear games did better than the Solid games (plot, gameplay, innovation, etc.) or are they now just obsolete compared to what we have today?
Can you understand what it's like to know that you're garbage since the day you were born?!
Concerning your discussion last week on soda and pop, the aluminum container that it comes in are commonly referred to as a "Soda Can". HOWEVER, some ear witnesses have confirmed that when the container is empty it is often referred to as a "Pop Can".
Why is this?
P.S. I want to play the first 3 Metal Gear Solid games before MGS4 comes out. If I substitute Twin Snakes for MGS1 will I get just as full of an experience?
Three questions:
- Which is your favorite and least favorite boss battle in Metal Gear?
- What did you think about Snake in BRAWL or ApeEscape?
- Did anyone of you play the fantastic GBC Metal Gear?
the first memory EVERY of a console game was Metal Gear when i was a little kid, and that game had me in a trance cause even as a small child it felt MORE epic than Mario ever was. so it has that happy place in my heart. but the thing that i loved about metal gear the most was the fact that NO other game felt like it, even as a little kid i knew that it was going to epic...
question! do you guys think without metal gear, that the stealth sort of game would even exist?
and a quick fyi, im slowly plotting on stealing Colette, just warning
How awesomely incredibly ahead of it's time was Solid Snake? It had a radar, 8 enemy sight directions, tapping on walls to distract guards, hiding under tables, it was functionally just about on the level of Metal Gear Solid!
Also, what about Ghost Babel? Did anyone play it?
Also, punching dogs.
I like Metal Gear Awesome
Suggestion: Get Jim on to do his Solid Snake voice.
Questions:
1: Out of all the Metal Gear Mechs, which would you say was the most dangerous/which was hardest to beat?
2: What did the RetroForce Go crew think of Metal Gear's transition from the 2D 8bit-ish games, from the 3D MGS games? Best thing the series could have done, or any other opinions?
Are any of you like me and find yourself liking Metal Gear games despite hating the stealth genre? They bore the hell out of me, but something Snake and company just gets me pumped up.
Redzie wins. Also ssssuper paint work you have there Chad.
;)

Get Jim sterling for this RFGO!
I owned/played the GBC metal gear and saddened that i sold it :(
and, THE TRUCK HAVE STARTED TO MOVE and btw
...contact missing our grey fox
Chad, if you could replace one character in each of the Metal Gear games with a dolphin, who would those characters be? And would you rather fingerbang them before or after they were replaced with a dolphin?
Hey guys, here's the haiku
Snake's my kind of guy.
He's great 8-bit, and next-gen.
He can DDDDRRRRRAAAAAIIIIINNNNNN my (milk)shake.
What are some of your favorite MG/MGS moments? Did you think the original, or the NES version was better? What do you prefer, MG or MGS?
Finally, Chad, I was looking through your played games and I saw GEARS OF WAR. I thought you guys didn't like shooters. I don't have a problem with them, but I was just wondering why it was on there.
Also, I can' wait for my Haiku's, for lack of a better term, theme song.
Do you actually believe the Metal Gear series will indeed die with the forth? Or will it be unfortunately milked out to have Snake's Tennis 20X: Metal Gear RAY Edition? Because, as you know, they did state the third was the last game, and there'd be no more.
Or...
Do you think the Metal Gear Solid series will indeed make it to the 360 after hearing Kojima say he wasn't the most pleased because of the PS3 technicalities? Do you think the Xbox will be able to handle these technicalities easier/better?
Topher has awsum photoshopping skills, but I really believe that this week's graphic is the best one ever.
What other stealth games from ye olde retro days got it right? And for that matter, which ones got it wrong? I honestly can't think of too many, before the days of Metal Gear Solid. Alternatively, what makes for a good, or a bad, stealth game?
And now, dog pic:
Is the opening theme to Metal Gear Solid 2 not one of the coolest pieces of music to grace a video game?
Could somebody from either podcast (or both, which would be super-sweet) sing the intro song to Snake Eater? ^_^
*looks at GDC banner*
I think you might have used the wrong skin when you made this post Chad. Wait, what am I thinking, Chad can't be wrong. Which means GDC is coming soon yay!
After last weeks show, and listening to a few of the older ones out of the archives, I have have come to the conclusion that Chad Concelmo is some form of modern day Caligula. Only instead of brutally raping you then committing horrible acts upon your person in the name of Diana, he brutally rapes you then pulls out a dolphin plush toy, cuddles up, and discusses games with you all while serving you refreshing drinks. There is far less bloodshed in this act.
Anyways, I can't really say much on this topic since I only really played the Solid series of games with any form of success. The original Metal Gear frustrated the hell out of me, but I cannot remember why. I think I will have to go pick it up some day and give it a try.
Looking forward to hearing everything you guys have to say.
One more question, was anyone else sort of overwhelmed by Snake's ludicrously large posterior in Brawl? (In other words, does any one else think Snake's got to much back?)
I fail at BBC code :(
Do you think that the transition between the original Metal Gear games to the Metal Gear Solid games a good one?
I have not played the Metal Gear games and I am wondering if I should go back and play these.
Also, I want more Jim Sterling Metal Gear Solid impressions.
The only games I own are Metal Gear Solid on the Game Boy Color and MGS2: Substance on PC :(
To clairfy, "The only Metal Gear games I own" etc.
Oh, and Brawl, naturally.
@redzie
HAHAHAHAHA AWESOME
ok i have not played all the metal gears. and the story is fuzzy in my head. but i have a question. if snake and brothers were cloned or something from big boss right? so they were not grown in test tubes/grown in a lab. so who was the mother who gave birth to all the snakes. who was the surrogate mother? who did they artificially inseminate with big boss's DNA.
Fairly important question here.
Who has the bigger wang: Big Boss or Solid Snake?
Chad that picture is adorable.
DO you think the transition with "boss battles" being focused on overcoming a battle Raven,Sniper Wolf against overcoming a supernatural power pain, vampire guy affected the realism that supposedly came with the game?
(sp?)
I dunno if thats very clear but basicaly I wanna know if anyone else feels pissy about the fact that booses now had a sort of "super power" instead of just being badasses in battle, I mean psycho mantis was still cool he was kind of pyschiatric and stuff, but the vampire guy? c'mon.
What would your FOXHOUND call name be?
!
This will be an interesting RetroforceGo!
Question! Well, two...
I understand there is a MGS bundle for PS2 out there, are the controls and graphics well-aged enough to play in todays gaming environment?
Is the extras when buying MGS3:S worth the purchase after buying the bundle?
Can we also get some love for METAL GEAR AWESOME
Have any of you guys played the Game Boy Color version of Metal Gear Solid? It's a great game with the old Metal Gear feel in a huge package. It had huge main game (at least 8-10 hours), VR Missions and Multiplayer.
This thread confirms what I always suspected...all guys are at least a little gay for Chad Concelmo. Lot of solid snakes in here, ifyaknowwhatImean.
Oh, and one more question.
How do you guys think that The Beauty and the Beast Unit will be used in MGS4?
Oh! Oh!
Any thoughts on tomorrows MGO launch?
Its not a retro question but, hey it can't be ignored!
Snake's revenge despite not being a "true" sequel was a really great game. And as far as I know Kojima also enjoyed it.
HK : I thought it was very faithful to the Metal Gear concept. I enjoyed it.
I didn't really like the first Metal Gear since I played it after Snake's Revenge and even at that time it felt a bit too primitive.
Now the question is : With the announcement made back in 2006 about a Metal Gear Solid movie or an adaptation of the MGS game. Do you think we'll see for the first time a good game to movie adaptation for once ?
Take in consideration the fact that Kojima will surely have alot of control in the realization/quality control.
At least I won't get bored.
I always kinda wondered- since Metal Gear on the NES was such an ahead-of-its-time game, why weren't there any games that borrowed its ideas? Or were there, and I just don't know about them? I don't remember any non-Metal Gear games using stealth elements until the PS1 era and stuff like Tenchu.
Second, have any of you guys played the GBA game "Konami Krazy Racers?" It's a Mario Kart clone, but with Konami characters... you can play as the cyborg ninja, Dracula, a Moai head from Gradius, Goemon, etc.
On a somewhat related note, there was also a fighting game with Snake in it before Smash Bros. Brawl, but it was never released in America... it's called "Dreammix TV world Fighters" and in addition to Snake and Bomberman it also features mothertruckin' OPTIMUS PRIME.
Question to Dyson - RE: Chad.
Do you think love can blossom on the battlefield?
Hi everyone! ^_^
My favourite Metal Gear moment is not actually in a Metal Gear game. It's when you are introduced to Metal Gear Mark 2 in Snatcher, with the metal gear music and the huge shadow! Did you know that the Rocket Knight you were talking about hangs out in the bar called Outer Heaven in Snatcher? He's also in a secret cutscene in the PS2 Contra.
Oh in the Gamecube remake of MGS1, Psycho Mantisstill reacts to savegames, for example if you have Super Mario Sunshine (blegh) save.
I've only managed to play the original MSX version of Metal Gear on the MGS3 extras, so I don't know if they changed anything, but I was blown away by how advanced the game was and how many of the mechanics that were in Metal Gear Solid were already in the original, even the nikita missiles.
oh and obligatory 'witty' picture taken off the web
Huggles!
"Snake's my kind of guy.
He's great 8-bit, and next-gen.
He can DDDDRRRRRAAAAAIIIIINNNNNN my (milk)shake."
that's not true, my milk shake is- wait...
Also I forgot to mention something. Topher said on a earlier episode (don't remember which one) that when a Live Arcade release sucked bad enough, he would review an older game that people might have missed that was good.
What happened to that?
First off OMG @ Redzie whahahahahahah that was hilarious!!!
I just wanted to say that the music and the story has always been the best part of the MGS series, I think that mgs is the most closed thing you get to a movie (not because of the long non playable movies inside the game, but just in general in turms of chars and story development.
Its the best told crazy video game story there is.
Can't wait to here it.
Go Dolphins!
@CypherVR
I'll be honest, I only ever played metal gear for a short time, and metal gear solid 1 for an even shorter time, can someone give me a quick summary of the game and maybe convince me why I should buy the box set?
Also, this is still my favorite image of all time:
1. NO, Reaprar, NO! Stop bringing it back! MY EYES! MY EYES! :O
2. @Redzie and trydizon,
Freakin' amazing!
3. Great comments and questions so far, guys. :)
In pseudo java because I'm lazy:
while (snake == awesome)
{
chadConcelmo = ridiculouslyHandsome
}
All right, here's a question for you guys, even though it involves solid more than the original metal gear games:
Do you think it is a good thing that alternate universe games were produced (Snake's Revenge, Ghost Babel and Ac!d) and do you think that these games are fun and enjoyable even though they are not canon?
Which version of Metal Gear did you play first?
(Solid related) WHom do you hate more: Raiden or Rose?
Would you want a picture of m,e cosplaying as Snake? I did it once, thought it wasn't that great, so I plan on making it better in the next month as I'm going to an anime convention and most are cosplaying as something. If you want a picture when I get it send me an email or something.
Also Chad, how on Earth do you get your face to look the same ALL OF THE TIME?
I Feel asleep.
Also, I have to say that Chad is FABULOUSLY AMAZINGLY handsome! And you now I always say that, outside the contest ;P
OK KIDS! How many bought ZOE for the MGS2 demo disk? (raises hand(s)) And, did you understand MGS2 near the end, or do you just say you did, and that it was awesome, when in reality, you were so confused you put a hamburger in a blender so you could drink it in the car while you drove to your buddies house to try to discuss it, when in the end, you both just got drunk!?
