Happy Friday, listeners. This week we finally recorded our Final Fantasy VII episode, as this season's final installment of our Retro Limbo series. It's a long show, and it's packed full of talk about stuff like:

  • Chad Concelmo: Ice cream burglar
  • Spoilarz
  • Materia: best system ever
  • Why people are still cosplaying Sephiroth
  • Spinoffs: The good, the bad, and the Dirge of Cerberus
If you subscribe to us on iTunes, you've already heard it. If not, you can do so here. We'll catch you again next week.

Awesome show. I still have my old PC version of the game where back then if you had the right sound card, you could play better sounds and music than the Playstation version. A small update for releasing it later, also a slightly better resolution but not by much as well. I think it was still midi but had a few more 'instruments'. I might have to reinstall it and play it again.

With the release of it on PSN and PSP I might just give my old PC copy away at this point though.

Love the music playing in the background, guys. I assume that's Topher mixing it in? Really adds to the nostalgia (even though I didn't play this till 2001...and hated it...)

I hope you do that again sometime. I love it.

The anime, Final Fantasy: Legend of the crystals, is actually a sequel to Final Fantasy 5!

@Phoenix Gamma: Thanks, glad you enjoyed. I'd do it more often if it wasn't such a huge pain in the ass, heh. I thought this episode deserved it though.

My team is either Cloud, Red XII, Barret or Cloud, Vincent, Barret. You can get Red XIII's 4th Limit break before you get to Nibelheim, and on my latest playthrough i did it, and he did 7860 damage and basically killed Lost Number in one go :D

Also you can go on a date with Barret, Tifa, Yuffie or Aeris, not just Aeris and Tifa

Thanks RFGO. I am downloading this as a PS1 original. The music in the background was a nice surprise.

Very cool show, especially for someone who never played the game. Most of the chatter I've heard about FF7 could be summed up as:
"OMG cloud is so cool"
"OMG sephiroth is so cool"
"OMG aeris dies"

Which really doesn't give me the reason WHY the game is good. This show finally gave me a sense of what made people so excited about it. :)

On the topic of remembering what you were doing in an RPG, this is one area where I've always had trouble. And then one day I stumbled upon the "TALK" function in Phantasy Star IV. Basically it makes your party talk to each other and discuss what they are doing, where they are going and what they just did. It's so freak'n useful, and I wish more games had that feature.
