Happy Friday, listeners! This week we talked about Mega Man 9 with Reverend Anthony, as well as lots of other topics that have nothing to do with anything. Here are some examples:
* Rev to the rescue
* In the Navy
* Helen Keller’s hair palace
* Jumping through boss doors
* Friends don’t let friends throw friends into spiked walls
* STFU, Roll
* Lists!
* Galaxy Man = Rip Taylor
* To DLC or not to DLC?
If you subscribed to us on iTunes, you’ve already heard all of this. If not, you can still check out the new episode right here, and we’ll see you again next week. Hopefully with Rip Taylor as the newest cast member.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
now to go finish playing MM9 for great justice! :3
I'm really happy about this episode!
Not that I am complaining! I am totally jazzed to be playing this, and not upset at the difficulty (at least not yet!).
I do have one question to other XBLA players out there. When you are playing, are you getting a very slight delay on your jumps and your mega blaster? I am noticing a split second delay when I am playing. This elay is not present when I play the original games. Is it just me? Is it just on the XBLA version? Am I high?
Are you playing them on the same TV? Because depending on your setup there might be a slight delay in refresh time on your TV.
Another great episode. I had no problem with that swinging and jumping into the gap part on Jewel Man's stage. The miniboss did give me some headaches, though.
BTW, where the hell would i post a question or talk about RetroforceGO! other than here? I can never find anything in the forums. Am I looking in the wrong place? Where do people ask listener questions, etc?
Thursday afternoon there's usually a preshow post on the front page. Here's yesterday's
As for the TV, on certain games like rhythm games or action games like Mega Man that rely heavily on timing it's a lot easier to notice a slight delay in the refresh rate on LCD screens (and possibly the other flat panel varieties, I'm uncertain.) Most rhythm games nowadays have a way to take this into account; there was an adjustment period though since CRTs don't have that problem.
And oh, yeah, Mega Man 9 Roxxors!
First off, Splash Woman got rule 34'd less...than...a week...after Capcom revealed her...
Second off, some fact correction:
Splash Woman ISN'T the first female boss in any Megaman game, only the first female Robot Master in the classic series. Leviathan from Megaman Zero, Atlas with the Model F, and Queenbee in Megaman ZX Advent. Female, and in games made before Megaman 9 At most, we can only say that Splash Woman was the first 8-bit female boss.
Third:
I know you guys don't accredit Megaman to be strong narratively, but you'd be surprised how deep the story goes through the first 5 Megaman X games(X6-X8 don't exist because they break the canon) and through the whole Megaman Zero Series. Megaman X has the underlined notion of free will(as reploids that cant handle their free will go berserk, or Maverick), which they started to expand upon in the PSP remake(where it is revealed that all the "bosses" decided of their own free will to side with Sigma). Megaman Zero turns to tackle segregation and bigotry due to a world energy crisis.
Fourth:
DISTINCT LACK OF "Pew Pew Pew" THIS EPISODE IS VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!
Fifth:
In regards to what Anthony said about Megaman and Roll acting "cold" towards the robot masters; remember, they are just robots incapable of free will or higher emotions(in the time line, X is the first with those capabilities). They wouldn't know any better due to how they are programmed. Also, Dr. Light isn't around to bring the small amount of human emotion to the scene(or as it's assumed he would).
Sixth:
Anthony, I think your my new Dtoid hero(plus you actually beat Megaman 9, and faster than I did on the first run). I promise I'll try to listen to more Podtoid.
Seventh:
To those who think Megaman went in the wrong direction:
Seriously, go play the Megaman Zero games, THEN try and say they took Megaman in the wrong direction. I will concede that the world never needed Battle Network/Star Force, and ZX was a bit of a step back narratively and in terms of gameplay(but ZXA more than makes up for ZX).
Lastly:
Thanks as always for answering mah question(and a second one).
Of course, nobody played MM8 for that long so I don't blame anyone for not knowing that :V
i agree megaman 9 is like playing mega man 2/3
good job capcom for making a old skool mega man game .
It was made by zircon, half of the hosting duo of the late VGDJ podcast (www.vgdj.net) and originally appeared in an episode. But he OK'd it for use here. ;-)
but w/e mega man 9 was fucking sweet, i'm just glad that none of the DLC is really anything i'd want
