Retail Natal design revealed at D8 conference? photo

At the Wall Street Journal's D8 conference this week, Microsoft brought along an Xbox 360 and Project Natal for a demo. Engadget was there to snap some pictures, and reckons that what we may be seeing is the final retail version to be revealed at E3 later this month.

The new white look is in stark contrast to the black unit revealed at E3 last year. It should be noted that Engadget says the unit on display was marked as a developer unit; this jives with muttering I've been hearing for months that the color of the unit had changed.

Microsoft is set to officially reveal the final Natal design (and software) at a press conference on June 13, two days prior to the start of E3.

God, I hope that isn't it. The Wii sensor bar at least pretends to blend with my TV. That is going to be mighty awkward.

I'd be more okay with it if it were curvier like the 360 is. It just looks like a block at this point.

Uhhh... I highly doubt that's the retail design of Project Natal. Doesn't look finished to me.

I didn’t know it was so thin, I’ve only seen pictures of it from the front and assumed it stretched out at the back....

I also thought it was going to be bigger. Looks cool to me.

It looks really, really old tech.

Hopefully that's not final.

I just want to know the official name, because seeing everyone say "Project Natal" 50 times in one article is getting kind of annoying.

MEH. It has a very awkward shape to it.

The kid in me must be almost completely dead. My first thought seeing the thing was "Great. One more thing to collect dust."

Mom? Mom, is that you? Get out of my head, mom!

That looks like one of the many third-party Wii sensor bars, i.e., one of the ugliest things I've ever seen.

Bet you $50 that the commercial makes it look adorable by having it "tilt its head" quizzically with the rumored actuator.

I would complain, but as of right now I'm probably not even buying one. >_>.

I hope that's not the final design, because its ugly. What happened to the nice looking silver one that they showed off at last years E3? It was way better looking than this thing. Of course back then it had its own dedicated processor, so once again Microsoft promises us the world at E3, but in the end, they only deliver on half of their promises. Like always!

I think the way it looks is the least of that thing's problems.

That has to be a prototype, the base is to big to sit on top of the average HD TV.

If it's not, it's one helluva ugly device.

This will look fabulous on top of my black LCD TV and my black tv stand, it'll accentuate that bright red ball that I need to kick on screen so well!

At least there's a REASON for the giant ball on top of the Move. What was wrong with the old Natal design?

Dude it looks like a white version of what we saw before. What's this huge difference that you speak of.

I think it just looks cheap. Like a kids toy! When they showed it for the fist time at last years E3, it looked way better being silver, and black. Personally, I don't like things to look like cheap white plastic crap, but maybe that's just me.

If white was so ugly why are so many people buying white iPods, xbox's, wii's, and DS's. I still don't get it. Looking at the comments you would think it looks like a big hairy crouch and smelled like fish or something. Ah haters got to hate I guess.

Meh, as a general rule I avoid getting things in white because the dirty easily. However I'm still amazed my co-worker has managed to keep his G1 clean dispite dealing with motor oil/engine grime all day.

That said, white and chrome is always what you see in vision of future households and world of tomorows. Apple ran with that white = futuristic notion for awhile.

How it looks is not what you should judge it on you fucks. I'm just glad that they seem to be doing it in both black and white.

@IonDan - what on earth do you do with your consoles to get them dirty?! The only bit of my 360 I touch is the eject button!

This view of it is only really the first one to show it in all its innocence rather than an orchestrated straight on zoomed in view, giving it that high-tech important look.
Am not sure where I'd put one anyway... centre speaker is in front of my TV :s

Pretty weird considering the only white 360s around anymore are those Arcade models. And nobody wants that.
