RetroforceGO!: Episode 9, recording tonight photo

Remember that cool cousin you used to have? You know, the one that wrapped his Camaro around a telephone pole on New Years Day?  Remember, before the accident,  how he could always be found playing one of those old handheld football games; the ones with nothing but red LED lines as graphics?

Talking about those handhelds would be kind of fun, wouldn't it? Although, I'm not sure if the 'Force and I will stick to discussing ancient handhelds considering that the handheld market -- unlike your dead cousin -- has matured quite a bit since then.

So if you have any handheld shout-outs you'd like for us to tackle, just post 'em here and we'll cover what we can tonight. And don't forget, we'll be starting our weekly contest tonight! Be sure to download the episode tomorrow as fast as you can, so that you have a chance at winning some sexy* prizes.

[*Only the hosts are guaranteed to be sexy, prizes may vary.]

Anybody else remember Tiger's racing "games"? And the headaches they had afterwards from the Tiger Handheld's supersonic beeps of pain?

Just two requests:

1) Please avoid the cliche of talking ad infinatum about Tetris for Game Boy; I think everyone already knows.

2) Favorite cult classics? (i.e. stuff like Ninja Five-O for GBA)

Remember Rygar on the NES? <looks longingly upwards as flashback begins>

I played the tiger handheld 101 Dalmations game on the playground all of the time. If you kept ramming the jump button, the dalmations would fly, which was pretty sweet.

Qix on the Game Boy was pretty kickass. Why hasn't there been a remake of THAT?

Who else rocked the Game Gear? My friend had one, and we'd take it in turns playing that or Mega Drive depending on what we were playing (Sorry guys, Nintendo wasn't cool where I lived. Everyone had Sega's stuff). I remember Tail's Adventure on it, and that it was so fricking hard.

Almost forgot to mention that I have a fully functioning Game Gear.

I use it to crush rocks.

Donkey Kong on the Game & Watch. Never played anything else as much afterwards.

@Lowtax: Hey, we had Nintendo. It's just that no one owned one. I remember I had a Game Boy Micro as my first handheld (With Alleyway: hXc).

I still can't believe how many batteries the Game Gear took (And subsequently how quickly they died down).

What about the Sega Nomad? Such a cool concept but damn was it a battery hog. 6 AA's for 2 hours of gaming, and you couldn't even use rechargables.

Was that a Spaced reference, Burling? If so, well played.

So before all this game boy/game gear nonsense happened, (at least it was before for me), did anyon remember playing the tiger electronics handheld games? I think it may be the only "ninja gaiden" game that i played that was harder than the one for the NES...

P.S. In regards to last weeks' show, Topher, if you didn't know, there's an arcade cabinet restoration place/arcade store about 1.5 minutes from your place, attached to Cockeysville Cue Club. Ever been there? It's called like, "Pat's Place", or something like that. Ever been there?

The Game Gear fucking kicked ass! Not only were the graphics far superior to the crap Game Boy, but with the SMS adapter, you had the entire backlog of Master System games to go with you. And there were some seriously great games on it, too, like the original Sonic (yeah, I know... but it was good then), and Shinobi, and Aladdin (not as good as the Genesis version, but still decent)...

The only thing that sucked about the Game Gear was the battery life: the optional external battery pack looked like a giant dildo.

I never get home from work to input stuff for the podcasts, but I remember loving the cheapo Tiger handheld Shinobi game. I also had Mega Man 2 in that format. Much fun for a poor kid who didn't have a Game Boy.

I just started buying Game Gear stuff, one of those things I always wanted as a kid. And if you get the actual Game Gear battery pack it fits on the back and screws in, pretty comfortable actually.

TV tuner, Master System Add on thingy, screen enlarger, etc, top of the line tech for it's time, battery life and price killed it.

I not only had and enjoyed th Tiger handhelds, but I still have a couple of the arcade games pictured above. The green one is Frogger, and I had Donkey Kong as well in the same casing. Man...I forgot about those. Awesome.

I've been hosting a Devil's Crush Leaderboard over on the community blogs. The winner get 1000 free Wii points.

Because this game is really suited for handhelds, and it played on the TurboExpress, arguably one of the coolest handhelds ever, any chance of this contest getting mentioned?
