Toy Story was made by Disney Interactive, which had really awesome quality games back in the 16bit era (Pinocchio, Lion King, Mickey Mania).
Capcom published the game in Japan.

Also,

lol

Aslo,
play Ninja Gaiden for the Master System, it's really awesome, seriously. I played after the NES ones and I it's my favorite! :D
Specially that there a early version of the game that says Ninja Gayden on the first chapter screen. xD

Without looking, I'd wager the number for that achievement is 256, if it is indeed named for Topher. 8 bits, baby.

I don't think that particular Wonder Boy has actually been released before on Virtual Console. The whole Wonder Boy series is confusing as shit, due in no small part to Adventure Island spinning off from it and the crazy rights issue that let Hudson make its own versions of the games but with different characters since Sega owns the Wonder Boy name. I recommend checking out Virtual Console Reviews Archive, they really have their shit together on these things (not that you're not doing a good job, Chad :) .) Wikipedia would also be helpful.

@A New Challenger,
Yeah, thanks. :)
I was a slacker this week on Virtual Console. I immediately saw the name and thought it had already been released.
After the show I realized it was a new one ... oops. I fail! :D

Koko the gorilla called her kitten "all-ball".

When Colette described this week's Wii Ware game I was picturing a gorilla with a Wii-mote.

I wonder if Donkey Kong is offensive to Gorillas.

I just wanted to make a quick note. The term "2.5D" actually refers to creating the appearance of 3D using 2D graphics, rather than using 3D graphics in a 2D gameplay style. The term became pretty popular as a method of discerning between games that used 3D engines versus those that used sprite-based graphics to appear 3D, a la Wing Commander or the original Phantasy Star dungeons.

Anyway, here's a Wikipedia article that explains better than I can: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2.5-D.

I first saw 2.5-D in reference to Yoshi's Story.

From the Wikipedia article linked:

"The term is also used to describe 3D scenes built completely or partially from a composite of flat 2D images; and also where gameplay is restricted to a 2D plane while the display uses 3D graphics and 3D models."

Everyone's correct!

Upon further examination of the article in Wikipedia, it appears that 2.5D is ALSO used in reference to side scrollers that use 3D graphics in a 2D playing field. I had not heard the term used in such a way until I began listening to this podcast. Before then, I had only heard it used in games like the ones mentioned above and old-style FPS games that used sprites.

The article I linked mentions F-Zero and Out Run as two games that use the original definition. I believe the reason for the newer definition comes from the fact that there are very few instances where a device is not powerful enough to use a polygonal 3D engine anymore, and as a result, traditional sprite-based 3D "tricks" are no longer necessary.

So, I retract my original statement on the grounds that I was unaware that the term could be used in either fashion.

Toy Story was NOT made by capcom, it was Traveler's Tales who did that one.

Mickey Mania too.

Sorry guys, you can make all the "LOL FAGS GO TO HELL" jokes and then puss out like Jhonathan Ross all you bloody well right but I expect some sort of accurcy to the main meat of the 'cast.

@Conan-san,
You don't have to listen if you don't like it. We all make mistakes. :)

And I don't think I was "pussing out." I just felt awful that I might have offended someone with my sarcastic comment. Seriously, don't listen if you aren't happy with our podcast.

Listening now:

I TOTALLY forgot Capcom made the Willow game and Chad I LOVED IT. It's the ONLY licensed non-Disney game I've enjoyed.

Jeez, why don't studios ask Capcom to make licensed games now?

Of all to people on Dtoid, Chad should be the last person to call ANYBODY gay.

That said, awesomely awesome episode because Capcom is the best video game company ever. Konami, Nintendo, Valve, Square, whatever; they all bow at the foot of the almighty Capcom.

Just created an account after listening to this. I must say the breakdown of Colette's was great. Especially at the,"To smash things" bit. Good stuff. Willow! I thought I was the only person who ever played that game and loved it. Lacking in the peck department but nothing like turning into a jelly monster just to walk over a bunch of mouths...in the ground.

Ahhh, I love RFGO - even if I haven't played the game you focus on, there's something really rather nice about listening to group of folks who genuinely enjoy each others' company. A large retro-flavoured dollop of positivity for a grim week - cheers!
