Welcome to another Monday! I really don't have too much to say about this particular Monday. Aside from the usual stuff that happened during the weekend, this is a pretty standard Monday so far. So, yeah, it's pretty sunny here in San Francisco, at least by our standards. I gotta lot of sleep last night because I just went right to bed after recording the show. When I woke up today, I made some roasted chicken and edited the show, then I had some breakfast.
Wow, pretty boring, huh? Well, sometimes Dyson can't win them all, but at least your Monday can be a little more exciting than mine by listening to the new RFGO!
Highlights!
- Chad has something to say about last week
- Rev puts the lotion in the basket
- We get Chad into another laughing frenzy, the world rights itself
- Orcist, your roomie wants his money
Aaaaaaand there ya' go! That's about all I really have to say about this week's show. I'm still in the middle of my boring-ass Monday, but you guys can alleviate your boredom by
downloading the new, very long episode of
RFGO! Let us know what you think about it in the comments after you're finished, 'kay?

Anyway, out to the gym and listening to my Monday Retroforce ^_^
04/14/2008 17:05

04/14/2008 17:33
LOL!!!! Fucking sweet. I was only a Player, but I loved it. This is what happens when I wait until the very end to join a play, I guess, but oh well.
"The army of the enemy is stationed on the hill, and we've got to get them down there, and this is how we will..."
See? Now you totally have to let me join you guys for the EB episode, lmao.
04/14/2008 17:42
Can you sing your part from Pippin for the 50th RFGO show?...I'm pretty sure that will be epic!
And this RFGO was awesome! Listener questions episode = WIN!
04/14/2008 17:45

Double post because I suck.
04/14/2008 17:54
But then I woke up in the middle of the Knife/Fork discussion and not even 30 seconds later I hear 3 Awesomes and an "I'm oogling that right now" when Chad mentioned the retro picture of me.
Best F'n Way to wake up EVER!
Also, I totally can't wait to meet the RetroForce crew at PAX.

EB episode? Hell, I am going to petition to do a Pippin episode now! :) :) :)
04/14/2008 18:32
I am just really good at timing the pictures to get pictures of them when they are yawning. They are really sweet otherwise, and give hugs.

Difficulty levels are a way to make the game enjoyable to everybody that plays a game, and if you didn't enjoy SCDA (a game known for difficulty and stealth) on Normal, as a reviewer who is read by a lot of people, I believe you should have tried the game on a different difficulty to see how that effected your experience.
04/14/2008 19:05
I think as a reader of reviews, I like to assume the reviewer only played it extensively on normal, since that should be the intended, basic difficulty. However, if the reviewer wants to list difficulty as an issue, its kindness on the part of the reviewer to note that there's a difficulty setting.
04/14/2008 19:12
You're probably right 90% of the time with that assumption. Maybe reviewers need to be more clear how they play through the game because difficulty level can have a large impact on the overall experience.
04/14/2008 19:21
Halo playing shit. I love you guys.
04/14/2008 19:24
Chad, check out Death Note. I don't watch a lot of anime, but I caught word of this show and managed to catch it when the English dub started on Adult Swim back in October and it's riveting. It's about 2/3 of the way through now, so you'll have to get the DVDs (or not find it on the internet somewhere) to start from the beginning. Or you could read the manga since all of the volumes are out.
Long show is loooong.... but good.
04/14/2008 19:25
04/14/2008 19:27
04/14/2008 19:30
04/14/2008 19:40
"if I were forced to play the game on an easy difficulty and simply run around shooting everything that moved, it would have been a completely different experience and I would not have enjoyed the game nearly as much."
That's why SCDA sucked. As you say, the difficulty level is supposed to make the game enjoyable regardless of how good you are at the game -- if you suck or rule, the difficulty level should be right there with you. Splinter Cell, rather than making subtle changes through its difficulty levels (you're quieter on easy, louder on hard or something like that), just gives you guns and gadgets and tells you to go to town.
Normal was too short and unsatisfying because I had shock bullets and knockout rounds up the wazoo. I wasn't particularly great at the game, even with those added gadgets (which is why I didn't switch up to Hard), but they made the game a much speedier, simple, and kind of boring experience. The difficulty level wasn't with me in the way Alien Hominid's is -- it was somewhere else entirely, and to be forced to raise the difficulty level from Normal (a mode which, should by its definition, be enjoyable to all non-godlike or non-shitty gamers) to Hard just to get some enjoyment out of the game is a massive design flaw.
04/14/2008 19:46
04/14/2008 19:48
For cereal, buddy. Everybody loves you. You're getting a little razzed only because people are shocked that you're involved in a story that isn't all sunshine and lollipops. It was more unexpected. It just humanizes you (while bearing more than a small resemblence to American classics like A Separate Peace and British classics like Spaced).
Nobody really thinks that you're a bad person and nobody really thinks that you pushed your buddy out of a tree. So turn those emoti-frowns upside and get right back to the Chad we know and love.

Thanks for the reply.

I would have to say in terms of where the retro line lies, is that the PS1, N64 etc. generation is where the line is blurry. Some games in that era are retro but others are not. It's kind of the bridge, like how Beethoven is both a classical composer and romantic composer.
I can't believe I just used that analogy O_o
Also let me reiterate what Haxan said. I'm surprised people got upset/offended. Anyone that listens to the podcast on a regular basis or has met you would know that you would never mean to do anything ill-willed (at least intentionally).
It's all good Chad!
04/14/2008 21:14
Oh, and i just gotta say that if you consider FFVII to be retro, then you should probably be calling the PS1 retro. Considering the amount of rpgs, side scrollers and shmups that were on the ps1, i think it definitely fits into the Retro group...but thats just my opinion.
04/14/2008 21:49
"NAAN desu??" "Ja-pan!" Soo many breas puns :P
04/14/2008 22:09
Not sure if this'll get read, but what the hell. Colette; when you came in the guys were just finishing answering a question of mine, and even though Rev makes for one damn fine Colette, he still ain't you. So I was wondering if you'd like to toss out what your favorite part of doing RFGO! is here on the comments.
P.S. PAX will be the greatest orgy ever. Babies are going to get put into EVERYONE. :D

God DANMIT Dyson, I was in a hospital during the rape trap part. They almost sent me to the psych ward.

That's Optimistic Topher of Bizarro world that's playing Ikaruga with a 360 D-Pad! He likes it no matter what.
---
Please Don't Kick Me Off Your XBL Friends List! My 360 is in repairs and I haven't played Aegis Wing and Ikaruga with you yet!
My Gamer Tag: MocPac11 (it's Capcom spelled Backwards)

good show made better by my inclusion! YAY!
also I did try the demo of Ikaruga before I decided not to buy it just because my fail was sooooo much that I just passed on it. I just didn't have any focus on it at all. it was pretty though. Picked up Castlevania SotN instead just because its been so long since I played that and it was weird to me that I hadn't played it since.
04/15/2008 08:17
04/15/2008 10:13
Also Voices of a Distant Star, Paprika and Millennium Actress are all amazing!
Great show is great.
04/15/2008 14:41
I turned notifications off after I got a msg that blocked my ship and got me killed when i was just starting playing it.
Could you do a Dpad review of different 360 controllers? I think people like me would like that :).
Maybe Aborto uses Opera? When I use that browser it often freezes on blogs with lots of images and videos (like BHZ's blogs)
@Chad
I heard you put a bag over a kid's head and then pushed him to the mayan sacrifice pit in the name of the dolphins.
PAAAAAX!!!
:O:O:O:O:O:O:O:O:O:O:O:O:O:O I used to play Karaoke Revolution and Singstar all the time!!
But then Rock Band came out :P.
Chaaad don't die of laughter.
@Dyson
You rock!
Yeah, i read about that pregnant manlady yesterday.
Half of my gamerscore comes from 1 month where, on another forum where gamerscore started become something like "more gamerscore=more game knowledge", i tried to prove that gamerscore was easy to get.
My parents got me mousetrap like 4 times because i always lost pieces and it made everything unplayable.
In Mexico I had Saint Seiya, Escaflowne, Dragon Ball, Ranma, Sailor Moon, a Dragon Quest one, and probably something else I'm forgetting, for anime on TV while growing up :)
@Colette
You is missing :(
Oh nvm :P, hai.
@Rev
Nice Colette
Nice Chad also :P
04/15/2008 17:36
Takes a while to download here to the UK, but definitely worth the wait! Thanks Retroforce!

04/15/2008 20:00
Whoa the RFGO! crew has great taste in anime =) I have to agree with Rev Anthony's favorites, Paranoia Agent is my 2nd favorite anime of all time, and all of Satoshi Kon's works: Paprika Perfect Blue (A MUST WATCH), Millenium Actress. And Grave of the Fireflies could even make robots cry.
My favorite anime of all time is Trigun, not for artistical achievements but just because I loooove all the characters.
04/15/2008 20:26
now i just got to wait till the shithead i work for pays me so i can buy it.
