Retailer lists Pearl Jam: Rock Band, MTV Games responds photo

Remember that Pearl Jam "live" Rock Band project mentioned about a year ago? MTV Games and Harmonix have been relatively quiet on the Pearl Jam front, having only up until this point released the band's music as downloadable content for existing Rock Band products.

Now, a Swedish retailer Webhallen seems to think that there's a Pearl Jam: Rock Band in the works. They even have some (not really that) fancy box art to go along with its listing. When we reached out for comment, an MTV Spokesperson wouldn't confirm the listing as legit, however.

“We haven’t announced any products beyond Green Day: Rock Band and Rock Band 3," we were told. "We have a great relationship with Pearl Jam and hope to have more of their awesome music in the game in the future.”

Green Day: Rock Band ships on ships on June 8; Rock Band 3 is expected to be shown off at this year's E3, just a few weeks away.

[Thanks, Xzyliac!]

I'm gonna call shenanigans on this one, only because there's already so much Pearl Jam in the game already.

But stranger things have happened, I suppose.

Honestly, Ten is already available with some live tracks even. I can't think of any more Pearl Jam I would need for RockBand.

Actually no wait I can think of a few singles, but not enough to make a Pearl Jam RockBand without Ten.

OK I don't think Harmonix got the memo, that people don't want all these stupid band games. People keep saying Activision drove Guitar Hero into the ground. Well Harmonix is right there behind them, because they're about to drive RockBand into the ground as well.

Also, this: @PEICanada7: "OK I don't think Harmonix got the memo, that people don't want all these stupid band games. People keep saying Activision drove Guitar Hero into the ground. Well Harmonix is right there behind them"

I love how the Harmonixfags claimed Activision was the one milking a franchise to death, then low and behold Harmonix does the exact same shit. But the HMXFGS will still eat this shit up because they are sheep. SHEEPLE.

LoL i agree with chad. idk if pj has enough songs I'M interested in for their own game tho.

@ Danzflor  that is so ironic that u think that because like dlc, if u dont want it, dont buy it! dlc NeveR drops in price but music games on disc always drop within months after release. example gh5: http://www.amazon.com/Guitar-Stand-Alone-Software-Xbox-360/dp/B0028ZJ4O8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1273721113&sr=8-1

dlc is THE definition of milking money, u got it reversed brah.

Can I play Devil's advocate for a second?

First, I agree with you guys saying this should be DLC. However what is the difference between this and the disc add-INS of GTA and Borderlands assuming it's fully importable? Other than the obvious like it's only in disc form.

It is cheaper than it would be as DLC for the consumer and the filesizes have also been more managable.

I know I'll get shit for this because I'm the music game guy but I horstly want to know. Again, I agree it should be DLC but I'm having a hard time arguing it. Maybe saturation but that's it. And I don't think that's really as big a deal as we make it.

@Xzyliac: I don't think I fully follow your question regarding importing GTA/Borderlands DLC. But I will ask a question that has been botthering me for a long time.

GREEN RED BLUE BLUE YELLOW RED ORANGE BLUE RED RED YELLOWORANGE GREENORANGE GREEN RED BLUE BLUE YELLOW RED ORANGE BLUE RED RED YELLOWORANGE GREENORANGE GREEN RED BLUE BLUE YELLOW RED ORANGE BLUE RED RED YELLOWORANGE GREENORANGE GREEN RED BLUE BLUE YELLOW RED ORANGE BLUE RED RED YELLOWORANGE GREENORANGE!

Does this not bore you after a few playthroughs? I mean don't get me wrong, I bought GH1, GH2, GH80s, GH3, GH4, RB, RB2, GH5. But after a while I said to myself, "wait. what the fuck am I doing?" there are only so many ways for those little colors to fall and for me to hit them on-time to make an mp3 play properly.

Using the description above, lets apply it to, say, TETRIS: Colors falling, can only be so many combinations before it's all been done, right? WRONG! Tetris at least provides random, never-the-same possibilities.

And let's say that I want to apply the same theory to First Person Shooters. There are only so many ways Modern Warfare 2 can be played, new maps or not right?! WRONG! New Maps *DO* provide FRESHNESS in FPS games and are the bread-and-butter of FPS DLC. New maps breath new life into an aging game in both aesthetics and experiences(lol there's a dog house in one of the new maps).

Now then, why is it that what is in essence 'new maps' (thats what new songs are in RB, in theory) for a music genre game don't carry the same replay value that they do in ANY OTHER GENRE!? After all, you can just MUTE Rockband and play any MP3 you own instead of shelling out so much cash for what amounts to "different note-highways".

I have no fucking clue where I am going with this as I just sporadically pieced this question/argument together just now. However, the basis of the question is something that has been plaguing me for a long time now. Why is music-genre DLC so lacking in replayability in comparison to games that are not the exact same thing over and over? Please, flame on as I am sure I have left many holes in this, what is basically a Beta-Blog/reply/post.

Nice rant, but it doesn't change the fact that (for some of us) it's fun to play music I like by hitting colored orbs. I have no musical talent, so it's fun to get drunk and rock out.

Either way, nice try to make somebody feel bad for enjoying a game. Maybe it will work out better for you next time...

@nanowerx: Maybe you missed the part where I mentioned I bought and still own EIGHT different rhythm genre games across 4 developers. I have zero musical talent as well and that is precisely why I first bought them. That and to enjoy with friends. Then friends and I looked at each other and said "Wanna play RB/GH?" "Nah, it's just the same thing over and over"

Not trying to make anyone feel bad at all. (But nice try making me look like a purposeful troll. << Is what I would say if my post wasn't a rant and was a cohesive, concise argument/query, but since it isn't, I shall say this) As it was a rant, I can see where it might have come off that way, and that was not my intention at all.

@Xzyliac: That's because I don't understand what you are asking. Importing GTA/Borderlands DLC? Wut? I just download it and it plays. /DRUNKHULK

I (mistakenly, I guess) thought you were comparing RB DLC to GTA/Borderlands(any non rhythm game) DLC so I wanted to expand on that. My bad for reading fail.

@Rammstein: It's fun. Perhaps you're bored of the rhythm game genre. Play something else' yo. The songs aren't really supposed to be new and fresh. The replayability comes from how much you like the songs, I suppose.
What I'm saying here is that your question really makes no sense. (In the nicest way possible) If you look at it like that, in all games, we're pushing the same buttons over and over anyway, just in different sequence and in different timing. And sometimes in the same sequence.
Rammstein's Avatar - Comment posted on 05/12/2010 23:36

@smurfee mcgee: Right on and I do mention that in some of my examples(a headshot is a headshot is a headshot, no?) but I guess I am just befuddled at how the genre stays so popular because of the stale factor. I enjoy many, many genres of music and even if every one of my favorite artists got their own "Artist: RockBand" game I would say "Cool but *shrug*"

I think my whole issue is, I would love to see new features in the genre. 4v4 battles was awesome, hell even the GuitarHero "Mario Kart" power-ups mode was OK because it was *NEW*/FRESH.

That is not to say I wish that Citizen Kane would get remade to fit with today's culture in mind. I can (and do) most definitely appreciate a classic, whether it be The Bends or Wolfenstein 3D but can you imagine playing Wolf3D to THIS DAY just because it gets new maps?

No harm intended, just super-curios and don't know where to turn for answers regarding this.

This is why I come to Destructoid. 9/10 other discussion-based websites that I visit usually deteriorate into name-calling (and the boring kind, usually "fag" and "inbred" and the like). Legitimate, non-flaming discussion is a beautiful thing. Something many people (myself included) forget, how cool it is to be a decent human being and not to look for an ego boost by telling an avatar how worthless he is.

tl;dr - keep being awesome.

Really? Really? There is plenty of Pearl Jam in Rock Band to begin with, I just don't know what they could be selling with this version without including duplicate songs. Maybe this will be like the Country and Metal Track Packs, where they included new songs with old DLC ones, then eventually released the new songs as DLC too. It would make more sense than making you get certain big hits twice.

As much as I like Pearl Jam, I know I'd rather see Soundgarden Rock Band first. Honestly, I doubt either will happen, because clearly they don't have their priorities straight if the first two band-specific games they make are about The Beatles and Green Day, both of which I hate.
