Get DJ Max 2, it's got an English mode and is generally better than DJ Max one.

Good show. I'm not usually a fan of rhythm games, but oh man am I so totally gay for everything Rhythm Tengoku. I've already got all perfects in both games, and I plan on doing it again when the English version of Gold is released.

Awesome show. And awesome medley at the end. Speaking of which: Can someone tell me titles of the songs used in that medley? I haven't played that many rhythm games so I wasn't able to recognize every one of them.

The DDR simulator you mentioned was probably Stepmania. It's a freeware dance game emulator that supports custom made songs, you can get a ps2>usb converter and use a plastic dance mat with it on your computer or you can use arrow keys.

custom song database (also a flash DDR game that's awesome) http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/sims/

Ugh... tongues have been held long enough. I like the theme of this show but I really have to go off.

Also, yo! Stella, give me your addy. I have a spare copy of PIU Exceed on PSP I can ship you.

To the entire crew, DJ Max Portable 2 came out ages ago. DJ Max Fever is coming soon to US and includes over 100 songs spanning DJ Max 1&2. Soon after that, however, two NEW mixes of DJ Max will be hitting S Korea.

And now for the bad, and I'll probably come off as a prick but hey. You know, I'd be right there with you on the whole Guitar Freaks versus Guitar Hero. I'm ready to stand up and say "Yeah, Guitar Freaks was first, represent" and all that. But here's the deal, Konami. Can you REALLY blame Harmonix (no love for Frequency or Amplitude? The HELL man!) for the success of Guitar Hero? CAN YOU?!? After all, Konami's first reaction to Bemani importing by arcades were Cease & Desist letters. They FOUGHT DDR's popularity for the longest time. When they finally realized they couldn't do shit to stop it, they allowed DDR to survive before... FINALLY embracing it. Now look how they treated their DDR fanbase and LOOOOOOOOK how they treated the rest of their lineup. Would I love to see Bemani rule? Yes, but Konami is run by gross incompetance. And yes, you guys are out in California so you don't KNOW the pain this situation caused. I live in the midwest. I had to convince roadtrips to a shopping mall in Gurney Mills out of chattering teenage preppies to visit these machines in arcades. Road Trips two and a half hours long.... to play Beatmania and Dance Maniacs. Pump It Up I was introduced to just because my local arcade couldn't afford DDR (Ironically enough, I preferred it over DDR once I got used to it). Fact of the matter is, you can hate Guitar Hero all you want but if we waited for Konami to get off their asses for ANY of this stuff, we'd be looking at Guitar Freaks for PS5 and Xbox 1080. Konami's incompetitance in this regard is unknown to you, you guys are near decent arcades. But it stings for us in the midwest. Guitar Hero was a godsend because it did two things.

1. Taught developers that peripheral based gameplay beyond a Guncon was possible and financial redeemable.

2. Taught developers that rhythm games aren't just some quirky japanese thing.

Also, Topher, dude... speak into your mic or check your levels.

Long time listener, first time commenter, and I just have to say:

BEST EPISODE EVER!! lol. <3 Rhythm Games.

I've been playing DDR for about 7 years now, ITG and PIU for about 2-3, and all the other bemani and rhythm games off and on between that time frame. I'm from Toronto, Canada and the Toronto rhythm game scene is pretty lively and I think we have some of the best machines up here. Toronto represent.

There are about 5 ITG2 machines and I find it to be the rhythm game with the largest following up here, because it is awesome. The custom song (R21) scene is pretty lively up here too. (ITG2 Revision 21 and higher allows you to play songs made on StepMania at the arcade). One thing that ITG doesn't really have are Japanese songs since it's focused mainly on electronic music and also made in North America so I try to remedy that by making my own stepcharts to Japanese songs.

Also, we have 3 or so Pumps and a scattering of DDREX and SN/SN2 machines around. I don't really follow the other games as well as I should but, we used to have a Pop'n but I lost track of it. We have a IIDX distorted that my friend owns the scoreboard of. I'm not that good at IIDX at all. We have a PPP2 <3 that I play when I can. I'm not that big on the DMGF scene but last I heard, there were V3s somewhere local.

BTW, Playing PIU on the PSP is one of the most awkward things ever, especially freestyle.

I'd have to completely agree with the suck of American Versions. If they ever made GOOD North American songs, then I wouldn't complain but with DDR, they're just filler crap to try and suck in the local market. The real DDR gems are the MAXes, the PARANOiAs, and the like.

OMG STELLA BUST-A-GROOVE!!! (I'm still listening to the podcast and I just got to that point) They butchered some of Bust-A-Groove 2's songs. Well, both Shorty's songs from BAG 1 and 2 were butchered. And Kitty-N's BAG2 song was kinda butchered.

I'm not that big on console rhythm games other than Parappa and Um Jammer Lammy and the DJ MAX Portable series though I haven't played them in forever. Everything else was a new experience for me so thanks for all of that :D

And again...

BEST EPISODE EVERRRRR!!!

We are the same person. Time and time again when I listen to your rants I just sit there and nod. And nod and nod and nod. You never miss a beat. We are so much in agreement that it scares me. Down to the fact that you chose Muse and Knights of Cydonia as your intro song.

You rock, dude. You rock.
