RetroforceGO! Episode 28: Mega Man Anniversary

RetroforceGO! Episode 28: Mega Man Anniversary photo
     Pew pew pew!

Ladies and Retromen, once again I find myself confronted with the prospect of another Monday, a day that signifies the beginning of the long work week that a good portion of us must endure. Fortunately, to those lovers of Dtoid and retro, respectively, the great gray beast that is Monday is somewhat brightened by the shining light of a new RetroforceGO! episode.

Highlights!

  • PEW!PEW!PEW! (Of course)
  • The BEST WEEK EVAR!! :) returns
  • Chad almost adopts a dolphin
  • Topher's part-time Britishness offends his Irish ancestry
  • Oh Snap! Pokeman style
  • Arkadian Warriors: Not too shabby!
  • This is the Rev Rant that is going to get me sued
  • But since I always agree with Rev 100%, you bitches can go ahead and lawyer up
  • We <3 Mega Man
  • Chad sets off the Nerd Alert with his admission of Toy Man
  • Which only makes us love Chad even more

So it looks like today's show will be a good one, unlike this post, which was hastily written before I had to run out the door and go to work (late again FTW!). Regardless, the show was epic as always, and can be easily found right here.

Enjoy!

The headline for this post should read thusly: “Colette makes picture, hilarity and epic winning ensue”

Seriously, that picture is made of win, and I’ve never even played any of the Mega Man games. Also, screw njsykora; it would appear that he’s a Devils fan. LET’S GO RANGERS!

@Hamza: Also, win.

I¸’m iTunes-ing this now.

Hint for the RFGO listeners: After defeating Wo Man, you can use her Pearl Necklace weapon to easily dispose of my robot boss. Then use my Porpoise Cannon to destroy Pepsi Man in one hit. Finally, use the Pepsi's Caffeinator weapon to effortlessly take out Slurpee Man, earning you the Pancake Pounder. Even though it goes without saying, the Pancake Pounder makes quick work of Dr. Angry.

haha, I used to do the megaman boss sketches, I started when Megaman 3 came out and I kept doing the numbers ahead of the game. Megaman 4 was out so I did the roman numerals all the way up to like 11. One or two of the bosses I made were coincidentally bosses they created, so I flipped out when I saw the boss lists.

READY TO MONDAY NIGHT!

@Colette: The front page art is made of win.

@Toph's boss pic: LOL. "Try my product."

@Chizzo: Toy Man FTW. HUGZ! I remember Nintendo Power's "create-a-boss" section. I submitted "Spring Man." And then Mega Man 7 happened. I'm still waiting for my royalties.

"...We´re 8 bit. We´re 2D and HD..."

A single tear dropped from my left eye when I heard that. Beautiful, Topher.

I´ve played through all the classic and X games, and I gotta say the only real contribution from the last games was the Zero gameplay. He got so much better; simpler commands, longer combos and the use of a simple pew-pew-pew blaster :)

But then Axl appeared. Damn.

Thanks for this episode of RFGO, guys. Good Christmas gift for everyone. Merry early Christmas.

Ah Megaman, one of the gaming world's most beloved characters and veterans. You must not forget the veterans! THEY ARE VETERANS FOR A REASON!

As a side note, Final Fantasy is also on its 20th year. Here is an interesting write-up from Racketboy. Enjoy!

My 9 and 13 year old cousins love Mega Man, it all started with me buying them 8 and X4 on the PS1. I was proud when I found out they got both anniversary collections for the PS2 =).

@Colette
That image rules.

@Chad
I think you needed to bring the Pokemon Snap cartridge to Blockbuster or Toy's R Us to a print station. The game came with a coupon for a free print... I never used it =(.

Seriously this episode was awesome, from the beginning rant thing to the Revrant which was AMAZING. I mean yeah, he's essentially telling people to fuck off and die, but RevAnt, you are very awesome.

Also, Wind Waker fans unite! (That game was soooo great.)

You guys are so awesome ^_^

I should clarify that while I loved 2, 3 is my favorite (just barely). I think we should all get along and agree that Mega Man 2 and 3 are the best ones ever.

I agree Topher that an HD Mega Man 2 and/or 3 would be AMAZING! That's what I was saying by having Powered Up 2 and 3 come out. If they came out in true HD that would be incredible.

My fiancee is really glad you guys talked about the Mega Man to Mega Man X connection. That made his night (we listened to it together. I don't know why he doesn't just sign up for a DToid account. Goober).

hey, dr mexico should be forced to play megaman battle network, for being so freaking ignorant about megaman and the real flow of good ideas to the gaming ideas.

C'mon the megaman x saga is not that bad, X3 is really complete. X4 has a really good story, X5 is hard as hell, and X6 is kinda fuck you capcom hard!, but addictive. I haven't played the rest

Mario is just as whored out as megaman, but they're just as good games, they just took the franchise into different directions, not unlike the paper marios and the sports games ect. I really enjoyed the first battle network game because it was a well made, megaman themed, card type battle game with real time combat, which was new at the time. The zx series is a continuation of the zero series for the gba, which were incredible, old school, and fucking hard games. Also I remember figuring out the "megaman logic" boss beating order was part of the fun> for part one Bomb beats Rock, Rock beats scisor, scisors beat cable(elec), Elec beats fire?(this is true in EVERY megaman even new ones) fire beats ice< The pwered up was great, playing as gutsman and the gang is AWESOME. and the challenges are HARD, why cant this be on xboxlive with the custom level creation and all that. . . So sad.

You said in this podcast that right now the X series has more games than the original one, and that's not true. Actually, (not counting spin-offs, of course, because counting spin-offs Mega Man would have way more) the both of them have the same amount of games. Mega Man goes to 8, and X goes to X8 (the only bad game in that lot being X7).

So, what this really spells out is that they need to go out and make us a new series.

Great show guys. How about an episode on just classic Nintendo Power magazines. That would be cool. ALso, pardon me if this has ever been mentioned, but Chad, have you ever played classic Nintendo on consoleclassix.com ? They seem to have the legal loophole figured out.

Keep up the weekly shows!
