Hey everybody, I want to apologize for putting this post up late today. I was up rather late last night feeding my Mogwai after midnight and, well, I'm pretty sure you can guess what happened after that. Since then, I have pretty much rectified the situation. Did you know that San Francisco has its own Gremlin removal service? Me niether. Must be because of all the strange shops in Chinatown and their questionable products. Regardless, enjoy the latest effort from the RFGO! crew and our meandering thoughts on all things retro. Highlights! - Topher is aggro, needs Slurpee badly
- .tiff has an Adventure Game gland?
- Vietnam and Muppets, I really can't say anymore
- Resident Evil 5: Duckburg. Scrooge vs. Zombies FTW!
- Earthbound's scratch 'n sniff stickers cause brain damage
Also, I want to say thanks to everyone for listening, and we hope that you guys don't get too mad at us this week. This week's show really is the longest show ever. Make sure to have something to eat handy before you check us out on the podcast page.

I wonder who I'll want to stab this week. I think Chad is the only one I haven't heard say something ignorant or wrong enough to drive me to bloodlust. But he's Chad, so I never could hate him anyways.
Been going through all the old ones, and you guys seem to be sorely lacking in diversity. Nobody that's played old PC or strategy games? Half of you use Macs?? Come on. You're like the Power Rangers with too many Red Rangers ;O.
And I sound like I'm complaining, but I just like to focus on the negative coz' I'm emo like that. Also because I played mostly the same games. I'm still gonna cut a bish for thinking Final Fantasy Adventure is a FF game (unless you were getting mixed up with FF: MQ, in which case, double cuttings).
Now that it's downloaded, time to find the contest at the end and fail! =D
Mavis Beacon was the first game I played for computer on my sweet Pentium II back in 1996.
Awww, no contest at the end. I have to save the meat to get me through the boredom of work tommorow =<
Hey Wedge, try listening to last weeks episode. You just may find that entire episode is about PC games.
And I was just passing the time with Ep 10! I think I'm gonna be up late because of this.
i wish there was an earthworm jim and boogerman team up.
@trydizon
They won't team up, they're rivals. Don't you remember ClayFighter 63 1/3? Oh, wait, nobody does? damn
Damn, I know 2 of the games but not the other 2.
Once you figure out what they have in common, then it becomes easy.
"I'm still gonna cut a bish for thinking Final Fantasy Adventure is a FF game"
Wow, and I thought I sucked at paying attention. Didn't we spend a good couple of minutes explaining that it wasn't a FF game? o_O
I did, and you guys only talk about Adventure games. Whars Star Control? Heroes of M'n'M? Commander Keen? And I never had an Amiga and I know thars a fuckton on that...
Also no, I don't think you did. Unless something distracted me at work and I didn't hear that. RABITES BISH!. I'm sad I let someone borrow my copy of that and never got it back.
Then again, I did the same thing to someone else with my CT cart.
Hey, just wondering what program Colette was using to play adventure games on her PSP. I need to get hooked up since I'm not a PC gamer.
Final Fantasy Adventure for the Game Boy was actually Secret of Mana 1, like we said in the show.
I remember Clayfighter...
Has anyone tried the Lolo homebrew, Challenging Lolo? I know, super creative name.
YES!
Just a few comments and things you may not have been aware of:
-Bionic Commando is available on the GBA in Capcom Classics Mini Mix, and there was a Game Boy Color sequel/remake put out by Nintendo.
-Blaster Master had a Game Boy sequel, Blaster Master Boy, and a Game Boy Color remake/sequel, Blaster Master: The Enemy Below.
-There's a Wii remake of Rygar- actually, I guess it's just a Wiimake of the PS2 one.
-River City Ransom got a decent remake on the GBA.
-Clayfighter 63 1/3 had a "Sculptor's Cut" exclusive Blockbuster rental version that added characters who were cut for time from the original release; sadly, I don't believe Hobo Cop was one of them.
-Kid Icarus is indeed not as great as everyone (myself included) remembers, but the underworld music kicks so much ass and the first level is pretty cool, and that's about as far as almost everyone got because falling to your death is so easy. That's probably why all the love, and the 8uuuuu etc. password let people feel badass by skipping to the end. The Game Boy sequel is a tad better because falling off the bottom of the screen and dying no longer happens.
-The DS zombie game is "Touch The Dead" and it's not related to House Of The Dead in any way, different developer, not published by SEGA.
I should mention that the Rygar Wiimake is in development, not out yet.
Also, the Space/King/Police Quest and Leisure Suit Larry games all have $20 collections out with all or nearly all of the games in each series.
Isn't there a crappy Blaster Master on the PS1? I swear I remember seeing it in used bins (along with that shitty Contra).
Also I had the GBC version of Bionic Commando. It was pretty sweet, but something was fubared with the cart, and it would always freeze are zone 7 or something =<
Also, I was talking about Episode 6. You mention FFA getting you into other FF games, and I hear nothing about it being Seiken Densetsu 1.
Speaking of those games, I had "Final Fantasy" Legend III for my GB, and the marketing ploy totally duped me back then. Even so, it was fun given the selection of RPGs for the system. I was playing it as the screen burnt out on my Game Boy after a decade of service.
Got it "repaired" at a Nintendo Service Center (prolly just a replacement, but nyah), so I still "have" the same Game Boy since I was 4. Mind you I have NOTHING left that runs on it anymore except Tetris, Link's Awakening, and a Game Genie I got on clearance from a Radio Shack.
Man I get sad when I think of all the old games I've foolishly let go...
Also, can't wait to listen to this episode at work tomorrow =D.
Wedge, go listen to our very first episode.
Then, please... let it go. We know.
Where's the sequel to this neglected franchise? C'mon Nintendo!
HAHAHA
So, Muppets in Vietnam...
Have you guys heard of Meet the Feebles, a film by Peter Jackson, the guy who directed Lord of the Rings? Its like this really twisted version of the Muppets where they take drugs, have sex and kill each other. It also includes a flashback to Vietnam! Even though the budget ran out, they wanted to make Muppets in Vietnam so bad, they made a fake film called Frogs of War and spliced it into Meet the Feebles. Enjoy!
I'm an idiot, I totally forgot this is 2007 and it is bound to be on YouTube. This is what thinking retro will get you.
Anyway, I'm at work and don't have Flash installed, but I'm pretty sure this is the right scene, so...
Muppets in Vietnam
I don't think Chad said "amazing" enough this week.
@Orange Goblin
Meet the Feebles is an amazing movie. The sodomy song is so great
@Tristero,
Um. How are you so awesome?
Wedge is super cool! :)
@entrager,
You're right. :)
@Chad
Don't let it happen again. I expect at least double the amount next week.
Orange Goblin, Tristero = awesome!
entrager: I agree. There was a definite lack of amaaaaazing this week.
A New Challenger:
-Blaster Master had a Game Boy sequel, Blaster Master Boy, and a Game Boy Color remake/sequel, Blaster Master: The Enemy Below.
ORLY? Wasn't aware of that. Were the any good?
-There's a Wii remake of Rygar- actually, I guess it's just a Wiimake of the PS2 one.
It'll probably suck, but we'll see. I just want a 2D remake :P
-River City Ransom got a decent remake on the GBA.
[/b]We know, Rev said it was ass.[/b]
-Clayfighter 63 1/3 had a "Sculptor's Cut" exclusive Blockbuster rental version that added characters who were cut for time from the original release; sadly, I don't believe Hobo Cop was one of them.
Chad?
-The DS zombie game is "Touch The Dead" and it's not related to House Of The Dead in any way, different developer, not published by SEGA.
Did not know!
By the way, nobody has won the contest yet. Was it too hard?
Rocket Knight, Sparkster... And, um.... Hrm.
STFU YOU, I'M TRYING TO GO THROUGH THE EPISODES D=. I went through 3 and 4 and 11 today. The new one is GREAT!
Also Wave Race 64 is the best. I remember when I was anxious on Christmas Eve's and I would just mess around in Dolphin Park practice mode (sometimes on the dolphin c.c) until I passed out. I was like, trying to "grind" the ramps, and do half barrel roll, double flip flatspins.
Mostly coz' like Chad said, the game had fucking awesome physics, better than the GC sequel even.
And the RCR for GBA wasn't "ass", it was just kind of more like a tech demo product. It had fun stuff like instigating massive AI battles and turning off gravity. Either way, we DESPERATELY need more Kunio styled games.
Also, you guys missed a wonderful franchise that needs a modern sequel...
WHERE IS MY FUCKING NEW PILOT WINGS?
Pilot Wings 64 was the shit, and it'd be perfect for a Wii sequel.
Okay, my stab at the contest:
Similarity one: It's all Tommy Tallarico music
Similarity two: On SNES and Genesis
Games: Earthworm Jim 1 & 2
Nobody will see this comment, but thanks Retroforce for wishing me a happy birthday after I added you on Myspace after listening to this show.
I know the first game in the contest, and I have some ideas for what they all might have in common based on that. Unfortunately I've never heard the other songs, so this will be a lot of guesswork.
Fucking got it.
All four games are by Treasure, and were released for the Genesis/Mega Drive.
Gunstar Heroes
Dynamite Headdy
McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure
Alien Soldier (haha, nice job trying to cut off the title at the end :) )
no one wants to make a reedition of Evo or Terranigma?
Terranigma has one of the best concepts, an had one of the greatest soundtracks in the snes. i think is quicly forgotten because is an action-rpg,so "true rpg fans", saw it more like a adventure stuff
Terranigma for realz. BRING BACK THE SOUL BLAZER SERIES.
YES!! A New Challenger has come through with the correct answers. Great job! Send us your contact info at retroforce@destructoid.com so that we can send you some moolah.
And happy birthday!
Okay, now no one email him and pretend to be me.
