Resonance of Fate screenshots something something photo

tri-Ace and Sega's Resonance of Fate is scheduled for a Western release later this year, and it's a good ol' fashioned JRPG. You can tell it's a JRPG because it's called Resonance of Fate. Still doubt me? Just look at these new screenshots and you'll be left with little room for argument.

When it comes to tri-Ace, I am very skeptical. These guys have not produced much in the way of RPG greatness as far as I'm concerned, still clinging onto creative triumphs from years ago. Still, I'll always give a new IP a chance, so here's hoping that Resonance of Fate is at least ten times better than Infinite Undiscovery. The name is slightly more sensible at least!

Resonance of Fate is slated for Q3 of 2010 and will hit the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Wow, I never thought of palming someone else's face before. Innovative.

Agreed, Jim; I haven't played a good tri-Ace game since 1999. And if the characters in this one are anywhere near as immature and over-the-top as in the last Star Ocean, or the plot as preposterous, I will surely give Resonance of Fate a pass.

It's a fun enough game, if a little confusing. Of course, I only understood the bare minimum from the Japanese demo, so it might have been more clear otherwise...

Also? You guys -seriously- need to get rid of that goddamned full-screen, unskippable Legion ad. I even have No Script and Adblock on and it still shows up. It's ridiculous.

I don't think it will be nearly that bad. But, well, you can never tell. Since this is the team that made VP2, which wasn't too bad though Ch. 3 completely made me hate that game forever... 20+ hours and NO STORY...GAGH!!!

But again, that was with SE and trying to pull off mechanics from a game that released back on the PS1 and was even a darkhorse back then, they didn't have much of a shot. Hell, I heard that Tri-Ace really had no desire for another SO game after SO3. SE kinda pushed them on that one, or so I've heard. Probably wrong, but still, a new IP not being collaborated on with SE is probably a good thing.

I think you guys should give this game more of a chance. IGN and Eurogamer call it a unqiue combination of RTS and RPG elements and apaprently you're supposed to sync pressing your square button with your moves to pull off combos. I don't think JRPG and the Tri-Ace label is everything here, this could be something new.

Yes, it is coming out for the X360 as well.

I have hopes for this since SquareEnix isn't involved with this game(SEGA is publishing, not SquareEnix this time).

Asides, I had fun with the Japanese Demo.

WTF? They changed Reanbell's name to Leanne or something? What?
I'm looking forward to this, though. The Japanese demo was fun.

Eh, I'm still looking forward to it despite what others have said. Based on gameplay videos, it looks like a fun departure from the basic JRPG template I've seen so much as of late.

I played the Japanese demo. Best way to describe the gameplay - Jon Woo style interactive turn based strategy RPG. The battle system feels very similar to the Valkyrie Profile series. The demo was lots of fun and really looking forward to the international release.

I like what I've seen of this one so far- hope it can match the quality of the Valkyrie Profile games

I have played the Japanese demo of this game and the gameplay is pretty fun. When you do a normal attack of sorts your character goes all Matrix style in the air doing flips and unleashing bullet storms on the enemy or you can do ground variations of attacks. Some characters can change types of ammo they use, one can switch to different types of grenades or guns. I am not sure if they had any special attacks or anything of the sort, because I cannot read Japanese and just went through menus by accessing them at least 1 time each to see what was what. Some playing this might say that is a little repetitive the way you attack, but if you think of it like a normal attack +1 in an rpg it should calm those feelings. Lol. Overall the demo was pretty fun to play and I am a big skeptical when it comes to tri-Ace now days since they have produced anything solid since SO2.

I think I'm going to go check out that Japanese demo. As long as the gameplay is fun, I'll probably end up buying it at some point.

I grabbed the demo off the Japanese PSN store and I really liked it. I figured out the battle system and it is definitely different enough, plus the graphics were great and the art style was good too.

The battle music, however, is some of the worst I've EVER heard. Sounds like it came directly out of "Cruise'n USA" if you can remember that game. Just horribly out of place. Worth checking out tho.

Tri-Ace hasn't made a good game since Valkyrie Profile.

I can only hope this is better than Star Ocean 4 though....
