RetroforceGO! Episode 33: Konami, and the code that changed the 'verse photo

Hoo-boy, it looks like it's going to be another one of those weeks. Not only did I get in a fight with some uppity gorilla (whose ass we had to kick to get my f***ing arm back!), but I'm forced to drag my lazy, old, retro carcass into work on a holiday; and at NINE a.m., too. I swear, this whole working for a living because I like eating and paying rent and other things that help keep me alive nonsense, is getting old. Real old. But thankfully, getting old is something of value here at RFGO!, and I kinda think that's one of the reasons you folks tune in every week. Or maybe it's the free pancakes.

Highlights!

  • This podcast goes out to all the fine looking ladies
  • Goodwill is good, and there is a dead retro god beneath the store
  • "Throw-up on bread"
  • Run Atreyu, Run!!!!
  • The Week of Win is over
  • M$ is fired!
  • Rev is in da' club
  • We make a host contest, and you will determine the winner
  • Favorite Konami game? Too many to decide!
  • But Chad has made another top ten list :)
  • What the hell happened to Bayou Billy?
  • 2D siiiiiiiiiiiiiiide scroll!
  • I'm getting a tattoo, cereal
  • A wizard visits Colette
  • 'effin Dr. Yang
Now that's a lot of highlights, and a lot of highlights signifies an awesome show, does it not? I tend to think that all of our shows are awesome, but that's not surprising since I'm completely biased. You're more than welcome to take your own unbiased listen to this week's product right over here, and then let us know what you think. Mr. Destructoid has provided a handy feedback device located below this post for you to share your opinions on the show (or if you still want to send us more haiku, we wouldn't mind; they were awesome). Either way, enjoy your Monday and watch out for gorillas.

On your barely restrained tangent about Treasure, the only Konami released title that was developed by Treasure was actually Gradius V although there's no indication of this in the game itself. Actually, I think they get their due in the credits, but still. Treasure deserves more props than that, Konami. Seriously.

I'm addicted to Circle of the Moon right now. Of course, I'm playing it on a DS, and thus on a lit screen where you can see things. It's actually the first Symphony of the Night-style Castlevania I've played.

It's a test to see if you're all worthy of RFG!'s awesomeness and some of you=fail.

You must enter the Konami code to download the latest RetroForceGO!.

Or 'save as' this link.
Fixed RetroforceGO! 33 Link

For those lucky few who are are RetroforceGO! and can go fix this atros-ma-tory, deleting the extra / after http: will allow non-believers to use the download link on this week's episode.

Just a question for either the RFGO! guys or anyone else with the answer. What's the intro from? The "if this nation, or in fact the world, needed heroes" bit. I tried googling the phrases the but it didn't come up trumps.

I'm pretty sure I beat Contra without the code once. I'll have to do it again sometime, just to make sure. I love it because it's hard without being totally unfair (unlike Ninja Gaiden's goddamn respawns.) If you've played through it enough to memorize everything you can definitely beat it without the code. I believe in you, Dyson.

I like when you guys are talking about baby-killing, then someone says "if someone's tuning in half-way..."

Who tunes in halfway to a podcast?

Sorry I don't have anything interesting to say about the episode. Keep up the good work! This is probably my favourite podcast! And I listen to at least... three.

And luzer, grab the MP3s here: http://www.mercurytheatre.info/ (it is from War of the Worlds, as far as I can remember, and that site has it for free)

ARCTIC ADVENTURE. I had these NES cartridges when I was a kid that were pretty much the equivalent of modern day roms. One was called "75 in 1" and one was called "256 in 1". They had tons of great games on them, including Twin-Bee, Gradius, Pooyan, Arctic Adventure, and a million other bizarre asian NES games. Had some great times with that beauty

Never hang out here? How dare you Mr. Sharpless, I am offended.

Seriously, though, I just got home from work and saw all your comments about the issues you're having with the show, whether it be from the RFGO! page or from iTunes. Topher, Droobies and I stayed up last night making sure that all the links worked from three different computers. The reason we did this is because we've switched the way we store and deliver files. If anyone is still having an issue, sorry, I'm forwarding this entire thread to Niero and Tlack in hopes that this will be an isolated case.

And, yes, there is a Firefly reference in the title of the post. + 100 billion for getting it :)

And Bronx, your comment has so much irony, but your not sure why ... yet.

I just thought of something, Dyson. Do you think it's the apostrophe that's messing up the iTunes? I remember a few episodes ago something similar happening, and it had to do punctuation in the title.

Congrats to the midnight bomber which bombs at midnight! Err, Bronx Bomber. I hope someone out there will get that reference.

My question from the announcement post was an attempt to get you guys to talk about single vs. multiplayer in Konami games. It always seemed like they had great co-op play in numerous titles. I guess I was too vague in my attempt to be clever.

I bought myself another Genny today. Fourth one in my lifetime. Sad thing is, I think when I was young and they were liquidating the shit out of those consoles, I probably could have bought it for the same price NIB then as I paid for this one now (Gen2, $25).

You guys suck so badly for forgetting about the Suikoden series. All 5 games came to the US, and the prequel (to Suikoden 4) spin-off Tactics game. It's an amazing series.
Dyson's Avatar
Dyson at 01/21/2008 23:04
Droobs, you probably could ave gotten it even cheaper.

Dex, I got you message via Colette. You would be right in assuming that an apostrophe would fuck up iTunes, which is why the actual file name does not include one. (I learned from the NYE show.)

Niero is working on fixing all the problems that everybody is having with the show, at least all the problems we know about. Hopefully, it will be resolved soon and we can go back to our regular scheduled programming.

Dyson, it was a total impulse buy. I was on my lunch break frequenting the used game shop. Admittedly, I was merely looking for a memory card for my Dreamcast, but I've been keeping an eye on their console stock and they recently made some large acquisitions. I remembered that pile of kickass games I bought a few weeks ago and how they were just sitting there, nigh a console to thrust them upon and enjoy all their blast-processing goodness. I caved. I'm a weak man when it comes to cartridges, you of all people know this.
