So, uh, listen to any good podcasts over the weekend? If the answer to that is yes, and it better be, then know now that this new episode of RFGO! is 99.9% Metroid free. You're welcome. This week's show can be summed up in three very simple, but important words: I. Got. Next.
Highlights!
- Women love men who wear Amaaazing ...
- We're Coletteless again :(
- Chad presents the Dolphometer! (Soooo awesome!)
- Any good math student should be able to tell you that you can't divide by zero
- Maybe Chad needs to play some Donkey Kong Jr. Math?
- Rev's new rant makes him my newest hero
- New RFGO! drinking game: Drink every time Topher mentions Rival Schools 2
- Do not plan to drive or accomplish anything important while playing
With that many highlights, what could possibly be left to listen to? A whole lot of awesomesauce, that's what. Check out the episode here, and make sure to post lots of wonderful pictures and comments below. We love the comments, especially ones that have contest answers in them.
And doesn't somebody owe me a kitten?

I'm sorry, I didn't like Advent Rising because it was terribly buggy and
frustratingly easy. I really really really wanted to like it, but...
@ Chad
Your avatar is so goddamn happy I can't imagine you ever being sad.

... the Slamometer is better than the Dolphmoter? Blasphemy!
@itemforty: Just wait until the second half. You'll drink yourself blind.
I am going to finish the broadcast at the hospital.
was anyone ever cursed with the sega genesis 3-button controller?
Yeah, nobody likes Advent Rising. I can't necessarily blame them, but I derive a hell of a lot of enjoyment out of it.
LAWL x athousand @ the "...Amazing" commercial. Glad I could provide a visual.
Also, the art is just better on 2D fighters. 3D used to be cool cause it was new and you were like "Hey, it's like real life!". But because of the saturation of 3D in so many games, it loses it's appeal. 2D is almost like playing your comic books/manga. Pixel art FTW.
And yes. Mortal Kombat sucks. :D
Another neat 3D-but-not-really fighter on the 'cast is Tech Romancer. Giant robots for the total win. The end boss is cheap as shit, though. There's an awesome story mode where each robot/pilot is basically the star of its own TV show, and the other robots fill roles as good/bad guys depending on which story you're playing through. And the stories branch depending on certain conditions of the fights. Most of the robots are "inspired" by popular mecha anime/manga series (and were all designed by the studio responsible for the original robot designs.) There's a lot here for mecha fans to love, and while I'm not at all a follower of mecha anime, giant robots fighting is cool, and the story mode is excellent.
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is fun, but it is incredibly busy and I cannot see through all the glitz and smoke and lasers. I just pick Venom and fly across the screen over and over.
Donkey Kong Jr. Math is actually somewhat fun in two player mode, but definitely not worth $5. If you have Animal Crossing on Gamecube it's unlockable, so try it on there.
One note pertaining to Episode 14.5 re: Keeping/losing powers in the next game in a series. Banjo-Tooie let you keep everything from Banjo-Kazooie, and added a lot of new stuff on top of that (mostly shooting different kinds of eggs, shooting them in first person, and shooting them in the air.) I appreciated that very much.
Finally, happy 8th birthday, Dreamcast.
Topher: I love Rival Schools 2. That super move where you combine all three students to kick some major ass is the best thing I've ever seen in a fighting game. So much fun.
Oh hell yes I will never ever manage to watch through that vid without getting goosebumps and this sick feeling of "oh my god". I honestly can't explain it, while I may have gotten a similar feeling in some other games / moments (and some music, heh) it sure doesn't happen again when I've watched the vid a couple of times, but this is every time. The crowd reaction probably has a lot to do with it, which on another is one of the major reasons I (while not even being a part of it in the slightest) love love that community. There's just no other community (FPS, RTS, etc) that is as cool.
I follow the CGS and out of all the games, the one that for me is miles above the others both as far as watching the actual game and also having the most interesting players playing it, is the one fighting game.
Just had to thank for another great show. Makes boring work feel less like boring work.
"You can't divide by zero."
"What are you talking about?"
"You fail."
Yeah, I liked Darkstalkers too.
You guys did a great show, with plenty of great moments that forced me to reminisce (the six-button Mega Drive controller, Killer Instinct, etc).
I thought a good topic to talk about regarding 2D fighters would be 'cheap moves'. I never liked it when E. Honda's Hundred Hand Slap in later versions of SF II was able to be moved, because you could corner an opponent and trap them there. People would try and give rules out where characters with cheap moves would not be allowed to be selected, but this obviously hampers what the game was supposed to be for gamers...
I also remembered Dragon (the game based on the Bruce Lee film where you could play as three characters), and Primal Rage (the one with the 'claymation' dinosaurs). Maybe you'd be able to talk about these in later shows.

But that was never that really big of a deal because you could always counter E. Honda's slap pretty easily. And projectile user could take him out. Chun Li has at least 2 options available to her. Maybe the only one that doesn't have options is Boxer and Zangief but they probably do.
Yeah, I agree with you on trying to get past that HHS that Honda uses.
I felt that Zangief had a big disadvantage against projectile users because he could only just jump the fireballs.
I suck at Street Fighter II but I still love it and watching pros play it is exciting.
i remember Killer Instict catridges, i think the reason becasuse there are so banged up is the fact that this game came in a bundle pack. i remember when i got my Snes it cames with Killer Istinct and the dreadfull Taz-mania, gladly i changed it for Super Street Fighter II.
and by the way, Cammy is awesome, if i have to choose a character of the 4 "new" that doesn´t cut the mustard is DeeJay, is just a simple process of Elimintation.
Cammy: Fast and Accurate
T.Hawk: Strong and not to slow
Fei long: Fast and tricky as fuck!
Deejay: Slow and Sloppy, the only quality is his uppercut, when you comboed
