Retailers list HD Mortal Kombat 'kollection' photo

With NetherRealm Studios dropping its new Mortal Kombat next year, now might be a good time to get players up to speed with the series. How does a Mortal Kombat Arcade Compilation disc sound?

CVG reports that online retailer ShopTo.net had listed (and then pulled) a listing for a Mortal Kombat Arcade Compilation (more like "Kompiliation," am I right!?) for the PlayStation 3. The disc was listed for an October 12 release, and said to feature high definition versions of Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat.

It's said that a second retailer also listed the title, although CVG makes no mention of which retailer it's referencing. If the disc does pan out, it's possible that it will be the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network versions that were (but are no longer) available when they were published by retailer. While a PlayStation 3 version was listed, it's likely a combo pack like this would hit Xbox 360, as well.

Would you purchase a disc like this? The retailer reportedly had the game listed at discount pricing (£19.99) -- does that make a difference?

Mortal Kombat HD Compilation incoming? [CVG]

I'd be okay with MK1 and happy with MK2, but every subsequent game included after that would make me want to buy the collection less.

Actually Mortal Kombat 1 & 2 (and even 3) were fighting games I actually played. I might buy this.

UMK3 is the only one you need. I already have that on Live, so I don't really care about this.

Mortal Kombat Trilogy essentially captures the best all of 3. I'd rather have that then independent versions of 1, 2, and U3....

From wiki: "MKT follows the same story of MK3 (and UMK3) but contains all characters and most of the stages from Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II, MK3, and UMK3."

Like I said: this is all you need.

@ Gerardo that means it would be the super censored SNES version if MK1. MK2 and 3 would be uncut.

It really depends on how good the games are ported. I will say that UMK3 is still damn popular among the hardcore crowd. Hell, the local community of fighting game fans here in Columbus have really taken to the game lately. They've been playing on MAME and arcade boards, but a good current generation port would be welcome.

I already have MK2, but if it's priced low enough I'll pick it up. Loves me some classic MK!

MK TRILOGY OR GTFO

Just kidding. That's awesome, but I'm pretty sure the collection was put together as an excuse to release UMK3. Nice!

Nah, can't really say I give a shit even though I like Mortal Kombat. If they want to sell the new game though this totally makes sense.

It should be a total compilation. 1, 2, 3, Ultimate, 4, and Trilogy. You can fit that on a Blu-ray. easy.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa. When, how, and, above all, WHY did 4 sneak in there? Let's get this straight: 4 is out of bounds, as are the other weakquels (see what I did thar?!) post-trilogy.

Maybe if the game can save Ermac, OG Sub Zero and Mileena, as well as providing a button config I'll be interested.

If it's spelled Mortal Kombat Arcade "Compilation" without a "K" upon release, I'm calling shenanigans!

I do love that the PS3 is becoming home to HD remakes of older games.

Hell no I wouldn't buy this.

Fighting games almost always eclipse each other with each incarnation. I mean, even though Tekken 3 was FRICKIN' AWESOME when it came out, the addition of many simple gameplay systems to recent iterations makes it feel absolutely antiquated by comparison.

For example, why in the hell would you EVER feel the need to play MK1 on a disk that contains MK2? And why the hell would you choose the play MK2 on a disk that has UMK?

It just doesn't make sense, even at a discount price.

A bit off topic, but....

A comp disc of Tekken 1-5 and Dark Resurrection. Include all the bonus modes and games.

No, I was never a huge fan of MK back in the day, never mind now.

@DinnertimeNinja

Not sure about that. I still feel Tekken 3 was the last good one (including Tekken Tag Tournament as it was a slightly upgraded 3)

I'm pretty sure MKII is still up on the PSN.

As for this, I'd pay maybe $20, but nothing more.

Screw UMK3, give us Mortal Kombat Trilogy!
(and yes, use the digitized actor footage rather than drawing new sprites or some bollocks)

There's also going to be a HD Rayman compilation for PS3.

This prediction is brought to you by SPRLDR, the guy who told you that Michel Ancel was working on a new Rayman game with a small studio days before the official announcement at E3. Perhaps some of you will actually believe me this time...

Yes. Yes I would. I'd love a good compilation of the original games. Hopefully it'll come out for 360 as well as PS3.

No, no and no. Who says that this is real and not a fake like the Battletoad for the Wii? I don't trust anyone but the company who made (holds the rights of) the game.

@DinnertimeNinja: Because MK2 is easily the superior game.

Regardless who cares, the point is to give people *options* to play what they like.

I too would like to see them put a fully remastered "arcade" rendition of MK Trilogy on the disc rather than UMK3. I really hope this pans out either way, and that it comes to the 360, too.

I was rather excited to know about this, until I get to the part where they say they're refilming all the stop-motion actors. That also means Kintaro is more than likely going to be all CG now.

All I want is a home port of Mortal Kombat II the Arcade, complete with all the original arcade sound effects/back ground songs, a VERY EASY CPU difficulty setting that STAYS easy the whole gametower through (if I want more of a challenge I'll bump the difficulty up myself, dammit), online play, and a nice code to have unlimited Fatality time because not everyone can remember those button combinations on a whim. I would spend $39.99 on JUST THAT and be happy as a lark.
